Your vehicle is equipped with an electroni- cally controlled fuel injection system. This isa system that automatically controls fuel injection. There is no need to depress the accelerator pedal when starting the engine.The starter motor should not be run for more than 15 seconds at a time. To prevent battery drain, wait a few secondsbetween attempts to restart the engine. 1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened. 2. Make sure the parking brake is applied. 3. Press and hold the brake pedal downfirmly with your right foot. 4. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the way down (manual transaxle). 5. On vehicles with manual transaxle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position.On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT) make sure the selec- tor lever is in the “P” (PARK) position.
6. While pushing the ignition switch from “LOCK” (PUSH OFF) to “LOCK” (PUSH ON), set the ignition switch to the“ON” position and confirm that all warn-ing lights and warning displays are oper- ating properly. 7. Without pressing the accelerator pedal,slowly turn the ignition switch to the “START” position to start the engine. Release the ignition switch when theengine starts.
After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start.

 Discs that have not been finalized cannot be played back.  Even if recorded using the correct format on a recorder or computer, applicationsoftware settings and environments; disc peculiarities, damage, or marking; or dirt or condensation on the lens inside theproduct may render the disc unplayable.  Depending on the disc, some functions may not be used, or the disc may not playback. Do not use discs with cracks or warps.  If the disc has stickers affixed, remains from removed stickers, or affixed adhe-sive, then do not use the disc.  Discs that have decorative labels or stick- ers may not be used.
This product will play back audio CDs, how- ever please be aware of
the following points
regarding CD standards.  Ensure that you use discs with on the label surface.  Playback of other than standard CDs is not guaranteed. Even if the audio can be played back, the audio quality cannot be guaranteed. When playing back other than standard CDs, the following may occur.
• There may be noise during playback. • There may be jumping in the audio. • The disc may not be recognized. • The first track may not be played back.• It may take longer than usual until start of playback of tracks. • Playback may start from within thetrack. • Some parts may not be played back. • Tracks may freeze during playback.• Tracks may be displayed erroneously.

If your vehicle breaks down on the road, move to the shoulder and turn on the hazardwarning flashers. If there is no shoulder, or the shoulder is not safe, drive in the right lane slowly, with the hazard lights flashing, untilyou come to a safe stopping place. Keep the flashers flashing. If the engine stops, there will be no power assist to the steering and brakes, making these difficult to use.  The brake booster will not work, so the brakes will not grip well. The brake pedalwill be harder to press than usual.  Since there is no power steering assist, the steering wheel will be hard to turn.

If the engine cannot be started because the battery is weak or dead, you can start it withthe battery from another vehicle using jumper cables. 1. Take off any metal jewelry such as watch bands or bracelets that might make an accidental electrical contact. 2. Position the vehicles close enough together so that the jumper cables can reach, but be sure the vehicles aren’ttouching each other.
3. You could be injured if the vehicles move. Set the parking brake firmly on each vehi-cle. Put an automatic transaxle, CVT in “P” (PARK) or a manual transaxle in “N” (Neutral). Turn the ignition key to the“LOCK” position. 4. Make sure your battery electrolyte is at the proper level. (Refer to “Checking bat- tery electrolyte level” on page 9-12.)

Jump-starting the engine
WA R N I N G When using jumper cables to start a vehi- cle, follow the procedures and be very cau- tious. CAUTION Do not try to start your vehicle by pushing or towing. Vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT) cannot be started this way. Pushing or towing a vehicle that has amanual transaxle may overheat and damage the catalytic converter. Also, there is more risk of an accident when a vehicle is beingpushed or towed.
CAUTION Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12- volt battery. If the other system isn’t 12-volt, both systems can be damaged.WA R N I N G Turn the ignition key to the “LOCK” posi- tion on both vehicles. Make sure that thecables or your clothes cannot be caught by the fan or drive belt. Personal injury could result. NOTE
 Turn off all lights, heater, and other electrical loads. This will avoid sparks and help save both batteries.

