setting the parking brake, this may indicate
a failure in the parking brake system. Seek
service from an authorized dealer
immediately. Driving extended distances
with the parking brake engaged can cause
brake failure and the risk of personal injury.
Powertrain Malfunction/Reduced
Power/Electronic Throttle Control
(If Equipped)
Illuminates in the event of a
powertrain fault. Contact an
authorized dealer as soon as
possible.
Service Engine Soon If it illuminates when the engine
is running this indicates a
malfunction. The On Board
Diagnostics system has detected a
malfunction of the vehicle emission control
system.
If it flashes, engine misfire may be
occurring. Increased exhaust gas
temperatures could damage the catalytic
converter or other vehicle components.
Drive in a moderate fashion (avoid heavy
acceleration and deceleration) and have
your vehicle immediately serviced.
It illuminates when you switch the ignition
on prior to engine start to check the bulb
and to indicate whether your vehicle is
ready for Inspection and Maintenance
(I/M) testing.
Normally, it illuminates until the engine is
cranked and automatically turns off if no
malfunctions are present. However, if after
15 seconds it flashes eight times, this
indicates that your vehicle is not ready for
Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) testing.
See Catalytic Converter (page 103). Stability Control and Traction
Control Indicator
(If Equipped) Illuminates and slowly flashes
when you change the traction
control mode. It illuminates and
rapidly flashes during a traction or stability
control event.
Trailer Anti-Lock Brake System
(ABS) Illuminates briefly when you
switch on the ignition, and only
when a PLC trailer or a PLC
diagnostic tool is connected. If the light
fails to illuminate, remains on after you
start the vehicle or continues to flash, have
the system serviced immediately.
Transmission Tow/Haul
(If Equipped) Illuminates when you switch on
the tow/haul feature. If the light
flashes steadily, have the system
serviced immediately, damage to the
transmission could occur.
Two Speed Axle The Two Speed Axle indicator
comes on when you switch the
low axle range on.
Wait to Start
(If Equipped) Illuminates when you switch the
ignition on as part of the
pre-start system. Wait until the
wait to start indicator turns off before
attempting to start vehicle. WARNING
Do not use starting fluid, for example
ether, in the air intake system. Such
fluid could cause immediate
explosive damage to the engine and
possible personal injury. 62

Water in Fuel (If Equipped)
Illuminates when the fuel
filter/water separator has a
significant quantity of water in
it.
If the light illuminates when the engine is
running, stop the vehicle as soon as safely
possible, shut off the engine, then drain the
fuel filter/water separator.
Allowing water to stay in the system could
result in extensive damage to, or failure of,
the fuel injection system. WARNING
Do not drain the water-in-fuel
separator while the engine is running.
Failure to follow this warning may
result in fire, serious injury, death or
property damage. AUDIBLE WARNINGS AND
INDICATORS
Beltminder Warning
Sounds when a safety belt is unfastened
in an occupied seat and your vehicle is
moving.
Door Ajar
Sounds when a door is not fully closed and
your vehicle is moving.

Sounds when you remove the key from the
ignition and open the driver's door and you
have left the headlamps or parking lamps
on.
Key in Ignition Warning Chime

GENERAL INFORMATION
WARNING
Driving while distracted can result in
loss of vehicle control, crash and
injury. We strongly recommend that
you use extreme caution when using any
device that may take your focus off the
road. Your primary responsibility is the safe
operation of your vehicle. We recommend
against the use of any hand-held device
while driving and encourage the use of
voice-operated systems when possible.
Make sure you are aware of all applicable
local laws that may affect the use of
electronic devices while driving. You can control various systems on your
vehicle using the information display
controls on the steering wheel. The
information display provides the
corresponding information.

XXX MILES (km) TO E
This displays an estimate of approximately
how far you can drive with the fuel
remaining in your tank under normal driving
conditions. Remember to turn the ignition
off when refueling to allow this feature to
detect the correct amount of added fuel.
The system calculates the distance to
empty by using a running average fuel
economy, which uses your recent driving
history of 500 miles (800 km).
This value is not the same as the average
fuel economy display. The running average
fuel economy resets to a factory default
value if the battery is disconnected.

Your vehicle has entered the cleaning mode. Various engine
actions raise the exhaust temperature in the diesel particulate filter system to burn off the particles (exhaust soot). After
the vehicle burns off the particles, the exhaust temperature returns to normal levels. This message is normal.

cleaning is not permitted. Your vehicle requires dealer service to restore it to full –power operation.
Your vehicle exhaust system temperature exceeds intended operating range. If this warning occurs, a chime sounds,
followed by reduced engine power. The engine shuts down
when your vehicle speed is below 3 mph (5 km/h). Stop the
vehicle as soon as safely possible. Have the system checked by an authorized dealer.
