Intelligent Technology Electronic Stabilization
Control (ESC)
Description
Elect ronic stabili zation control ( ESC) supports
driver safety. It red uces the risk of slipping and
improves dr iving stabi lity. ESC detects crit ica l sit­
uations such as the vehicle overstee ring and un­
dersteeri ng or the w heels are sp inning. The vehi­
cle is stabilized by app lying the brakes or reduc ­
i n g e ngine torque . When the ESC engages, the
G1 indicato r light bli nks in t he instr ument clus­
t er.
The fo llow ing systems are in tegrated in the ESC:
Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
ABS p reve nts the whee ls from lock ing whe n brak ­
ing. The vehicle can st ill be steered even d uring
hard brak ing. Apply steady press ure to the bra ke
pedal. Do not pump the pedal. A puls ing in t he
b rake pedal indicates that the system is act ing to
s tabili ze the vehicle .
Brake assist system
The brake assist system can decrease brak ing dis­
tance . It inc reases brak ing power when the d river
presses the brake pedal q uick ly in eme rgency sit­
uations . You must press and hold t he b rake pedal
until the dangerous si tuatio n is ove r. In veh icles
w ith adapt ive c ruise con trol*, the bra ke assist
sys te m is more sensitive if t he di stan ce detec ted
t o the veh icle dr iv ing ahead is too small.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR)
ASR reduces eng ine power when the drive wheels
beg in s pinning a nd adapts the force to the road
conditions . T his makes it easie r to sta rt, acceler­
a te and dr ive u p hill s.
Electronic differential lock (EDL)
The EDL applies the brakes to a whee l t h at starts
sp inning and transfe rs t he d rive power to t he
other d riving wheel or wh eels ( if the veh icle is
eq uipped w ith all whee l dr ive*) . T his func tion is
no t a vailable at hig her s pee ds .

In extreme cases, ED L automat ica lly swi tches off
to keep the b rake o n the bra ked whee l from over ­
h eating. The ve hicle is still wo rking co rrect ly. ED L
will switc h on again automatically when condi­
tions have returned to normal.
Power steering
The ESC can also support veh icle sta bility
th ro ugh stee ring .
Selective wheel torque control
Selective w heel to rque cont rol is used when driv­
in g on curves. The fron t whee l on the in side of
t h e curve or both whee ls on t he i nsid e of the
cu rve are braked se lective ly as needed. This al ­
l ows mo re precise driving in cu rves .
Automatic post-collision braking system
The "automat ic pos t-coll is io n braking syste m"
c a n help t o reduce t he risk of sliding and of addi ­
tion al collisions a fter an acc iden t. If the a irbag
contro l modu le detects a collision above a certa in
vehicle speed, the ve hicle is braked by the ESC.
The
ve hicle does not br ak e automatically if;
- t he dr ive r presses the acce lerato r pedal, or
- the ESC, the b ra ke system or the ve hicle elect ri-
cal sys tem are not func tioning .

where it may make sense to switch sport mode on in order to allow the wheels to spin:
- Rocking the vehicle to free it when it is stuck
- Dr iving in deep snow o r on loose g round

- The stabilization function is limited when
sport mode is switched on. The driving
wheels could spin and the vehicle could swerve, especially on slick or slippery road
surfaces .

Brake booster
The brake booster amplifies the pressu re yo u ap­
p ly to the brake pedal. It only operates while the
engine is running or when the ignition is switched
on (plug-in hybrid drive*) .
A WARNING
- Only apply the brakes for the purpose of
cleaning the brake system when road and
traff ic conditions permit. You must not en­
danger other road users. This increases the
r isk of an accident .
-
-Never let the vehicle roll while the engine is
stopped because this increases the risk of an
acc ident.
- Depend ing on the veh icle equipment, the
brake pedal may be pulled downward when
the vehicle automatically initiates b rak ing.
- Never place objects in the driver's footwell.
An object could end up in the area around
the pedals and prevent you from using
them. You wo uld not be able to use the ped­
als if sudden driving or braking mane uvers
were needed, which increases the risk of an
accident.
- Only use floor mats that do not obstruct the
area around the pedals and that can be se­
curely fastened in the footwe lls.
- T o reduce the risk of injury, do not place
your foot under the brake pedal.
(Llj) Note
-Never let the brakes "rub" by pressing the
pedal lightly when braking is not actually
necessary. This causes the brakes to over­
heat and increases braking distance and
causes wear.
- Before driving on a long stretch with steep
slopes, reduce your speed and shift to the
next lower gear This makes use of the en­
gine braking effect and relieves the brakes.
If you need to brake add it ionally, brake in
i ntervals and not cont inuously.

