6. When you finish refueling slightly raisethe fuel pump nozzle and slowly removeit.
7. Fully close the fuel filler door.
Do not attempt to start the engine if you havefilled the fuel tank with incorrect fuel.Incorrect fuel use could cause damage notcovered by the vehicle Warranty. Have yourvehicle immediately checked.
Refueling System Warning (If Equipped)
If the fuel tank filler valve does not fully close,a message may appear in the informationdisplay.
Message
Check Fuel Fill Inlet
If the message appears, do the following:
1.Stop your vehicle as soon as it is safe todo so and switch the engine off.
2. Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3. Apply the parking brake.
4. Fully open the fuel filler door.
5. Check the fuel tank filler valve for anydebris that may be restricting itsmovement.
6. Remove any debris from the fuel tankfiller valve.
7.Fully insert a fuel pump nozzle or the fuelfiller funnel provided with your vehicleinto the fuel filler pipe. See Fuel FillerFunnel Location (page 165). This actionshould dislodge any debris that may bepreventing the fuel tank filler valve fromfully closing.
8.Remove the fuel pump nozzle or fuel fillerfunnel from the fuel filler pipe.
9. Fully close the fuel filler door.
If this action corrects the problem themessage may not immediately reset. If themessage remains and a warning lampilluminates, have your vehicle checked assoon as possible.
FUEL CONSUMPTION
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank after running out of fuel. Included in theadvertised capacity is an empty reserve. Theempty reserve is an unspecified amount offuel that remains in the fuel tank when thefuel gauge indicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.

Following a Vehicle
WARNINGS
When following a vehicle, your vehicledoes not decelerate automatically to astop, nor does your vehicle alwaysdecelerate quickly enough to avoid a crashwithout driver intervention. Always apply thebrakes when necessary. Failing to do so mayresult in a crash, serious injury or death.
Adaptive cruise control only warns ofvehicles detected by the radar sensor.In some cases there may be no warning ora delayed warning. You should always applythe brakes when necessary. Failure to do somay result in a crash, serious injury or death.
Note:When you are following a vehicle andyou switch on a direction indicator, adaptivecruise control may provide a small temporaryacceleration to help you pass.
Note:The brakes may emit noise whenapplied by the system.
When a vehicle ahead of you enters thesame lane or a slower vehicle is ahead in thesame lane, the vehicle speed adjusts tomaintain a preset gap distance. A vehiclegraphic illuminates in the instrument cluster.
Your vehicle maintains a consistent gap fromthe vehicle ahead until:
•The vehicle in front of you accelerates toa speed above the set speed.
•The vehicle in front of you moves out ofthe lane you are in.
•Your vehicle speed falls below 12 mph(20 km/h).
•You set a new gap distance.
The system applies the brakes to slow yourvehicle to maintain a safe gap distance fromthe vehicle in front. The system only applieslimited braking. You can override the systemby applying the brakes.

When active, the system monitors youralertness level based upon your drivingbehavior in relation to the lane markings andother factors.
System Warnings

The warning system has two stages. First,the system issues a temporary warning thatyou need to take a rest. This message onlyappears for a short time. If the systemdetects further reduction in driving alertness,it may issue another warning that remains inthe information display for a longer time. Youcan press OK on the steering wheel controlto clear the warning.
System Display
When active, the system runs automaticallyin the background and only issues a warningif required. You can view the status at anytime using the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 109).
The alertness level is shown by six steps ina colored bar.
The current assessment of your alertness iswithin a typical range.
The current assessment of your alertnessindicates that you should rest as soon assafely possible.
The status bar travels from left to right as thecalculated alertness level decreases. As themeter approaches the rest icon, the colorturns from green to yellow to red.
The yellow position indicates the firstwarning is active and the red positionindicates the second warning is active.
Note:If you have recently received awarning, you should consider resting, evenif the current assessment is within the typicalrange.
Note:If the camera sensor cannot track theroad lane markings, or if your vehicle speeddrops below approximately 40 mph(64 km/h), the alertness level changes togrey for a short time and the informationdisplay informs you that the system isunavailable.
Resetting the System
You can reset the system by either:
•Switching the ignition off and on.
•Stopping the vehicle and then openingand closing the driver’s door.

Damage to the front end of the vehicle mayalter the radar sensor's coverage area. Thismay result in missed or false collisionwarnings. Have an authorized dealer checkyour radar sensor for proper coverage andoperation.

