F Take into account the increased sensitivity to wind.
Cooling
Towing a trailer on a slope increases the
t emperature of the coolant.
As the fan is electrically controlled, its cooling
capacity is not dependent on the engine speed.

o lower the engine speed, reduce your
speed.
The maximum towable load on an incline
depends on the gradient and the exterior
temperature.
In all cases, keep a
check on the coolant
temperature.

f this warning lamp and the
STOP warning lamp come on,
stop the vehicle and switch off
the engine as soon as possible.
New vehicle
Do not tow a
trailer before having driven at
least 620
miles (1,000 kilometres).
Braking
Towing a trailer increases the braking distance.
T o avoid overheating of the brakes, the use of
engine braking is recommended.
Ty r e s
F Check the tyre pressures of the towing vehicle and of the trailer, observing the
recommended pressures.
Lighting
F Check the electrical lighting and signalling on the trailer and the headlamp beam height
of your vehicle.

Certain driving or manoeuvring aid
functions are automatically disabled if an
approved towing device is used.
Starting – Switching off
the engine
Ignition switch
1. Stop position.
2. Ignition on position.
3. Start position.
Avoid attaching heavy objects to the key
or the remote control, which would weigh
down on its blade in the ignition switch
and could cause a


malfunction.
Starting
With a manual gearbox, p lace the gear
selector in neutral then fully depress the clutch
pedal.
With an automatic gearbox , place the gear
selector at P or N then fully depress the brake
pedal.

The system recognises the starting code.
F Unlock the steering column by simultaneously turning the steering wheel and the key.
In some cases, you may have to apply
some force to turn the steering wheel (if
the wheels are on full lock against a
kerb,
for example).

hen the engine starts, release the key.
With Petrol engines , after a
cold start,
preheating the catalytic converter can
cause clearly-felt engine vibrations when
stationary, with the engine running, for
anything up to 2
minutes (accelerated idle
speed).
Electronic immobiliser
The original key contains a coded electronic
c hip. When the ignition is switched on, starting
is only possible if the code is detected and
recognised.
This anti-theft protection locks the engine
management system a
few moments after the
ignition is switched off and prevents starting of
the engine following a


break-in.
In the event of a
fault, you are
informed by the illumination of this
warning lamp, the emission of an
audible signal and the display of
a


message.
In this case, your vehicle will not start; contact
a
PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.
Switching off
F Immobilise the vehicle.
F T urn the key fully towards you to position

emove the key from the ignition switch.

o lock the steering column, turn the
steering until it locks.
Free-wheeling
For safety reasons, do not free-wheel.
Other wise, some vehicle functions will no
longer be active. To facilitate unlocking of the steering
column, the front wheels should be
straight before switching off the engine.
Switching off the engine leads to a
loss of
braking assistance.
Key left in
If the key has been left in the ignition
switch at position 2

(Ignition on)
, the
ignition will be switched off automatically
after one hour.
To switch the ignition back on, turn the key
to position 1

(Stop)
