
DRIVER ALERT
Principle of Operation
WARNINGS
The system is designed to aid thedriver. It is not intended to replaceyour attention and judgment. You arestill responsible to drive with due care andattention.
At all times, you are responsible forcontrolling your vehicle, supervisingthe system and intervening, ifrequired. Failure to take care may result inthe loss of control of your vehicle, seriouspersonal injury or death.
The system may not function if thesensor is blocked.
Take regular rest breaks if you feeltired. Do not wait for the system towarn you.
Certain driving styles may result inthe system warning you even if youare not feeling tired.
In cold and severe weatherconditions the system may notfunction. Rain, snow and spray canall limit sensor performance.
The system will not operate if thesensor cannot track the road lanemarkings.
If damage occurs in the immediatearea surrounding the sensor, haveyour vehicle checked as soon aspossible.
The system may not correctlyoperate if your vehicle is fitted witha suspension kit not approved by us.
Note:Keep the windshield free fromobstructions for example bird droppings,insects and snow or ice.
Note:The system assists you when drivingon fast main roads and freeways.
Note:The system calculates an alertnesslevel at vehicle speeds above approximately40 mph (65 km/h).
The system automatically monitors yourdriving behavior.
The system is designed to alert you if itdetects that you are becoming drowsy orif your driving deteriorates.
Using Driver Alert
Switching the System On and Off
Switch the system on using the informationdisplay. See Information Displays (page92).
Note:The system remains on or offdepending on how it was last set.
The system calculates your alertness levelbased upon your driving behavior in relationto the lane markings and other factors.
System Warnings
Note:The system does not warn you if thevehicle speed falls below approximately40 mph (65 km/h).
The warning system has two stages:
1.A temporary warning is issued to adviseyou to take a rest. This message onlyappears for a short time.
2.If you do not rest and the systemcontinues to detect that your drivingdeteriorates, it issues a further warning.This remains in the information displayuntil you cancel it. See InformationMessages (page 96).
Press OK on the steering wheel control toremove the warning.

WARNINGS
If damage occurs in the immediatearea surrounding the sensor, haveyour vehicle checked as soon aspossible.
The sensor is located near the rear viewmirror.
Note:The system works above 40 mph(64 km/h).
Note:The system works as long as thecamera can detect one lane marking.
Note:The system may not function if thecamera is blocked or there is damage to thewindshield.
Note:When Aid mode is on and the systemdetects no steering activity for a shortperiod, the system will alert you to put yourhands on the steering wheel. The systemmay detect a light grip or touch on thesteering wheel as hands off driving.
The system notifies you to stay in your lanethrough the steering system and theinstrument cluster display when the frontcamera detects an unintentional drift outof your lane is likely to occur. The systemautomatically detects and tracks the roadlane markings using a camera mountedbehind the interior rear view mirror.
Switching the System On and Off
Note:The system on or off setting is storeduntil it is manually changed, unless a MyKeyis detected. If the system detects a MyKeyit defaults to on and the mode is set to Alert.
Note:If a MyKey is detected, pressing thebutton will not affect the on or off status ofthe system.
Press the button on the steeringwheel stalk to switch the systemon or off.
System Settings
The system has optional setting menusavailable. The system stores thelast-known selection for each of thesesettings. You do not need to readjust yoursettings each time you turn on the system.
Mode: This setting allows you to selectwhich of the system features you canenable.
Alert only – Provides a steering wheelvibration when the system detects anunintended lane departure.
Aid only – Provides an assistance steeringtorque input toward the lane center whenthe system detects an unintended lanedeparture.

Alert + Aid – Provides an assistancesteering torque input toward the lanecenter. If your vehicle continues drifting outof the lane, the system provides a steeringwheel vibration.
Note:The alert and aid diagrams illustrategeneral zone coverage. They do not provideexact zone parameters.
Intensity: This setting affects the intensityof the steering wheel vibration used for thealert and alert + aid modes. This settingdoes not affect the aid mode.

System Display
When you switch on the system, anoverhead graphic of a vehicle with lanemarkings will display in the informationdisplay. If you select aid mode when youswitch on the system, a separate whiteicon will also appear or in some vehiclesarrows will display with the lane markings.
When you switch off the system, the lanemarking graphics will not display.
While the system is on, the color of thelane markings will change to indicate thesystem status.
Gray: Indicates that the system istemporarily unable to provide a warningor intervention on the indicated side(s).This may be because:
•Your vehicle is under the activationspeed.
•The turn indicator is active.
•Your vehicle is in a dynamic maneuver.

