Motors Corporation recommends using gaso- lines without MMT. Use of gasolines blended with MMT mayadversely affect performance, and cause the malfunction indicator on your instrument panel to come on. If this happens, contact anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your
choice for assistance.

occur, you are advised to add a detergent additive to the gasoline when you refuel thevehicle. The additive

its, thereby returning the engine to a normal condition. Be sure
to use a Mitsubishi
Motors Genuine cleani
ng additive. Using an

oderate speeds during
the break-in period.  Avoid revving the engine.  Avoid rough driving such as sudden starts, sudden accelerati
on, prolonged high-
speed driving and sudden braking. These actions would have a detrimental effect onthe engine and lead to increased fuel and oil consumption; th

result in the malfunction of engine com-ponents. Be particularly careful to avoid full acceleration while in low shift posi- tion (low gears). Do not overload the vehicle.  The operation mode can be in any mode to start the engine. The starter motor will be turning for up to approximately 15 seconds if the engine switch is released at once. Pressing the engine switch again while the starter motor is still turning will stop the startermotor. The starter motor will be turning for up to approximately 30 seconds while theengine switch
is pressed.
If the engine does not start, wait for a while and then attempt to start the engineagain. Trying repeatedly with the engine or starter motor still turning will damage the starter mechanism. If the engine will not start because the bat- tery is weak or discharged, refer to “Jump-starting the engine” on page 8-2for instructions.  A longer warm up period will only con- sume extra fuel. The engine is warmed up enough for driv- ing when the bar graph of engine coolanttemperature display starts to move or the low coolant temperature indicator goes out. Refer to “Engine
coolant temperature
display” on page 5-171 or “Low coolant temperature indica
tor” on page 5-215.

will automatically shift to a lower gear toachieve stronger engine braking. This may help reduce your need to use the service brake.

ty precaution, models
equipped with an automatic transaxle have a shift-lock device that holds the selector leverin the “P” (PARK) position. To move the selector lever from the “P” (PARK) position to another position, follow the steps below. 1. Press and hold the brake pedal down. 2. Move the selector lever to the desired position.
The transaxle has 6 forward gears and 1 reverse gear.The individual gears are selected automati- cally, depending on the position of the gear selector lever, the speed of the vehicle and theposition of the accelerator pedal.
