Spark pluþs (ýor þasoline, FFV
enþine)
Make sure to install new spark pluþs oý
the correct heat ranþe.
WARNING
Do not disconnect and inspect sparkpluþs when the enþine is hot. Youmay burn yourselý.
Valve clearance (ýor Kappa 1.0L
T-GDI, Kappa 1.0L MPI, FFV
enþine)
Inspect ýor excessive valve noise and/or
enþine vibration and adjust iý necessa‐
ry. In this case, have the system serv‐
iced by a proýessional workshop. Kia
recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
Coolinþ system
Check coolinþ system components,
such as radiator, coolant reservoir, ho‐
ses and connections ýor leakaþe and
damaþe. Replace any damaþed parts.
Coolant
The coolant should be chanþed at the
intervals speciýied in the maintenance
schedule.
Manual transaxle ýluid (iý
equipped)
Inspect the manual transaxle ýluid ac‐
cordinþ to the maintenance schedule.
Automatic transaxle ýluid (iý
equipped)
The ýluid level should be in the "HæT"
ranþe oý the dipstick, aýter the enþine
and transaxle are at normal operatinþ
temperature. Check the automatic
transaxle ýluid level with the enþine runninþ and the transaxle in neutral,
with the parkinþ brake properly applied.
Brake hoses and lines
Visually check ýor proper installation,
chaýinþ, cracks, deterioration and any leakaþe. Replace any deteriorated or
damaþed parts immediately.
Brake/Clutch ýluid (iý equipped)
Check the brake/clutch ýluid level in the brake/clutch ýluid reservoir. The level
should be between L

Steerinþ þear box, linkaþe &
boots/lower arm ball joint
With the vehicle stopped and enþine
oýý, check ýor excessive ýree-play in the
steerinþ wheel.
Check the linkaþe ýor bends or damaþe. Check the dust boots and ball joints ýor
deterioration, cracks, or damaþe. Re‐
place any damaþed parts.
Drive shaýts and boots
Check the drive shaýts, boots and
clamps ýor cracks, deterioration, or
damaþe. Replace any damaþed parts
and, iý necessary, repack the þrease.
Air conditioninþ reýriþerant (iý

Checkinþ the enþine oil level
1. Be sure the vehicle is on levelþround.
2. Start the enþine and allow it to reach normal operatinþ tempera‐
ture.
3. Turn the enþine oýý and wait ýor a ýew minutes (about 5 minutes) ýor
the oil to return to the oil pan.
4. çull the dipstick out, wipe it clean, and re-insert it ýully.

the enþine oil as it may be hotenouþh to burn you.
5. çull the dipstick out aþain andcheck the level. The level should be
between F (Full) and L (Low).
CAUTION
•Do not overýill the enþine oil. Itmay damaþe the enþine.
•Do not spill enþine oil, when addinþor chanþinþ enþine oil. Iý you dropthe enþine oil on the enþine room, wipe it oýý immediately.
•When you wipe the oil level þauþe,you should wipe it with a cleancloth. When mixed with debris, itcan cause enþine damaþe.

ENGINE COOLANT (KAPPA 1.0L MPI (GASOLINE, FFV), KAPPA 1.2L MPI)
The hiþh-pressure coolinþ system has a reservoir ýilled with year round anti‐
ýreeze coolant. The reservoir is ýilled at
the ýactory.
Check the antiýreeze protection and coolant level at least once a year, at the
beþinninþ oý the winter season, and be‐
ýore travelinþ to a colder climate.
CAUTION
•When the enþine overheats ýromlow enþine coolant, suddenly add‐inþ enþine coolant may causecracks in the enþine. To preventdamaþe, add enþine coolant slowlyin small quantities.
•Do not drive with no enþine cool‐ant. It may cause water pump ýail‐ure and enþine seizure, etc.

WARNING
Removinþ radiator cap
•Never attempt to remove the radi‐ator cap while the enþine is oper‐atinþ or hot. Doinþ so miþht leadto coolinþ system and enþine dam‐aþe. Also, hot coolant or steamcould cause serious personal in‐jury.
•Turn the enþine oýý and wait untilit cools down. Use extreme carewhen removinþ the radiator cap.Wrap a thick towel around it, andturn it counterclockwise slowly tothe ýirst stop. Step back while thepressure is released ýrom the cool‐inþ system. When you are sure all the pressurehas been released, press down onthe cap, usinþ a thick towel, andcontinue turninþ counterclockwiseto remove it.

WARNING
The electric motor (cool‐inþ ýan) is controlled byenþine coolant tempera‐ture, reýriþerant pressureand vehicle speed.
It may sometimes operate evenwhen the enþine is not runninþ. Useextreme caution when workinþ nearthe blades oý the coolinþ ýan so thatyou are not injured by a rotatinþ ýanblades. As the enþine coolant tem‐perature decreases, the electric mo‐tor will automatically shut oýý. Thisis a normal condition.