TOWING A TRAILER
WARNING
Your vehicle is not approvedfor trailer towing. Never towa trailer with your vehicle.
TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLE
If you need to have your vehicle towed,contact a professional towing service or,if you are a member of a roadsideassistance program, your roadsideassistance service provider.
It is recommended that your vehicle betowed with a wheel lift and dollies orflatbed equipment. Do not tow with aslingbelt. Ford Motor Company has notapproved a slingbelt towing procedure. Ifthe vehicle is towed incorrectly, or by anyother means, vehicle damage may occur.
Ford Motor Company produces a towingmanual for all authorized tow truckoperators. Have your tow truck operatorrefer to this manual for proper hook-upand towing procedures for your vehicle.
You can tow your vehicle from the frontwith wheel lift equipment to raise the frontwheels off the ground. We recommendthat you place the rear wheels on a dollyto prevent damage to the rear of yourvehicle.
You can tow your vehicle from the rear withwheel lift equipment.
Note:You must place the front wheels ona dolly to prevent damage to thetransmission.

Recreational Towing

You can tow your vehicle with all fourwheels on the ground or with the frontwheels off the ground by using a tow dolly.If you are using a tow dolly, follow theinstructions specified by the equipmentprovider. If you tow your vehicle with allwheels on the ground, follow theseinstructions:
1.Tow only with your vehicle in theforward direction. Release the parkingbrake.
2.Place the transmission in neutral.
Note:The maximum towing speed is70 mph (112 km/h).

Emergency Towing
WARNING
If your vehicle has a steering wheellock make sure the ignition is in theaccessory or on position when beingtowed.
You can flat-tow (all wheels on theground, regardless of the powertrain andtransmission configuration) your disabledvehicle (without access to wheel dollies,car-hauling trailer, or flatbed transportvehicle) under the following conditions:
•Your vehicle is facing forward so youtow it in a forward direction.
•You place the transmission in neutral(N). If you cannot place thetransmission in neutral (N), you mayneed to override it. See Transmission(page 140).
•Maximum speed is 35 mph (56 km/h).
•Maximum distance is 50 mi (80 km).
Recreational Towing
WARNING
Your vehicle is not approved forrecreational towing with all fourwheels on the ground.
Note: Put your climate control system inrecirculated air mode to prevent exhaustfumes from entering the vehicle.
Follow these guidelines if you have a needfor recreational (RV) towing. An exampleof recreational towing would be towingyour vehicle behind a motorhome. Theseguidelines are designed to ensure that yourtransmission is not damaged.
Your vehicle can be towed with the frontwheels off the ground by using a tow dolly.If you are using a tow dolly follow theinstructions specified by the equipmentprovider.

Before driving through standing water,check the depth. Never drive through waterthat is higher than the bottom of the frontrocker area of your vehicle.
When driving through standing water, drivevery slowly and do not stop your vehicle.Your brake performance and traction maybe limited. After driving through water andas soon as it is safe to do so:
•Lightly press the brake pedal to dry thebrakes and to check that they work.
•Check that the horn works.
•Check that the exterior lights work.
•Turn the steering wheel to check thatthe steering power assist works.
FLOOR MATS
WARNINGS
Use a floor mat designed to fit thefootwell of your vehicle that does notobstruct the pedal area. Failure tofollow this instruction could result in theloss of control of your vehicle, personalinjury or death.
Pedals that cannot move freely cancause loss of vehicle control andincrease the risk of serious personalinjury.
WARNINGS
Secure the floor mat to bothretention devices so that it cannotslip out of position and interfere withthe pedals. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in the loss of control of yourvehicle, personal injury or death.
Do not place additional floor matsor any other covering on top of theoriginal floor mats. This could resultin the floor mat interfering with theoperation of the pedals. Failure to followthis instruction could result in the loss ofcontrol of your vehicle, personal injury ordeath.
Always make sure that objectscannot fall into the driver foot wellwhile your vehicle is moving. Objectsthat are loose can become trapped underthe pedals causing a loss of vehicle control.
To install the floor mats, position the floormat eyelet over the retention post andpress down to lock in position.
To remove the floor mat, reverse theinstallation procedure.
Note:Regularly check the floor mats tomake sure they are secure.
