ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
WARNING: Do not remove thecoolant reservoir cap when the coolingsystem is hot. Wait 10 minutes for thecooling system to cool down. Cover thecoolant reservoir cap with a thick cloth toprevent the possibility of scalding andslowly remove the cap. Failure to followthis instruction could result in personalinjury.
WARNING: Do not put coolant in thewindshield washer reservoir. If sprayed onthe windshield, coolant could make itdifficult to see through the windshield.
WARNING: To reduce the risk ofpersonal injury, make sure the engine iscool before unscrewing the coolantpressure relief cap. The cooling system isunder pressure. Steam and hot liquid cancome out forcefully when you loosen thecap slightly.
WARNING: Do not add coolantfurther than the MAX mark.
When the engine is cold, check theconcentration and level of the coolant at theintervals listed in the scheduled maintenanceinformation. See Scheduled Maintenance(page 552).
Note:Make sure that the coolant level isbetween the MIN and MAX marks on thecoolant reservoir.
Note: Coolant expands when it is hot. Thelevel may extend beyond the MAX mark.

4. Replace the coolant reservoir cap, turnit clockwise until you feel a strongresistance.
5. Check the coolant level in the coolantreservoir the next few times you driveyour vehicle. If necessary, add enoughprediluted engine coolant to bring thecoolant level to the correct level.
If you have to add more than 1.1 qt (1 L) ofengine coolant per month, have your vehiclechecked as soon as possible. Operating anengine with a low level of coolant can resultin engine overheating and possible enginedamage.
Note:If your vehicle has orange coolant,during normal vehicle operation, the coolantmay change color from orange to pink orlight red. As long as the coolant is clear anduncontaminated, this color change does notindicate the coolant has degraded nor doesit require the coolant to be drained, thesystem to be flushed, or the coolant to bereplaced.
In case of emergency, you can add a largeamount of water without engine coolant inorder to reach a vehicle service location. Inthis instance, qualified personnel:
1. Must drain the cooling system.
2. Chemically clean the coolant system.
3. Refill with engine coolant as soon aspossible.
Water alone, without engine coolant, cancause engine damage from corrosion,overheating or freezing.
Do not use the following as a coolantsubstitute:
•Alcohol.
•Methanol.
•Brine.
•Any coolant mixed with alcohol ormethanol antifreeze.
Alcohol and other liquids can cause enginedamage from overheating or freezing.
Do not add extra inhibitors or additives tothe coolant. These can be harmful andcompromise the corrosion protection of thecoolant.
Recycled Coolant
We do not recommend the use of recycledcoolant as an approved recycling process isnot yet available.
Dispose of used engine coolant in anappropriate manner. Follow yourcommunity's regulations and standards forrecycling and disposing of automotive fluids.
Severe Climates
If you drive in extremely cold climates:
•It may be necessary to increase thecoolant concentration above 50%.
•A coolant concentration of 60% providesimproved freeze point protection. Coolant concentrations above 60%decrease the overheat protectioncharacteristics of the coolant and maycause engine damage.

WASHER FLUID CHECK
WARNING: If you operate yourvehicle in temperatures below 41.0°F (5°C),use washer fluid with antifreeze protection.Failure to use washer fluid with antifreezeprotection in cold weather could result inimpaired windshield vision and increasethe risk of injury or accident.
Note:The front and rear washer systemsare supplied from the same reservoir.
Add fluid to fill the reservoir if the level is low.Only use a washer fluid that meets ourspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 422).
State or local regulations on volatile organiccompounds may restrict the use of methanol,a common windshield washer antifreezeadditive. Washer fluids containingnon-methanol antifreeze agents should beused only if they provide cold weatherprotection without damaging the vehicle’spaint finish, wiper blades or washer system.
FUEL FILTER
Your vehicle is equipped with a lifetime fuelfilter that is integrated with the fuel tank.Regular maintenance or replacement is notneeded.
CHANGING THE 12V BATTERY
WARNING: Batteries normallyproduce explosive gases which can causepersonal injury. Therefore, do not allowflames, sparks or lighted substances tocome near the battery. When working nearthe battery, always shield your face andprotect your eyes. Always provide correctventilation.
WARNING: When lifting aplastic-cased battery, excessive pressureon the end walls could cause acid to flowthrough the vent caps, resulting in personalinjury and damage to the vehicle or battery.Lift the battery with a battery carrier or withyour hands on opposite corners.
WARNING: Keep batteries out ofreach of children. Batteries contain sulfuricacid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes orclothing. Shield your eyes when workingnear the battery to protect against possiblesplashing of acid solution. In case of acidcontact with skin or eyes, flush immediatelywith water for a minimum of 15 minutes andget prompt medical attention. If acid isswallowed, call a physician immediately.
WARNING: Battery posts, terminalsand related accessories contain lead andlead compounds, chemicals known to theState of California to cause cancer andreproductive harm. Wash your hands afterhandling.

