injury

the
airbag

occupants
keep
their head
away
from

front-seat
passenger

words
with
feet
or
legs
in
the

resting

on

by
the
deployment
of
an
airj
bag
may
lead
to
temporary
hearing
loss
for
vehij
cle
occupants
sensitive

noise.

readiness

the
airbag
system

Key
switch
for
front
passenger
airbags
General
The
front
and
side
airbags
for
the
front
passenj
ger
can
be
deactivated
and
reactivated
using
the integrated
key
from
the
remote
control.
Deactivating
the
front
passenger
airbags
1.Insert
the
key
and
press
inwards
where
necj essary.2.While
the
key
is
pressed
inwards,
turn
it
to
the
OFF
position
as
far
as
it
will
go.
Once
thestop
position
has
been
reached,
remove
the key.3.Make
sure
that
the
key
switch
is
in
the
end
position
so
that
the
airbags
are
deactivated.
The
front
passenger
airbags
are
deactivated.
The
driver's
airbags
remain
active.
If
a
child
restraint
system
is
no
longer
fitted
in
the front
passenger
seat,
reactivate
the
front
passenj
ger
airbags
so
that
they
are
triggered
as
intended in
the
event
of
an
accident.

airbag

is

on
the
front passenger
airbag
indicator
lamp,
see
page
149.
Activating
the
front
passenger
airbags
1.Insert
the
key
and
press
inwards
where
necj essary.2.While
the
key
is
pressed
inwards,
turn
it
to
the
ON
position
as
far
as
it
will
go.
Once
the
stop
position
has
been
reached,
remove
the key.3.Make
sure
that
the
key
switch
is
in
the
end
position

that

airbags

front

airbags
are
reactivated
and
can
deploy
correctly
if
the
need
arises.

Indicator
lamp
for
front
passenger
airbags
The
indicator
lamp
for
the
front
passenger
airj
bags
shows
the
operating
status
of
the
front
pasj senger
airbags.
After
switching
on
the
ignition,
the
light
illumij nates
briefly
and
then
shows
whether
the
airbags
are
activated
or
deactivated.
'xWhen
front
passenger
airbags
are
deactivated,
the
indicator
lamp
remains
illuminated.'xWhen
front
passenger
airbags
are
activated,
the
indicator
lamp
is
not
illuminated.
Active
pedestrian
protection
Principle
The
active
pedestrian
protection
system
raises the
bonnet
if
the
vehicle's
front
end
collides
with
a
pedestrian.
Sensors
underneath
the
bumper
are
used
for
detection.
This
provides
additional
deformation
space
underneath
the
bonnet
for the
subsequent
head
impact.
Safety
notes
WARNING
The
system
can
trigger
inadvertently
if
contact is
made
with
individual
components
of
the
hinges
and
bonnet
locks.
There
is
a
danger
of
injury
or
damage
to
property.
Do
not

protection

Pressure
MonitorTPM
Principle
The
system
monitors
the
tyre
inflation
pressure in
the
four
fitted
tyres.
The
system
warns
if
the
tyre
inflation
pressure
in
one
or
more
tyres
has
fallen
considerably.
General
Sensors
in
the
tyre
valves
measure
the
tyre
inflaj
tion
pressure
and,
depending
on
the
model,
the
tyre
temperature.
To
operate
the
system,
also
follow
the
other
inj formation
and
notes
under
Tyre
inflation
presj sure,
see
page
230.
Operating
requirements The
following
requirements
must
be
met
for
the
system,
otherwise
reliable
signalling
of
a
loss
of
tyre
inflation
pressure

identify
tyre
damage,

the
manufacturer

flat
tyre,

flat tyre
kit

changing

wheel.
The
use
of
sealant,
for

a
flat
tyre

can
damage
the
TPM
wheel

Temperature The
tyre
inflation

depends
on
the
temj
perature
of
the
tyre.
The

as
