Central locking
Description
You can lock and u nlock the veh icle centrally. You
have the following options:
- Remote control key
i:> page 24,
- Sensors in the door handles* c> page 25,
-Lock cylinder on the driver 's door c> page 27,
or
- Interior central locking switch
c> page 26.
Auto Lock
The Auto Lock funct ion locks all doors and the
luggage compartment lid once the speed has ex­
ceeded approx imately 9 mph (lS km/h).
The vehicle can be unlocked if the opening func­
tion in the centra l locking system sw itch is used
or one of the door handles is pulled. The Auto L ock function can be switched on and off in the
Infotainment system
c> page 26.
I n t he event of a crash with a irbag deployment ,
the doors will a lso automat icall y unlock to allow
access to the vehicle .
Selective unlocking
The doors and luggage compartment lid w ill lock
when they close. You can set in the Infotainment
system whether
only the driver's doo r or the en­
tire veh icle should be unlocked when unlocking
c>page26.
Turn signals
The turn s ignals flash tw ice when you un lock the
veh icle and flash once when you lock the veh icle .
I f the blin king con tinues, one of the doors or the
luggage compartment lid is not closed or the ig­
nition is still switched on .
Unintentionally locking yourself out
Only lock your vehicle when all of the doo rs and
the luggage compa rtment l id a re closed and the
remo te control key is no t in the vehicle. This
he lps to prevent yo u from locking yourself out
accidentally.

The following conditions prevent yo u from lock ­
ing your remote control key in the vehicle:
- If the driver's door is open, the vehicle can not
be locked by press ing
the ~ button on the re­
mote contro l key or by touching the locking
sensor* on a door .
- If the mos t recently used conven ien ce key* is
detected in the luggage compartment, the lug­
gage compartment lid automatica lly unlocks
again after closing it.
- If the convenience key* that was last used is de­
tected inside the vehicle, then the vehicle can­
not be locked from the outside.
(D Tips
- Do not leave va luables unattended in the ve­
hicle. A locked vehicle is not a safe!
- The LED i n the driver's door rail b links when
you lock the vehicle. If the LED lights up for
approximate ly 30 seconds after locking,
there is a malfunction in the central locking
system. Have the problem corrected by an
authorized A udi dealer or autho rized Aud i
Service Facility .

off. It does not have a function .

Replacing a key
If a key is lost, see an authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility. Have
this key de­
activated.
It is important to bring all keys with
you. If a key is lost, you should report it to your
insurance company.
Number of keys
You can check the number of keys ass igned to
your vehicle in the Infotainment system . To do
this, select the
I MENU I button > Vehicle > left
control button
> Service & checks > Vehicle in ·
formation .
This way, you can make sure that you
have all the keys when purchasing a used vehicle .
Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents unautho rized use of
the vehicle .
Unde r certain circumstances, the vehicle may not
be able to start if there is a remote contro l key
from a different vehicle manufacturer on the key
chain .
Data in the master key
When driving , service and maintenance- relevant
data is continuously stored in your remote con­
trol key . Your Audi service adviso r can read out
this data and te ll you about the work your vehicle
needs. This applies also to veh icles with a con­
venience key *.
Personal convenience settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master
key. When the ignition is turned
off or when the
ve hicle is locked, persona l convenience settings
for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key .
- Climate control system
- Parking aid*
- Active lane assist*
- Side ass ist*
- Drive select

Opening and closing
A WARNING
If you leave the vehicle, switch the ignition off
and take the vehicle key w ith you. This applies
particularly when children remain in the vehi­
cle . Otherwise the child ren cou ld start the en­
g ine or operate electrical equ ipment such as
power windows.
(D Note
Protect the remote control key against high
temperatures and direct sunl ight.
(D Tips
- The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters near the vehicle working
in the same frequency range (such as a cell
phone or radio equipment). Always check if
yo ur vehicle is locked!

