Tire
tread
Summer
tires
Do not drive with a tire tread of less than
0.12 in/3 mm, otherwise there is an increased risk of hydroplaning.
Winter
tires Do not drive with a tire tread of less than
0.16 in/4 mm, as such tires are less suitable for
winter operation.
Minimum
tread
depth
Wear indicators are distributed around the tire's
circumference and have the legally required minj imum height of 0.063 inches/1.6 mm.
The positions of the wear indicators are marked on the tire sidewall with TWI, Tread Wear Indicaj
tor.
Tire
damage
General
information Inspect your tires regularly for damage, foreign
objects lodged in the tread, and tread wear.
Driving over rough or damaged road surfaces, as
well as debris, curbs and other obstacles can
cause serious damage to wheels, tires and susj
pension parts. This is more likely to occur with
low-profile tires, which provide less cushioning
between the wheel and the road. Be careful to
avoid road hazards and reduce your speed, esj
pecially if your vehicle is equipped with low-proj file tires.
Indications of tire damage or other vehicle malj
functions:'xUnusual vibrations.'xUnusual tire or running noises.'xUnusual handling such as a strong tendency
to pull to the left or right.
Damage can be caused by the following situaj
tions, for instance:
'xDriving over curbs.'xRoad damage.'xTire inflation pressure too low.'xVehicle overloading.'xIncorrect tire storage.

WARNING
Damaged tires can lose tire inflation pressure,
which can lead to loss of vehicle control. There is a risk of an accident. If tire damage is susj
pected while driving, immediately reduce speed
and stop. Have wheels and tires checked. For
this purpose, drive carefully to the nearest dealj erss service center or another qualified service
center or repair shop. Have vehicle towed or
transported as needed. Do not repair damaged
tires, but have them replaced.
WARNING
Tires can become damaged by driving over obj
stacles, e.g., curbs or road damage, at high
speed. Larger wheels have a smaller tire cross- section. The smaller the tire cross-section, the
higher the risk of tire damage. There is a danj
ger of accidents and property damage. If possij
ble, drive around obstacles, or drive over them
slowly and carefully.

Have mounting and wheel balancing carried out
by a dealerss service center or another qualified
service center or repair shop.
Wheel
and
tire
combination
General
information You can ask the dealerss service center or anj
other qualified service center or repair shop
about the correct wheel/tire combination and wheel rim versions for the vehicle.

WARNING
Wheels and tires which are not suitable for your vehicle can damage parts of the vehicle, for inj
stance due to contact with the body due to tolj
erances despite the same official size rating.
There is a risk of an accident. The manufacj
turer of your vehicle strongly suggests that you
use wheels and tires that have been recomj
mended by the vehicle manufacturer for your
vehicle type.
WARNING
Mounted steel wheels can cause technical
problems, for instance independent loosening
of the lug bolts, damage to the brake discs.
There is a risk of an accident. Do not mount steel wheels.
WARNING
Incorrect wheel/tire combinations will have a
negative impact on the vehicle's handling and
on the function of a variety of systems, such as
ABS or DSC. There is a risk of an accident. To
maintain good handling and vehicle response,
use only tires with a single tread configuration
from a single manufacturer. The manufacturer
of the vehicle recommends that you use
wheels and tires that have been recommended
by the vehicle manufacturer for your vehicle
type. Following tire damage, have the original
wheel/tire combination remounted on the vehij
cle as soon as possible.
Recommended
tire
brands
For each tire size, the manufacturer of the vehij cle recommends certain tire brands. The tire
brands can be identified by a star on the tire
sidewall.
New
tires Tire traction is not optimal due to manufacturing
circumstances when tires are brand-new; they achieve their full traction potential after a break-intime.
Drive conservatively for the first
200 miles/300 km.
Retreaded
tires
WARNING
Retreaded tires can have different tire casing
structures. With advanced age the service life
can be limited. There is a risk of an accident.
The manufacturer of your vehicle does not recj
ommend the use of retreaded tires.

