NOTElWhen the ABS warning lamp/display or on-
ly ASC warning display illuminate, the
brake assist system in not functioning. [Ve- hicles equipped with Active Stability Con-
trol (ASC)]Emergency stop signal
system* E00626001190
This is a device that reduces the possibility ofrear end collisions by the rapid and automatic blinking of the hazard warning lamps to alert
vehicles approaching from behind during sudden braking. When the emergency stop
signal system operates, the hazard warning indication lamp in the instrument cluster
blinks rapidly at the same time.
CAUTIONl If the ABS warning or ASC warning is dis-
played, the emergency stop signal system may not operate.
Refer to “ABS warning lamp/display” on
page 6-49.
Refer to “ASC warning display” on page 6-53.NOTEl [Activating condition for the emergency stop
signal system]
It activates when all of the following condi-
tions are met.
• The vehicle speed is approximately
55 km/h (34 mph) or higher.
• The brake pedal has been depressed, and
the system judges that it was sudden brak- ing from the vehicle deceleration and theoperating condition of the anti-lock brake
system (ABS).
[Deactivating condition for the emergency
stop signal system]
It deactivates when one of the following conditions is met.
• The brake pedal is released.
• The hazard warning flasher switch is
pressed.
• The system judges that it was not sudden
braking from the vehicle deceleration and
the operating condition of the anti-lock
brake system (ABS).Anti-lock brake system
(ABS) E00607101046
The anti-lock brake system (ABS) helps pre-vent the wheels from locking up when brak-
ing. This helps maintain vehicle drivability and steering wheel handling.
Driving hints
l Always keep a safe distance from the ve-
hicle in front of you. Even if your vehi- cle is equipped with ABS, leave a great-
er braking distance when: • Driving on gravel or snow-covered
roads.
• Driving with tyre chains installed.
• Driving on uneven road surfaces.
l Operation of ABS is not restricted to sit-
uations where brakes are applied sud-
denly. This system may also prevent the
wheels from locking when you drive over manholes, steel roadwork plates, road markings, or any uneven road sur-
face.
l When the ABS is activated, you may
feel the brake pedal pulsation and the vi- brations of the vehicle body and steering
wheel. It may also feel as if the pedal re-
sists being pressed.
In this situation, simply hold the brake pedal down firmly. Do not
pump the brake, which will result in reduced braking performance.Emergency stop signal system*

in front runs in offset position from your
vehicle.
• When passing through an area where ob-
jects may contact the vehicle, such as
thick grass, tree branches, or a banner.
• When there are patterns on the road that
may be mistaken for a vehicle or a pedes- trian.
• When a vehicle cuts into your path in the
detecting range of the sensor.
• When an oncoming vehicle is positioned
straight ahead of your vehicle on a curvedroad.
CAUTION• When passing through a plastic curtain
etc.
• When the FCM detects a long object car-
ried on your vehicle, such as skies or a
roof carrier.
• When driving through fog, steam, smoke
or dust.
• When the windscreen of the sensor por-
tion is covered with dirt, water droplets,
snow and ice, etc.
l Turn off the system beforehand when the ve-
hicle is placed in any of the following situa-
tions as the system can operate unexpected- ly.
• When using an automatic car wash.
• When your vehicle’s wheels are driven by
the engine on a lift.
• When your vehicle is towed or your vehi-
cle tows another vehicle.

• When your vehicle is on a chassis dyna-
mometer or free rollers.
• When the tyre pressure is not correct.
• When installing the spare tyre for emer-
gency.
• When the snow traction device (tyre
chains) are attached.
• If the windscreen on or surrounding the
sensor is cracked or scratched.NOTEl A sound will be heard during the activation
of automatic braking, this is a function of the brake control and is not abnormal.FCM ON/OFF switch
E00635601394
This switch is used to turn on and off the
FCM and also to select your desired collision alarm timing.
When the switch is held pressed, the ON/OFF state of the FCM changes from ON
to OFF and vice versa. If you give the switch
a short press with the FCM in the ON state, you can change the collision alarm timing.

CAUTION•When the vehicle is moving in a place
where lane markings are interrupted, such
as a toll booth entrance and motorway junction.
• When running on a road portion with in-
completely removed old lane markings, shadows, lingering snow, truck-like pud-
dles mistakable for lane markings (espe- cially after the rain when road surface is reflecting light) or similar confusing fac-
tors.
• When running in a lane other than the
cruising lane and passing lane.
• When running beside a closed lane sec-
tion or in a provisional lane in a traffic work zone.
• When running in an extremely narrow
lane.
• When the following distance between
your vehicle and a vehicle in front be- comes extremely reduced (especially
when a marking is hidden by a vehicle in front this is running too close to the mark- ing).
• When entering a junction or other point of
road where lanes are laid out complicated-
ly.
• When passing a road section where the
number of lanes increases/decreases or multiple lanes are crossing each other.
• When the lane is marked by double or
otherwise special lines.