Removing the mechanical key

Power top
-Visibility to the rear is limited when operat­
ing the power top. Avoid operat ing the top
wh ile driving in reverse.
(D Note
- To prevent damage to the power top:
- do not store any objects in the power top
storage compartment.
- make sure there is enough space above
the vehicle when opening or clos ing the
powe r top.
(D Tips
- To prevent the vehicle battery from dra ining
unnecessari ly, do not open or close the pow­
er top repeatedly when the engine is switch­
ed off.
- A message will appear in the instrument
cluster if there is a malfunction in the powe r
top
~ page 34.
- The powe r top can also be operated manual­
l y temporari ly if there is a malfunction
~ page 36, Power top emergency opera­
tion.
An authorized A udi dealer or author­
ized Audi Service Facility should diagnose
and correct the cause of the ma lfunction as
soon as possib le .
- If the vehicle is parked with the power top open, the vehicle interior is not protected
from damaging weather or unauthor ized ac­
cess. Lock any items you leave behind in the
luggage compartment. C lose the power top
before leaving the vehicle .
- The side windows automat ically lower
slightly when opening or closing the power
top.

Releasing the key stops the opening or clos ing
process
immedi ately . Opening and closing with
the convenience key* is possible from up to ap­
prox imately 13 feet (4 meters) away from the ve­
hicle.

This message appears when the re is a malfunc­
tion. The power top can be operated manually

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding position:
@ -Windshield wipe rs off

I n vehicles with a ra in senso r*, the wipe rs turn o n
in the ra in once the vehicle speed exceeds ap ­
p roximate ly 2 mph (4 km/h). The h igher the sen ­
sitivity of the rain sensor* is set (switch @to the
right), the earlier the winds hield wipers react to
mo isture on the windshield. You can deact ivate
the ra in sensor mode* in the Infotainment sys­
tem, which switches the intermittent mode on.
Select in the Infotainment system:

d roplets, the windsh ield wipers pe rform one af ­
terwipe after several seconds wh ile driving in
temperatures above 39 ° F (4 °C). You can switc h
this function off by moving the lever to position
@ within 10 seconds of the afterwipe. The after­
wipe function is reactivated the next t ime you
switch the ignition on.
C lean the headlights*. The headlight washer sys­
tem* only functions when the lights are switched
on. The headlights are automat ically cleaned the
f irst time and every fifth t ime the lever is moved
to position

- If there is frost, make sure the windshield
w iper blades are not frozen to the wind­
shield. Switching on the w indshield w ipers
when the blades are frozen to the wind­ shield can damage the w iper blades.
- The windshie ld w iper system must be
sw itched off (lever in posit io n 0) before us­
ing a car wash. This prevents the w ipers
from switc hing on un intent io nally and caus­
ing damage to the winds hield wiper system.
(D Tips
- T he windsh ie ld w ipers sw itch off when the
ign ition is switched off. You can activate the
w indshield w ipe rs after the ignition is
sw itched back on by mov ing the w indshield
w iper lever to a ny posi tion.
- Wor n or d irty w indshie ld w iper blades res ult
in st reaking. This can affect t he rain senso r*
function. Chec k your w indshie ld w iper
blades reg ularly.
- Th e washer fluid no zzles in the winds hield
washe r system are heated* at low tempera ­
t ur es when the ignition is on .
- Whe n stopping tempo rar ily, such as at a
traffic lig ht, the speed of the windshield
wipers automatica lly reduces by one level.
Cleaning windshield wiper blades
Clean the wiper b lades when you see w iper
streaks. C lean the wiper blades with a soft towel
and glass cleaner .

For safety reasons, the windshie ld wiper
blades should be replaced once or twice each
year.

- Th e windshie ld wiper blades must only be
folded away when in the service position!
Otherwise, you risk damaging the paint on
the hood or the windshield wiper motor.
- You should not drive your vehicle or press the windshield wiper lever when the wiper
arms are folded away from the windshield.
The windshield w ipers would move back in­
to their original position and could damage
the hood and windshield.

- You can also use the service posit ion, for ex­
ample, if you want to protect the windshield
from icing by using a cover .
- You cannot activate the service posit ion
when the hood is open .
Digital compass
Switching the compass on and off

The dig ital compass only works when the ignit ion
is turned on . The directions are indicated with ab­

Warm and cold Climate control system
Description
The climate control system warms , cools and re­
moves humidity from the air in the vehicle inte ri­
or. It functions most effective ly w hen the w in ­
dows are closed. If there is a build -up of heat in ­
side the vehicle, venti lation can help to speed up
the cooling process .
Pollutant filter
The pollutant filte r removes pollutants such as
d ust and pollen from the a ir.
Key recognition
Certain settings are automat ically stored and as­
signed to the remote contro l key being used .
A WARNING
Poor vis ibili ty ca n lead to ac cidents .
- For safer d riving, keep all windows free of
ice, snow a nd fog.
- Become fam ilia r as qu ickly as possible with
the correct use and function of the cl imate
c o ntro l system, espe cially with the defrost­
ing and defogg ing func tion.
- Whe n the tempe ratu re is below free zing,
o nly use the win dshi eld washer sys tem after
the wi nds hield ha s been war med by t he cli ­
mate co ntro l sys tem. The washer fluid co ul d
freeze on the w indshield and impair visibili ­
ty .