5. Connect one end of one jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery (A), and the other end to the posi- tive (+) terminal of the booster battery(B).
6. Connect one end of the other jumper cable to the negative (-) terminal of the boosterbattery (B), and the other end to theengine block of the vehicle with the low battery (A) at the point farthest from the battery.
7. Start the engine in the vehicle providing the boost. Let the engine idle a few min-utes, then start the engine in the vehicle with the low battery. 8. After the engine is started, disconnect the cables in the reverse order from the way you connected them.
WA R N I N G If the electrolyte fluid is not visible, or looks frozen, DO NOT ATTEMPT JUMP STARTING!! The battery might split open or explode if the temperature is below the freezingpoint or if it is not filled to the proper level. NOTE
 Open the terminal cover before connecting the jumper cable to the positive terminal of the battery. (Refer to “Disconnection and connection” onpage 9-13.)
 Use the proper cables suitable for the battery size. Otherwise heat damage to the cables could result.  Check the jumper cables for damage and cor- rosion before use.WA R N I N G Be sure to follow the proper order when connecting the batteries, of: 

Make sure that the connection is made to the engine properly. If the connection is directly made to the negative side of the battery, the flammable gases from insidethe battery might catch fire and explode, causing personal injury.  When connecting the jumper cable, do not connect the positive (+) cable to the nega- tive (-) terminal. Otherwise sparks canmake the battery explode.NOTE
CAUTION Make sure that the jumper cable will not be caught in the cooling fan or other moving parts in the engine compartment.NOTE
 If the engine is started with the air duct removed, the noise produced as air is drawn into the engine will be greater than when theduct is installed.WA R N I N G Charging your battery while it is still in your vehicle might cause the battery to catch fire and explode. If you have to charge it while in the vehicle, disconnectthe negative terminal.  Keep sparks, cigarettes and flames away from the battery because the battery may explode. Keep your work area well vented when charging or using the battery in an enclosed space.

If you drive your vehicle with a low battery charge, after the engine has been started by using jumper cables, the engine may misfire. This can cause the anti-lock braking systemwarning light to blink on and off. This is only due to the low battery voltage. It is not a problem with the brake system. If this hap-pens, fully charge the battery and ensure the charging system is operating properly.

When the engine has overheated, the infor- mation screen in the multi-information dis-play will be interrupted and the engine coolant temperature warning display will appear. The screen will then change to theengine coolant temperature display screen and “ ” will flash. If this happens: 1. Stop the vehicle in a safe place. Turn on the hazard warning flashers. 2. With the engine still running, carefullyraise the engine hood to vent the engine compartment. 3. Check that the cooling fan is running. Ifthe fan is not turning, stop the engine immediately and contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice for assistance. 4. If you see steam or spray coming from under the hood, turn off the engine.
5. If you do not see steam or spray coming from under the hood, leave the engine on until the bar graph for the engine coolant temperature warning display on the multi-information display goes down. When it is in the middle of the normal zone, you can start driving again. If the bar graphstays in the red zone, turn off the engine. 6. When you do not see any more steam or spray, open the hood. Look for obvious leaks, such as a split radiator hose. Be careful as components will be hot. Anyleak source must be repaired. 7. If there is no obvious leak source, check the coolant level in the reserve tank. Ifthere is none, or if it is too low, slowly add coolant. 8. If the reserve tank needs coolant, you willprobably also need to add coolant to the radiator. Do not loosen or remove the radiator cap until the engine has cooleddown.
 Remove all the caps before charging the battery.  Electrolyte (battery acid) is corrosive diluted sulphuric acid. If electrolyte comesin contact with your hands, eyes, clothes, or the painted surface of your vehicle, thoroughly flush with water. If electrolytegets in your eyes, flush them immediately and thoroughly with water, and get prompt medical attention. Always wear protective clothing and gog- gles when working near the battery. Keep the battery out of the reach of chil- dren.