MITSUBISHI MOTORS GEN-
UINE parts when replacing the wind- screen wipers.Tyre pressure monitoring
system (TPMS)* E00637100279
The tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
uses tyre inflation pressure sensors (A) on the wheels to monitor the tyre inflation pressures.
The system only indicates when a tyre is sig-
nificantly under-inflated.
The base tyre pressure can be set at desired value by the driver with the reset function ex-
ecution. (The low pressure warning threshold is set based on the reset.)

NOTElThe sensors do not detect objects located in
the area directly below or near the bumper. If the height of an object is lower than the
mounted position of the corner or back sen-
sors, the sensors may not continue detecting it even if they detected it initially.
For information on how to change the detec-
tion areas, please refer to “Changing the de- tection areas” on page 6-80.
CAUTIONl The reversing sensor system may not operate
properly under the following conditions:
• The sensors or surroundings are covered
with ice, snow, or mud.
• The sensors are frozen.
• The system receives ultrasonic noise from
other sources (the horns of other vehicles, motorcycle engines, brakes, radios, pour-
ing rain, splashing water, tyre chains, etc.).
• The sensors are extremely hot or cold
(while the vehicle is parked for a long pe- riod of time under a blazing sun or in coldweather).
• The vehicle tilts significantly.
• The vehicle is driven on a rough road
(with a bumpy, gravel, hilly, or grassy surface).
• The vehicle is too close to an obstacle.CAUTION•The sensors or surroundings have been
wiped by hand, or stickers or accessorieshave been attached.
l The reversing sensor system may not proper-
ly detect the following:
• Objects that are thin, such as wire nets or
ropes.
• Objects that absorb sound waves, such as
snow.
• Objects that are shaped with a sharp an-
gle.
• Objects with a smooth surface, such as
glass.
• Objects that are low, such as kerbstones.NOTEl The buzzer may sound lower than the nor-
mal warning sound when the reversing sen-sor system is receiving ultrasonic noise from
other sources, but this is not a malfunction.
The buzzer will stop sounding and the sys- tem will return to normal operation after thenoise is no longer received. To operate
E00615700738
To operate the system, move the gearshift
lever or selector lever to the “R” position while the ignition switch or the operationmode is in ON. When the reversing sensor
system is operated, the reversing sensor sys-
tem operation indication lamp (A) will turn on. To stop the operation, push the “SO-
NAR” switch; the reversing sensor system operation indication lamp (A) is turned off.
NOTEl Only when the gearshift lever or selector
lever is in the “R” position, the reversing
sensor system can be operated or be stopped by using the “SONAR” switch.