Winter
tires General
information Winter tires are recommended for operating onwinter roads.
Although so-called all-season M+S tires provide better winter traction than summer tires, they
usually do not provide the same level of performj
ance as winter tires.
Maximum
speed
of
winter
tires If the maximum speed of the vehicle is higher
than the permissible speed for the winter tires,
then attach a label showing the permissible maxij
mum speed in the field of view. The label is availj able from a dealerss service center or another
qualified service center or repair shop.
With winter tires mounted, observe and do not
exceed the permissible maximum speed.
Run-flat
tires
If you are already using run-flat tires, for your own safety you should replace them only with thesame kind. No spare tire is available in the caseof a flat tire. Further information is available froma dealerss service center or another qualified
service center or repair shop.
Rotating
wheels
between
axles
Different wear patterns can occur on the front
and rear axles depending on individual driving
conditions. The tires can be rotated in pairs bej
tween the axles to achieve even wear. Further inj formation is available from a dealerss service cenjter or another qualified service center or repairshop. After rotating, check the tire pressure and
correct, if needed.
Rotating the tires is not permissible on vehicles with different tire sizes or rim sizes on the front
and rear axles.Storing

Do not exceed the maximum tire inflation presj
sure indicated on the side wall of the tire.
Storage Store wheels and tires in a cool, dry and dark
place.
Always protect tires against all contact with oil,
grease, and solvents.
Do not leave tires in plastic bags.
Remove dirt from wheels or tires.
Run-flat
tires
Concept
Run-flat tires permit continued driving under rej
stricted conditions even in the event of a comj plete loss of tire inflation pressure.
General
informationThe wheels consist of tires that are self-supportj
ing, to a limited degree, and possibly special
rims.
The support of the sidewall allows the tire to rej
main drivable to a restricted degree in the event
of a tire inflation pressure loss.
Follow the instructions for continued driving with
a flat tire.
Safety
information
WARNING
Your vehicle handles differently with a run-flat
with no or low inflation pressure; for instance, your lane stability when braking is reduced,braking distances are longer and the self-steerj
ing properties will change. There is a risk of an
accident.

Mobility
System
Concept
With the Mobility System, minor tire damage can be sealed temporarily to enable continued travel.
To accomplish this, sealant is pumped into thetires, which seals the damage from the inside.

information'xFollow the instructions on using the Mobility
System found on the compressor and sealant container.'xUse of the Mobility System may be ineffecj
tive if the tire puncture measures approx.
1/8 inches/4 mm or more.'xContact a dealerss service center or another qualified service center or repair shop if thetire cannot be made drivable.'xIf possible, do not remove foreign bodies thathave penetrated the tire. Only remove foreignobjects if they are visibly protruding from the
tire.'xPull the speed limit sticker off the sealant
container and apply it to the steering wheel.'xThe use of a sealant can damage the TPM wheel electronics. In this case, have the elecj
tronics checked and replaced at the next opj portunity.'xThe compressor can be used to check the

with
sealant

DANGER
If the exhaust pipe is blocked or ventilation is inj
sufficient, harmful exhaust gases can enter into the vehicle. The exhaust gases contain pollujtants which are colorless and odorless. In enj
closed areas, exhaust gases can also accumuj
late outside of the vehicle. There is danger to
life. Keep the exhaust pipe free and ensure sufj
ficient ventilation.
NOTE
The compressor can overheat during extended operation. There is a risk of damage to propj
erty. Do not run the compressor for more than
10 minutes.
Filling

2.Pull filling hose completely out of the cover ofthe sealant container. Do not kink the hose.3.Slide the sealant container into the holder on
the compressor housing, ensuring that it enj
gages audibly.4.Screw the filling hose of the sealant container onto the tire valve of the nonworking wheel.5.With the compressor switched off, insert the
plug into the power socket inside the vehicle.6.With standby state switched on or the engine running, switch on the compressor.
Let the compressor run for max. 10 minutes to fill
the tire with sealant and achieve a tire inflation pressure of approx. 2.5 bar.
While the tire is being filled with sealant, the tire
inflation pressure may sporadically reach approx.
5 bar. Do not switch off the compressor at this point.
Checking
and
adjusting
the
tire
inflation
pressure
Checking
1.Switch off the compressor.2.Read the tire inflation pressure on the tirepressure gage.
To continue the trip, a tire inflation pressure of atleast 2 bar must be reached.

Removing

If a tire inflation pressure of at least 2 bar canj
not be reached, contact your dealerss servicecenter or another qualified service center or
repair shop.
If a tire inflation pressure of at least 2 bar is
reached, see Minimum tire inflation pressure
is reached.6.Unscrew the connection hose of the comj pressor from the tire valve.7.Pull the connector out of the power socketinside the vehicle.8.Stow the Mobility System in the vehicle.

Do not exceed a speed of 50 mph/80 km/h. If possible, do not drive at speeds less than 12 mph/20 km/h.
