Removing the rectangular headlightcover
Most of the bulbs in the headlight housing canbe accessed when the rectangular cover hasbeen removed.
Before the rectangular cover can be removed, theplastic covering must be removed, see the article"Replacing bulbs" for information.
1. Loosen the cover's four screws with a T20Torx screwdriver (1) but do not remove themcompletely (turning them 3–4 turns isenough).
2.Push the cover to the side.
3. Remove the cover.
Put the cover back in place in the reverse order.
4Must be replaced by a trained and qualified Volvo service technician.

Opening and closing the hood
The hood is opened by releasing it from the pas-senger compartment and then by using the han-dle under the front edge of the hood.

Opening
With the hood completely closed, pull thecontrol (located to the left of the brakepedal).
Turn the handle under the front edge of thehood counterclockwise to release it from thelock and lift.

Warning–hood not closed
When the hood lock has been com-pletely released, this symbol and agraphic will illuminate in the instrumentpanel and an audible signal will begiven. If the vehicle begins to roll, the audible sig-nal will be repeated several times.

NOTE
If the warning symbol remains on or if theaudible signal is given even if the hood iscompletely closed and locked, consult atrained and qualified Volvo service technician.
Closing
1. Press down the hood until it begins to closedue to its own weight.
2. When the handle under the front edge of thehood is in the lock, press down on the hoodto close it completely.

WARNING
•Be sure the hood is completely unob-structed while it is being closed.
•Check that the hood locks properly whenclosed. It must audibly lock on both sides.
•Never drive if the hood is not completelyclosed and locked.
•While driving, if there are any indicationsthat the hood is not locked in the closedposition, stop safely as soon as possibleand close it completely.

CAUTION
When using an automatic car wash in whichthe vehicle has to be able to roll freely, theauto-hold brake function must be deactivated.If this is not done, the brakes will automati-cally be applied when the vehicle is stationary.
To deactivate this function:
1.Drive the vehicle into the car wash
2. Turn off the auto-hold function using thecontrol on the center console
3. Turn off the parking brake's automaticfunction in the center display's Top view
(tap Settings, tap My CarElectricParking Brake and deselect AutoActivate Parking Brake)
4.Put the gear selector in N
5.Switch off the ignition by turning the startknob to STOP and holding it in this posi-tion for at least 4 seconds
The vehicle will then be able to roll freely.
CAUTION
•Before driving into an automatic carwash, turn off the optional rain sensor toavoid damaging the windshield wipers.
•Make sure that side view mirrors, auxiliarylamps, etc, are secure, and that anyantenna(s) are retracted or removed. Oth-erwise there is risk of the machine dis-lodging them.
•Chromed wheels: Clean chrome-platedwheels using the same detergents usedfor the body of the vehicle. Aggressivewheel-cleaning agents can permanentlystain chrome-plated wheels.

WARNING
•When the vehicle is driven immediatelyafter being washed, apply the brakes,including the parking brake, several timesin order to remove any moisture from thebrake linings.
•Engine cleaning agents should not beused when the engine is warm. This con-stitutes a fire risk.

Exterior components
Volvo recommends the use of special cleaningproducts, available at your Volvo retailer, forcleaning colored plastic, rubber, or ornamentalcomponents such as chromed strips on the exte-
rior of your vehicle. The instructions for usingthese products should be followed carefully. Sol-vents or stain removers should not be used.
CAUTION
•Avoid waxing or polishing plastic or rub-ber components
•Polishing chromed strips can wear awayor damage the surface
•Polishes containing abrasive substancesshould not be used

2. Finish by rubbing the wheel with absorbentpaper or a towel.
Type 3 (dry soil or dust)
1. Remove the soil/dust with a soft brush.
2. Same procedure as for type I stains.

CAUTION
Sharp objects, such as rings, could damagethe leather on the steering wheel.

Leather panels *
Leather should be allowed to breath. Never coverthe upper side of the dashboard or door panelswith a plastic protector. Ask your Volvo retailerabout Leather Care Kit 951 0251 and LeatherSoftener 943 7429.

Spots on interior plastic, metal, or wood
surfaces
Cleaning interior plastic components should bedone with a moist microfiber cloth. Consult yourVolvo retailer.
CAUTION
•Do not use cleaning agents with highalcohol content such as washer fluid toclean instrument panel glass.
•Never spray cleaning agents or waterdirectly onto components with electricalbuttons or controls. Clean components ofthis type by applying the cleaning agent/water sparingly to a cloth and wiping thecomponents so that no liquid penetratesinto these components.

Cleaning the seat belts
Clean only with lukewarm water and a mild soapsolution.

Cleaning floor mats
The floor mats should be vacuumed or brushedclean regularly, especially during winter whenthey should be taken out for drying. Spots on tex-tile mats can be removed with a mild detergent.For best protection in winter, Volvo recommendsthe use of Volvo rubber floor mats. Consult yourVolvo retailer.
WARNING
•Never use more than one floor mat at atime on the driver's floor. Before driving,remove the original mat from the driver'sseat floor before using any other type offloor mat. Any mat used in this positionshould be securely and properly anchoredin the attaching pins. An extra mat on thedriver's floor can cause the acceleratorand/or brake pedal to catch. Check thatthe movement of these pedals is notimpeded.
•Volvo's floor mats are specially manufac-tured for your car. They must be firmlysecured in the clips on the floor so thatthey cannot slide and become trappedunder the pedals on the driver's side.

Brake fluid specification and volume
Brake fluid transfers braking force when thebrake pedal is depressed to the master cylinderand to the slave cylinders on each wheel.
Topping up or replacing brake fluid should onlybe done by a trained and qualified Volvo servicetechnician.