(D Tips
- If the brake booster is not working, you
must press the brake pedal with much more
force than normal.
- If you retrofit your vehicle with a front spoi l­
er, wheel covers or simi lar items, make sure
that the air flow to the front wheels is not
interrupted. Otherwise the brake system
can become too hot.
Electromechanical
steering
The electromechanical steering supports the
driver's steering movements.
Power steering adapts electronically based on
the ve hicle speed.
Indicator lights and messages
• Do not drive vehicle: steering defective
If this indicator light turns on and stays on and
th is message appears, the power steering may
have failed .
Stop the vehicle in a safe location as soon as pos­
s ible. Do
not cont inue driving. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility for
ass istance .
l;r-ij Steering: system fault! You can continue
driving
If the indicator light turns on, the steering wheel
may be more difficult to move or more sensitive
than usual. The steering whee l may also be at an
angle when driving straight.
Drive slowly to an authorized Audi dea ler or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility to have the mal­
function corrected.
(D Tips
If the. or 'Tij indicator light on ly stays on
for a short time, you may continue driving .

0 A bar graph appears when a direction arrow
is displayed . The fewer bars are shown, the
shorter the distance is until the turn.
The following functions are also available when
route guidance is active:

-Repeating the last navigation prompt: press
the
QJ button.
- Changing the voice guidance volume: turn the
right thumbwheel up or down during voice
guidance.
A WARNING
The route calculated by the navigation system
is a recommendation for reaching your desti­
nation. Obey traffic lights, stopping restric­
tions, one-way streets, lane change restric­
tions, etc.

-An exclamation point "!" in front of the
street name ind icates that the information
about this street or this sect ion of the route
is not complete in the navigat ion data con­

Speak louder when driving faster .

Close the doors, the windows and the sunroof* to reduce background noise . Make sure t hat passen ­
gers are not speaking when you are giving a voice
command.
Do not direct the vents toward the hands -free mi ­
crophone, which is in the roof headliner near the
front interior lights.

Locat ion and personal data are transmitted when

do not want this information to be transm itted,
activate data p rivacy .
-Acti vate pri vacy: the data connection is switch ­
ed off. Some Audi connect Infotainment serv ­
ices are not available.
- Deacti vate data priv acy : if the data connection
is switched off, you can switch on the data con ­
nect ion for the use of all Audi connect Infota in­

Wi-Fi hotspot
A ppl ies to: ve hicles with Wi-F i hotspot
You can use the MMI as a Wi-Fi hotspot to con­
nect up to eight Wi-Fi devices to the Internet.
While driving, restricted use of unsecured, light,
small wireless devi ces is only possible from the
rear of the vehicle.
Requirement: the ign ition must be switched on.

Wi-Fi
The MM I Wi -Fi hotspot is deactivated at the fac ­
tory. Switch the Wi-Fi hotspot to

- On : the MMI Wi -Fi hotspot is active and visib le
to ot her devices. You can connect your Wi -Fi
device to the MMI and use the Internet connec­
t ion if necessary.
Audi conn ect (Inf otainment )
-Off : the M MI Wi-Fi hotspot is deactivated. An
Internet connection for Wi -Fi devices is not
possible .
A WARNING

