The system consists of the following:
•Safety Canopy curtain airbags abovethe trim panels over the front and rearside windows identified by a label orwording on the headliner or roof-pillartrim.
•A flexible headliner which opens abovethe side doors to allow air curtaindeployment
· Crash sensors and monitoringsystem with a readinessindicator. See Crash Sensorsand Airbag Indicator (page 45).
Properly restrain children 12 years old andunder in the rear seats. The Safety Canopywill not interfere with children restrainedusing a properly installed child or boosterseat because it is designed to inflatedownward from the headliner above thedoors along the side window opening.
The design and development of the SafetyCanopy included recommended testingprocedures that were developed by agroup of automotive safety experts knownas the Side Airbag Technical WorkingGroup. These recommended testingprocedures help reduce the risk of injuriesrelated to the deployment of side airbags(including the Safety Canopy).
CRASH SENSORS AND
AIRBAG INDICATOR
WARNING
Modifying or adding equipment tothe front end of your vehicle(including hood, bumper system, frame, front end body structure, tow hooksand hood pins) may affect theperformance of the airbag system, increasing the risk of injury. Do not modifyor add equipment to the front end of yourvehicle.
Your vehicle has a collection of crash andoccupant sensors which provideinformation to the restraints controlmodule which deploys (activates) thefront seatbelt pretensioners, driver airbag, passenger airbag, knee airbag(s), seatmounted side airbags, and the SafetyCanopy. Based on the type of crash, therestraints control module will deploy theappropriate safety devices.
The restraints control module alsomonitors the readiness of the above safetydevices plus the crash and occupantsensors. A warning indicator light in theinstrument cluster indicates the readinessof the safety system. If this warningindicator light is not functioning and thereis another fault within the system, themessage cluster could display an airbagfailure warning. You could hear five tonesthat repeat periodically until you repair theproblem, the warning indicator light couldilluminate or both. Routine maintenanceof the airbag is not required.
A difficulty with the system is indicated byone or more of the following:
The indicator light will notilluminate immediately after theignition is turned on.

•The indicator light either flashes orstays illuminated.
•You could hear five tones thatperiodically repeat until the problem isrepaired.
•A message could appear in theinformation display.
If any of these things happen, evenintermittently, have the supplementalrestraint system serviced at an authorizeddealer immediately. Unless serviced, thesystem may not function properly in theevent of a crash.
The seatbelt pretensioners and the airbagsupplemental restraint system aredesigned to activate when your vehiclesustains frontal or sideways decelerationsufficient to cause the restraints controlmodule to deploy a safety device or whena certain likelihood of a rollover event isdetected by the rollover sensor.
The fact that the seatbelt pretensionersor airbags did not activate for both frontseat occupants in a crash does not meanthat something is wrong with the system.Rather, it means the restraints controlmodule determined the crash conditions(for example, crash severity, belt usage)were not appropriate to activate thesesafety devices.
•The design of the front airbags is toactivate only in frontal and near-frontalcrashes (not rollovers, side impacts orrear impacts) unless the crash causessufficient frontal deceleration.
•The seatbelt pretensioners aredesigned to activate in frontal,near-frontal, side and rollover crashes.
•The design of the side airbags is toinflate in certain side crashes. Sideairbags could activate in other types ofcrashes if the vehicle experiencessufficient sideways motion ordeformation.
•The knee airbag(s) could deploy basedon crash severity and occupantconditions.
•The design of the Safety Canopy is toinflate in certain side impact crashesand when a certain likelihood ofrollover is detected by the rolloversensor. The Safety Canopy couldactivate in other types of crashes if thevehicle experiences sufficient sidewaysmotion or deformation, or a certainlikelihood of rollover.
AIRBAG DISPOSAL
Contact your authorized dealer as soon aspossible. Airbags must be disposed of byqualified personnel.

Extending the Engine Running Time
To extend the engine running time durationof your vehicle during remote start, repeatsteps 1 and 2 while the engine is running. If the duration is set to 10 minutes, theduration extends by another 10 minutes. For example, if your vehicle had beenrunning from the first remote start for 5minutes, your vehicle continues to run nowfor a total of 20 minutes. You can extendthe engine running time duration to amaximum of 30 minutes.
Wait at least five seconds before remotestarting after a vehicle shutdown.
Turning Your Vehicle Off After RemoteStarting
Press the button once. Theparking lamps turn off.
You may have to be closer to your vehiclethan when starting due to ground reflectionand the added noise of the running vehicle.
You can turn the remote start system onor off using the information display. SeeGeneral Information (page 92).

Note:Switch the ignition on to use thesystem.
Note:All MyKeys are programmed to thesame settings. You cannot program themindividually.
Note:For vehicles equipped with apush-button start, when both a MyKey andan admin key are present, the admin key willbe recognized by the vehicle when you startthe vehicle.
Non-configurable Settings
The following settings cannot be changedby an admin key user:
•Safety belt reminder. You cannotdisable this feature. The audio systemwill mute when the front seatpassengers’ safety belts are notfastened.
•Early low fuel warning. The low-fuelwarning activates earlier, giving MyKeyusers more time to refuel.

•Satellite radio adult contentrestrictions, if equipped on your vehicle.
•Pre-collision assist and Lane Departurewarning switches on every ignitioncycle, but can be switched off by theMyKey user.
Configurable Settings
With an admin key, you can configurecertain MyKey settings when you firstcreate a MyKey and before you recycle thekey or restart the engine. You can alsochange the settings afterward with anadmin key.
•A vehicle speed limit can be set.Warnings will be shown in the displayfollowed by an audible tone when yourvehicle reaches the set speed. Youcannot override the set speed by fullydepressing the accelerator pedal or bysetting cruise control.
WARNING
Do not set MyKey maximum speedlimit to a limit that will prevent thedriver from maintaining a safe speedconsidering posted speed limits andprevailing road conditions. The driver isalways responsible to drive in accordancewith local laws and prevailing conditions.Failure to do so could result in accident orinjury.