Operation under adversedriving conditions E00801702531
On a flooded road
l Avoid flooded roads. Water could enter
the brake discs, resulting in temporarily ineffective brakes. In such cases, lightly
depress the brake pedal to see if the
brakes operate properly. If they do not,
lightly depress the pedal several times while driving in order to dry the brake
pads.
l When driving in rain or on a road with
many puddles a layer of water may form
between the tyres and the road surface.
This reduces a tyre’s frictional resistance on the road, resulting in loss of steering
stability and braking capability.
To cope with this, observe the following items:
(a)Drive your vehicle at slow
speed. (b)Do not drive on worn tyres. (c)Always maintain the specified tyre inflation pressures. On a snow-covered or frozen
road
l The use of snow tyres or tyre chains is
recommended for driving on snow and
ice.
Refer to the “Snow tyres” and “Tyre chains” sections.
l Avoid high-speed driving, sudden accel-
eration, sudden braking, and sharp turns.
l Depressing the brake pedal during travel
on snowy or icy roads may cause tyre
slippage and skidding. Tyres may slip if the ability of the tyres to grip the roadsurface lessens. This may make it more
difficult to stop the vehicle with normal
braking operations. For vehicles with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), firmly de-
press and hold down the brake pedal.
l Keep a larger distance than normal be-
tween your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you, and avoid sudden braking.
l Accumulation of ice on the braking sys-
tem can cause the wheels to lock. Pull away from a standstill slowly after con- firming safety around the vehicle.
CAUTIONl Do not press the accelerator pedal rapidly. If
the wheels break free of the ice, the vehicle
could suddenly start moving and possibly cause an accident.
On a bumpy or rutted road
l Drive as slow as possible when driving
on bumpy or rutted roads.
CAUTIONl The impact on tyres and/or wheels when
driving on a bumpy or rutted road can dam-
age the tyre and/or wheel.
Operation under adverse driving conditions
8-25OGAE18E1For emergencies8
CAUTIONlAvoid the combined use of different types of
tyres.
Using different types of tyres can affect ve-
hicle performance and safety.Snow tyres
E01002001852
The use of snow tyres is recommended for
driving on snow and ice. To preserve driving stability, mount snow tyres of the same size and tread pattern on all 4 wheels.
A snow tyre that is worn down more than
50% is no longer appropriate to use.
Snow tyres which do not meet specifications must not be used.
CAUTIONl Observe permissible maximum speed for
your snow tyres and the legal speed limit.
l As your vehicle is equipped with a tyre pres-
sure monitoring system, only MITSUBISHI
MOTORS genuine wheels should be used.
Use of another type of wheel risks air leaks and sensor damage, as it will not be possible
to install the tyre inflation pressure sensors
properly.
Refer to “Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)*” on page 6-71.NOTEl The laws and regulations concerning snow
tyres (driving speed, required use, type, etc.)
vary. Find out and follow the laws and regu- lations in the area you intend to drive.
l If flange nuts are used on your vehicle,
change to tapered nuts when steel wheels are used.Tyre chains
E01002103394
If tyre chains have to be used, ensure that
they are fitted only on the drive wheels
(front) in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
On 4WD vehicles in which the driving power
is distributed preferentially to the front wheels, ensure that the tyre chains are fitted on the front.
Use only tyre chains which are designed for use with the tyres mounted on the vehicle: use of the incorrect size or type of chain
could result in damage to the vehicle body.
Contact a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Author-
ized Service Point before putting on tyre chains. The max. chain height is as follows.
Tyre sizeWheel sizeMax. chain
height [mm]215/70R16
215/65R1616 x 6 1/2 J9 mmTyre sizeWheel sizeMax. chain
height [mm]215/60R1717 x 6 1/2 J225/55R1818x7 J
When driving with tyre chains on the tyres,
do not drive faster than 50 km/h (30 mph) .
When you reach roads that are not covered in snow, immediately remove the tyre chains.
CAUTIONl Practice fitting the chains before you need
them. Don’t expect help from other people
in the cold.
l Choose a clear straight stretch of road where
you can pull over and still be seen while you are fitting the chains.
l Do not fit chains before you need them. This
will wear out your tyres and the road sur- face.
l After driving around 100-300 metres, stop
and retighten the chains.
l Drive cautiously and do not exceed 50 km/h
(30 mph).
Remember that preventing accidents is not
the purpose of tyre chains.
l When tyre chains are installed, take care that
they do not damage the disc wheel or body.
Tyres
10-16OGAE18E1Maintenance10
CAUTIONlDo not install a tyre chain on an emergency
wheel which is compact in size. If one of thefront wheels has punctured, replace it withone of the rear wheels and install the tempo-
rary spare wheel in that place before fitting a
tyre chain.
l An aluminium wheel can be damaged by a
tyre chain while driving. When fitting a tyre
chain on an aluminium wheel, take care that any part of the chain and fitting cannot be
brought into contact with the wheel.
l Remove the wheel covers before installing a
tyre chain, otherwise they may be damaged
by the tyre chain. (See page 8-20.)
l When installing or removing the tyre chains,
take care that hands and other parts of your
body are not injured by the sharp edges of the vehicle body.NOTEl The laws and regulations concerning the use
of tyre chains vary. Always follow local laws and regulations.
In most countries, it is prohibited by law to
use tyre chains on roads without snow.Wiper blade rubber

Windscreen wiper blades
1. Lift the wiper arm off the windscreen.
2. Pull the wiper blade until its stopper (A)
disengages from the hook (B). Pull thewiper blade further to remove it.
NOTEl Do not let the wiper arm drop onto the wind-
screen. This could damage the glass.
3. Attach the retainers (C) to a new wiper
blade.
Refer to the illustration to ensure that the
retainers are correctly aligned as you at- tach them.
4. Insert the wiper blade into the arm, start-
ing with the opposite end of the blade from the stopper. Make sure the hook(B) is fitted correctly in the grooves in
the blade.
NOTEl If a retainer is not supplied with the new
wiper blade, use the retainer from the old
blade.
