High
performance
engine
General
The
high
power
engine
generates
a
maximum power
of
317
kW,
with
Competition
package 331
kW
and
a
maximum
torque
of
550
Nm
from3
litres
of
capacity.
The
maximum
power
for
the
M3
CS
is
338
kW and
the
maximum
torque
600
Nm.
The
spontaneous
responsiveness
of
the
high-
performance
engine
produces
a
very
broad
usaj
ble
engine
speed
range.
The
maximum
engine speed
is
electronically
regulated
at
7600
rpm.
Due
to
the
powerful
engine
dynamics,
the
maxij
mum
engine
speed
is
limited
when
the
vehicle
is stationary.
Driving
hot
During
the
engine
warm-up
phase,
the
high
perj
formance
engine
runs
slightly
more
roughly
due
to
the
emission
control.
When
the
engine
is
cold,
the
exhaust
has
a
slightly
metallic
undertone,
depending
on
the
system.

M
compound
brakes
The
high
performance
brake
system
has
ventilaj
ted
compound
brake
discs.
Depending
on
design
requirements,
function
noises
may
occur
when
braking.
The
functional noises
have
no
effect
on
the
efficiency,
operaj
tional
safety
and
endurance
of
the
brake.
Braking
correctly To
keep
the
brake
system
in
optimum
condition,it
is
desirable
to
load
them
at
regular
intervals
dejpending
on
the
nature
of
the
vehicle.
M
Carbon
ceramic
brakes
The
high
performance
brake
system
has
ventilaj ted
carbon-ceramic
brake
discs.
Depending
on
the
material-specific
properties,
there
can
be
increased
functional
noises
when braking,
particularly
when
it
is
wet,
shortly
before
the
vehicle
comes
to
a
stop.
Increased
functional noises
have
no
effect
on
the
efficiency,
operajtional
safety
and
endurance
of
the
brake.
Due
to
the
effect
of
wetness
and
salt
spray,
for
example,
after
using
a
car
wash,
condensation overnight,
driving
in
rain
etc.,
the
braking
effectmay
correspond
to
a
conventional
braking
sysj
tem.
The
braking
effect
may
be
perceived
to
be
reduced
and
can
be
compensated
for
by
greater
pedal
pressure,
as
needed.
First
clean
brake
discs
and
callipers
with
a
steam
cleaner
or
high-pressure
cleaner
before
washing
the
vehicle
in
an
automatic
washing
bay
or
car
wash.

from
causing
crusty
deposits
and
build-up
toform
if
the
vehicle
then
remains
stationary
for
aperiod
of
time.
The
cleaning
effect
of
automaticcar
washes
generally
not
sufficient
for
this
in
thewheel
area.

Drivetrain
In
this
vehicle,
particular
attention
is
paid
to
the
direct
connection
from
the
engine
to
the
drivej train.
Due
to
the
torsionally
stiff
design
of
the
drivetrain,
as
usual
in
a
sports
car,
the
transmisj
sion
of
the
torque
is
can
also
be
heard.
When
there
are
load
changes,
it
can
therefore
cause
clattering
noises.
The
clicking
noises
do
not
affect
the
function
or
lifetime
of
the
compoj
nents.
Driving
on
a
racing
track
The
higher
mechanical
and
thermal
loads
inj volved
in
driving
on
racing
tracks
lead
to
inj
creased
wear.
This
wear
is
not
covered
by
the
warranty.
The
vehicle
is
not
conceived
for
use
in
motor
sports
competitions.
Before
driving
on
a
racing
track,
have
the
vehicle
checked
at
a
Service
Partner
of
the
manufacturer
or
another
qualified
Service
Partner
or
a
specialj
ist
workshop.
The
standard
brake
pads
and
the
wear
displays are
not
designed
for
racing
track
operation.

Closing
the
boot

the
boot
lid
protrudes
above
the
vehicle,

driving,

contact

hot
vehicle
parts.

the

Radio
signals
WARNING
Certain
vehicle
functions
may
be
affected
by
inj terference
from
high-frequency
radio
signals.
Such
signals
originate
from
various
transmitter systems,
for
example,
from
air
traffic
beaconsor
relay
stations
for
mobile
telecommunicajtions.

you

experience

difficulties

Mobile
communication
in
the
vehicle
WARNING
There
is
a
possibility
of
mutual
interference
bej
tween
the
vehicle
electronics
and
mobile
radio
devices.
Radiation
is
generated
when
mobile
radio
devices
are
transmitting.
There
is
a
danj
ger
of
injury
or
damage
to
property.
If
possible,
only
use
mobile
radio
devices,
for

in
the
interior

the
radiation
from
the
vehicle's
interior.
Aquaplaning
On
wet
or
slushy
roads,
a
wedge
of
water
can form
between
the
tyres
and
the
road.
This
situation,
known
as
aquaplaning,
means
that
the
tyre
can
actually
lose
contact
completely
with the
road
surface
and
the
vehicle
can
neither
besteered
nor
the
brakes
properly
applied.

with

when
driving
through

through

up
to
a

at

NOTE
Driving
through
excessively
deep
water
too
fast
can
result

water
entering
the
engine

electrical
system

transmission.
There

When
driving
through
water,
do
not
exceed
the

specified
water
depth
and
maximum
fordjing
speed.
Safe
braking
GeneralThe
vehicle
is
equipped
with
ABS
as
standard.
Perform
full
braking
in
situations
that
require
it. The
vehicle
remains
steerable.
Any
obstacles
can
be
avoided
by
performing
steering
movej
ments
as
smoothly
as
possible.
A
pulsing
of
the
brake
pedal
shows
that
ABS
is
regulating.
In
certain
braking
situations,
the
perforated
brake
discs
can
cause
functional
noise.
Functional noises
have
no
effect
on
the
efficiency
and
opjerational
safety
of
the
brakes.
Objects
in
the
range
of
movement
of
the
pedals
and
in
the
footwell
WARNING
Objects
in
the
driver's
footwell
can
restrict
the
pedal
travel,
or
block
a
pedal
that
has
been
pressed.
There
is
a
danger
of
accidents.
Stow items
in
the
vehicle
so
that
they
are
secure
andcannot
get
into
the
driver's
footwell.
Only
usefloor
mats
that
are
appropriate
for
the
vehicleand
can
be
securely
fastened
to
the
floor.
Do
not
use
any
loose
floor
mats,
and
do
not
place
several
floor
mats
on
top
of
one
another.
Make
sure
that
there
is
sufficient
space
for
the
pedj
als.
Ensure
that
the
floor
mats
are
securely
rej
attached
after
having
been
removed,
for
examj
ple
for
cleaning.
Wet
roads
In
damp
weather,
if
road
grit
has
been
spread
or
there
is
heavy
rain,
apply
the
brakes
lightly
every
few
kilometres/miles.
In
doing
so,
do
not
obstruct
other
road
users.
The
heat
generated
by
braking
dries
the
brake
discs
and
brake
pads,
and
protects
them
against
corrosion.
This
way,
brake
power
is
available
immediately, whenever
it
is
needed.
Downhill
gradients General
When
driving
on
long
or
steep
downhill
stretches,
use
the
gear
in
which
the
least
braking
is
required.
Otherwise
the
brake
system
can
overheat
and
braking
effect
is
reduced.