Lincoln Drive Control delivers the Lincolndriving experience through a suite ofsophisticated electronic vehicle systems.These systems continuously monitor yourdriving inputs and the road conditions tooptimize ride comfort, steering, handling,powertrain response and sound. You canpreset your preferences for these systemswithin the information display. Lincoln DriveControl will respond to your preferencesbased on what gear position you select. Thisprovides a single location to control multiplesystems performance settings.
Lincoln Drive Control consists of thefollowing systems:
•Continuously controlled dampingdynamically adjusts the shock absorbersstiffness in real time to match the roadsurface and driver inputs. This systemcontinuously monitors your vehicle’smotion (roll, pitch, bounce), suspensionposition, load, speed, road conditions,and steering to adjust the suspensiondamping for optimal vehicle control.
•Electronically power-assisted steeringadjusts steering effort and feel based onyour vehicle speed and your inputs.
•Active noise control utilizes your vehicleelectronics to enhance the acousticexperience.
•Electronic stability control and tractioncontrol maintain your vehicle control inadverse conditions or high performancedriving.

Using Lincoln Drive Control
You can configure which of the Drive Controlmodes are active when your vehicle is indrive (D) or in sport (S). The configurationremains active until modified from the mainmenu on the information display.

FUSE SPECIFICATION CHART
Pre-Fuse Box
The pre-fuse box is in the enginecompartment attached to the positive batterypost. This box contains several high currentfuses. If you need to replace one of thesehigh current fuses, see an authorized dealer.
Power Distribution Box
WARNINGS
Always disconnect the battery beforeservicing high current fuses.
To reduce risk of electrical shock,always replace the cover to the powerdistribution box before reconnecting thebattery or refilling fluid reservoirs.
The power distribution box is in the enginecompartment. It has high-current fuses thatprotect your vehicle's main electrical systemsfrom overloads.
You will need to reset some features if youdisconnect and reconnect the battery. SeeChanging the 12V Battery (page 296).
Lift the release lever at the rear of the coverto remove it.

Adding Engine Oil
WARNINGS
Do not add engine oil when the engineis hot. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in personal injury.
Do not remove the filler cap when theengine is running.
Do not use supplemental engine oil additivesbecause they are unnecessary and couldlead to engine damage that may not becovered by the vehicle Warranty.
Only use oils certified for gasoline enginesby the American Petroleum Institute (API). An oil with this trademark symbol conformsto the current engine and emission systemprotection standards and fuel economyrequirements of the International LubricantsSpecification Advisory Committee (ILSAC).
To top up the engine oil level do thefollowing:
1. Clean the area surrounding the engineoil filler cap before you remove it.
2. Remove the engine oil filler cap. SeeUnder Hood Overview (page 287). Turnit counterclockwise and remove it.
3. Add engine oil that meets Fordspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 350). See Capacitiesand Specifications (page 356). You mayhave to use a funnel to pour the engineoil into the opening.
4. Recheck the oil level.
5. If the oil level is correct, replace thedipstick and make sure it is fully seated.
6. Replace the engine oil filler cap. Turn itclockwise until you feel a strongresistance.
Note: Do not add oil further than themaximum mark. Oil levels above themaximum mark may cause engine damage.
Note:Make sure you install the oil filler capcorrectly.
Note:Soak up any spillage with anabsorbent cloth immediately.

ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
Checking the Engine Coolant
WARNINGS
Do not add engine coolant when theengine is hot. Steam and scaldingliquids released from a hot cooling systemcan burn you badly. Also, you can be burnedif you spill coolant on hot engine parts.
Do not put engine coolant in thewindshield washer fluid container. Ifsprayed on the windshield, engine coolantcould make it difficult to see through thewindshield.
WARNINGS
To reduce the risk of personal injury,make sure the engine is cool beforeunscrewing the coolant pressure relief cap.The cooling system is under pressure; steamand hot liquid can come out forcefully whenthe cap is loosened slightly.
Do not add coolant further than theMAX mark.
Note:Automotive fluids are notinterchangeable. Do not use engine coolantor windshield washer fluid outside of itsspecified function and vehicle location.
Note:Do not use stop leak pellets, coolingsystem sealants, or additives as they cancause damage to the engine cooling orheating systems. This damage would not becovered under your vehicle’s warranty.