Avoid full acceler ation
You sho uld rare ly t rave l a t t he maxim um vehicle
speed . High speeds cause a disproportionately
h igh increase in fuel consumption, emissions and
traffic noise . Slower driving saves fuel.
Reduce idling time
It pays off to stop the eng ine, for example when
at ra ilroad crossings or traffi c lights w ith longer
red lights . Stopping the engine for 30 -40 sec­
onds already saves more fuel than the amount of
extra fuel needed to restart the engine.
I t takes a very long time in idle to wa rm the en­
gine up to operating tempera ture . Wea r and
emissions are especially high in the warm -up
p hase . Therefore, you should begin driving im ­
mediately after starting the engine. Avoid high
RPMs while do ing th is.
Hav e ma intenanc e performed r egularly
By having maintenance performed regu lar ly on
your vehicle, you can he lp to reduce fuel con ­
sumption before yo u even start to drive. The
maintenance condition of your vehicle not only
affects traffic safety and long-term va lue but al­
so impacts
fu el con sumpt ion .
A poorly maintained engine can lead to fuel con ­
sumpt ion that is 10% higher than norma l.
A lso check the
o il l evel when refueling . The oil
consumpt ion
depends large ly on the engine load
and speed. It is normal for the oil consumption
of a new eng ine to reach its lowest point only af­
ter a certain amount of use. Therefore, the oil
consumption can only be properly judged after
approx imately 3,000 m i (S,000 km) have been
driven.
Avoid short trips
The engine and exhaust clean ing system must
reach their opt imal
op erating temp eratur e to ef­
fective ly reduce consumpt ion and emiss ions.
A co ld engine uses a disproportionately h igh
amount of fuel. The eng ine reaches operating
temperature and consumpt ion normalizes only
afte r approx imately
2.5 miles (4 km) .
Driving
@ Note
Do not leave engine idling unattended after
start ing. If warning lights sho uld come on to
i ndicate improper operation, they would go
unheeded. Extended idling also produces
heat, which could resu lt in overheating or
other damage to the veh icle o r other proper­
ty.

vehicle's Emission Contro l System and other
impo rtant ve hicle components.

(EPA) and T ransport Canada may not co rre­
spond to your actual consumption on the r oad, wh ich w ill vary depending upon veh icle
l oad and speed, road and weather cond itions,

Adjusting the steering wheel position
The steering wheel position is fully adjustable up
and down and forward and back .

... Bring the steering wheel into the desired posi­
tion .
... Push the lever against the steering column un­
til it is secure.
A WARNING
Incorrect use of the steering wheel adjust­
ment and an incorrect seating position can
cause se rious injuries .
- Only adjust the steering column when the vehicle is stat io nary so that you do not lose
contro l of the ve hicle.
-
-Adjust the driver's seat or steering wheel so
that there is at least a 10 in (25 cm) d is­
tance between your c hest an d the steering
wheel.
If you do not mainta in this dis tan ce,
you will not be p roper ly protec ted by t he air­
bag system.
- If your physical character istics preven t you
from sit ting at least 1 0 in (25 cm) or more
away from the steering wheel, see if an a u­
tho rized Aud i dea le r or a uthorized Audi
Service Facility can provide adapters that
will help.
- If your face is leve l w ith the steering
wheel,
the a irbag does not prov ide as much protec­
t ion during a collision. A lways make sure
that the steering wheel is level with your
chest.

-Always hold the steering wheel with your hands in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock pos i­
tions to reduce the risk of injury if the airbag
deploys .
- Never hold the steering wheel in the 12
o'clock position or with both hands on the
rim or the center of the steering wheel. Ho ld ing the steer ing whee l incorrect ly sig­
nificant ly increases the risk of injury to the
hands, a rms and head if the airbag deploys.

the engine
Starting the engine
The !S T ART ENGINE STOP lbutton switches the
ignition on and starts the engine .

Starting the engine

If the engine does not start immediately , the
start ing procedure stops a utomat ica lly after a