Vertical Aim Adjustment
1.Park your vehicle directly in front of a wallor screen on a level surface,approximately 25 ft (7.6 m) away.
2. Measure the height from the center ofyour headlamp (indicated by a dimple atthe center of the outboard projector lens)to the ground and mark an 8 ft (2.4 m)horizontal reference line on the verticalwall or screen at this height (a piece ofmasking tape works well).
Note:To see a clearer light pattern foradjusting, you may want to block the lightfrom one headlamp while adjusting theother.
3. Switch on the low beam headlamps toilluminate the wall or screen and openthe hood. Cover one of the headlampsso no light hits the wall.
4.For halogen or LED headlamps: On thewall or screen you will observe a lightpattern with a distinct horizontal edgetoward the right. If this edge is not at thehorizontal reference line, you will needto adjust the beam so the edge is at thesame height as the horizontal referenceline.
5. Locate the vertical adjuster on eachheadlamp. Use a #2 Phillips screwdriverto turn the adjuster eithercounterclockwise or clockwise in orderto adjust the vertical aim of theheadlamp.

6. Repeat Steps 3 through 7 to adjust theother headlamp.
7. Close the hood and turn off the lamps.
Horizontal Aim Adjustment
Horizontal aim is not required for this vehicleand is not adjustable.
CHANGING A BULB
WARNING: Bulbs can become hot.Let the bulb cool down before removingit. Failure to do so could result in personalinjury.
Note: Vehicles with LED headlamps do notcontain serviceable bulbs. See anauthorized dealer if they fail.
LED Lamps
These lamps operate at a high voltage. Contact an authorized dealer.
The following lamps are LED:
•Headlamp Low/high.
•Front parking lamps.
•Front side marker lamps.
•Daytime running lamps.
•Front direction indicators.
•Rear direction indicators.
•Brake and rear lamps.
•Reversing lamps.
•License plate lamps.
BULB SPECIFICATION CHART
Replacement bulbs are specified in the chartbelow. Headlamp bulbs must be marked withan authorized “D.O.T.” for North America andan “E” for Europe to ensure lampperformance, light brightness and patternand safe visibility. The correct bulbs will notdamage the lamp assembly or void the lampassembly warranty and will provide qualitybulb illumination time.

CHANGING THE ENGINE AIR
FILTER
WARNING: To reduce the risk ofvehicle damage and personal burn injuries,do not start your engine with the aircleaner removed and do not remove itwhile the engine is running.
Note: Failure to use the correct air filterelement may result in severe enginedamage. Resulting component damage maynot be covered by the vehicle Warranty.
When changing the air filter element, useonly the air filter element listed. SeeMotorcraft Parts (page 423).
Change the air filter element at the correctinterval. See Capacities and Specifications(page 422).
1. Release the two clamps that secure thecover to the air filter housing. Push theair filter cover toward the front of thevehicle and up slightly to release it.
2.Remove the air filter element from the airfilter housing.
3. Install the new air filter element.
4. Replace the air filter housing cover andsecure all the clamps. Be careful not tocrimp the filter element edges betweenthe air filter housing and cover andensure that you properly align the tabson the edge into the slots.