- To reduce the r isk of an accident, use the
Aud i connect Infotainment services with a
W i- F i hotspot only in the rear seat when the
ve hicle is in mot io n, or only when the vehi­
cle is stat ionary .
- It is o nly safe to use tablets, laptops, mo ­
b ile dev ices and other sim ilar devices when
the vehicle is stat ionary because, li ke all
loose objects, they co uld b e thrown around
t he inside o f th e ve hicl e in a c rash and ca use
serio us inj uries . Store these types of devices
secure ly while driving .
- D o not use any wireless dev ices on the front
seats within range of the airbags whi le driv ­
ing . A lso read the warnings in the chapter
¢ page 2 73, Front airbags .
-As the driver, do not allow usage of the Wi ­
F i hotspot to distract yo u from driving, as
this cou ld increase the r isk of an accident.

- Under some conditions, ce rtain mobile devi ­
ces and operating systems may automati ­
cally switch from your vehicle's Wi -Fi hot­
spot to the device's mobi le data connection.
In that event, standa rd text and data usage
rates would apply wh ile the device's mobile
data connect ion is in use. Please refer to
documentation prov ided by your mob ile de­
vice's manufacture a nd you r data carrier for
details , rela ted te rms an d pr iva cy sta te ­

To use Audi connect e-tron services 1), please
note the following:
Requirements
-An authorized Audi dealer must complete a
one-time activation of Audi connect e-tron serv­
i ces for your veh icle before you can reg ister on­
line .
- Then register at etron.audiusa .com . You can
use and manage the Audi connect e-tron serv­
ices there .
- If you require assistance w ith your Aud i connect
e-tron services, please contact an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility.
- Your mobile devices must be compatible .
1> The mob ile network service is offered by a serv ice provid­
e r. Yo u can obtain more informa tion abou t your mobile
network provider at an au th or ized Aud i dealer. Connected
dev ices are not always 4G-compatible. Th e ava ilability o f a

Audi connect e-tron services
Trip data
Applies to: vehicles with Audi connect e-tron services
The Driver Information System collects data un­
der certain conditions and sends it to a server.
When data is stored, you can access values such
as these using the service:
- driving durat ion,
- average speed driven,
- distance driven,
- average electric consumption.
Doors and lights
Applies to: vehicles with Audi connect e-tron services
You can access and disp lay the current status of
the following vehicle data on your mobile devices
without having to be inside the vehicle.
- If the vehicle doors and lids are open/closed,
- Parking lights are on/off.
For additional information on opening and clos­
i ng the doors or for the vehicle lighting, refer to
¢ page 31, Opening and closing or to ¢ page 49,
Exterior lighting.
(D Tips
-If the high-voltage battery is not charged,
the amount of access requests is limited to
15 after switching off the ignition. This
helps conserve the 12 vo lt vehicle battery.
You cannot contro l functions or access in­
formation if the charge leve l of the 12 volt
vehicle battery is too low.
- If at least two minutes have passed after
the last time the ignition was switched off,
you can reset the access counter back to "O" as needed after switch ing the ignit ion on/
off again.

You can access various vehicle statuses using the

The vehicle collects data under certain conditions
and sends it to a server .
When data is stored, you can access values such
as these us ing the service:
- Vehicle location disp lay,
- Display of one's own location,
- Ro ute to your veh icle.
If your mobile device also has a nav igation func­
tion, you can navigate to your last know n parking
locat ion.
@ Tips
- The new parking location cannot be deter­
mined with this service if the vehicle is
moved after shutt ing the veh icle
off and
wi thout sw itching the ign ition on and
off
again, for example when be ing towed o r if
the vehicle is stolen .
- If the vehicle is moved an d shut
off again

parking location is t ransmitted to the server
after switching the ignition off .

Charging

You can control and access the hig h-voltage bat ­
tery c harging proc ess r emotely using these serv ­
i ces. You have the following options:
- check the battery charge leve l,
- star t/end t he cha rging process,
- prog ram the charging t imer with/w itho ut cl i-
mate cont rol,
- deactivate/activate the cha rg in g timer .

You can contro l the climate control in your vehi­
cle remotely using these services:
- start/end climate control ,
- program the timer,
