Switches and Controls
Headlight High-Low Beam
The headlights switch between high and
low beams by moving the lever forward or
backward.

High beam
Low beam

When the headlight high-beams are on,
the headlight high-beam indicator light is
turned on.



Flashing the Headlights
Can be used when the ignition is switched
ON.
To fl ash the headlights, pull the lever fully
towards you (the headlight switch does not
need to be on).


OFF
Headlight

The headlight high-beam indicator light
in the instrument cluster illuminates
simultaneously. The lever will return to the
normal position when released.

Fog Lights *
The fog lights can be turned on with the
ignition switched ON and the headlights
turned on.
Use this switch to turn on the fog lights.
The fog lights will improve visibility at
night and during foggy conditions.
The fog lights turn on when the fog light
switch is turned to the
position and turn
off when the switch is turned to the

position.

NOTE
The fog lights will turn off when the
headlights are set at high beams.

Turn and Lane-Change
Signals
The ignition must be switched ON to use
the turn and lane-change signals.
Turn Signals
Move the signal lever down (for a left
turn) or up (for a right turn) to the stop
position. The signal will self-cancel after
the turn is completed.

If the indicator light continues to fl ash
after a turn, manually return the lever to its
original position.

Right lane change
Left lane change OFF

The turn signal indicators in the instrument
cluster fl ash according to the operation of
the turn signal lever to show which signal
is working.



NOTE
  If an indicator light stays on without
fl ashing or if it fl ashes abnormally, one
of the turn signal bulbs may be burned
out.
   A personalized function is available to
change the turn indicator sound volume.

Horn
To sound the horn, press the mark on
the steering wheel.
Hazard Warning Flasher
The hazard warning lights should always
be used when you stop on or near a
roadway in an emergency.



The hazard warning lights warn other
drivers that your vehicle is a traf fi c hazard
and that they must take extreme caution
when near it.



Depress the hazard warning fl asher and
all the turn signals will fl ash. The hazard
warning indicator lights in the instrument
cluster fl ash simultaneously.
NOTE
  The turn signals do not work when the
hazard warning lights are on.
  Check local regulations about the use of
hazard warning lights while the vehicle
is being towed to verify that it is not in
violation of the law.

  An operation sound occurs when
applying or releasing the electric
parking brake (EPB), however, this does
not indicate a malfunction.
  If the electric parking brake (EPB) is
not used for long periods, an automatic
inspection of the system is performed
while the vehicle is parked. An
operation sound can be heard, however,
this does not indicate a problem.
  When the electric parking brake (EPB)
is applied and the ignition is switched
OFF, an operation sound can be heard,
however, this does not indicate a
problem.
  The brake pedal may move while the
electric parking brake (EPB) is being
applied or released, however, this does
not indicate a problem.
  If the electric parking brake (EPB)
switch is continually pulled while
driving the vehicle, the electric parking
brake (EPB) will be applied and the
electric parking brake (EPB) warning
beep will be activated. When the switch
is released, the electric parking brake
(EPB) is released and the beep stops.
  If the electric parking brake (EPB) is
applied with the ignition switched off
or in ACC, the electric parking brake
(EPB) indicator light in the instrument
cluster and the indicator light in the
switch may turn on for 15 seconds.
  When running the vehicle through an
automatic car wash, it may be necessary
to switch the ignition off with the
parking brake released depending on
the type of automatic car wash.

When applying the electric parking
brake (EPB)
The electric parking brake (EPB) can be
applied regardless of the ignition switch
position.
Securely depress the brake pedal and
pull up the electric parking brake (EPB)
switch.
The electric parking brake (EPB) is
applied and the electric parking brake
(EPB) indicator light and the electric
parking brake (EPB) switch indicator light
turn on.

brake (EPB)
The electric parking brake (EPB) can be
released while the ignition is switched
ON or the engine is running. When the
electric parking brake (EPB) is released,
the electric parking brake (EPB) indicator
light and the electric parking brake (EPB)
switch indicator light turn off.

Securely depress the brake pedal and press
down the electric parking brake (EPB)
switch.

Firmly depress the brake pedal and press
the electric parking brake (EPB) switch.
If the electric parking brake (EPB) switch
is pressed without depressing the brake
pedal, the display or indicator light in the
instrument cluster noti fi es the driver that
the brake is not depressed.
(Type A instrument cluster)
A message is displayed on the multi-
information display in the instrument
cluster.
Refer to Message Indicated in Multi-
information Display on page 7-35 . (Type B instrument cluster)
The brake pedal operation demand

electric parking brake (EPB) automatic
release
If the accelerator pedal is depressed with
the electric parking brake (EPB) applied
and all of the following conditions met, the
parking brake is released automatically.
   The engine is running.  The driver's door is closed.  The driver's seat belt is fastened.
(Manual transaxle)   The change lever is in a position other
than neutral.
   The clutch pedal is depressed halfway
(Automatic transaxle)   Selector lever is in the D, M, or R
position

NOTE
If something such as the driver's foot
contacts the accelerator pedal with the
engine running and the electric parking
brake (EPB) applied, the parking brake
may be released automatically. If you
do not intend to drive immediately, shift
the change lever (manual transaxle) to
the neutral position, or shift the selector
lever (automatic transaxle) to the P or N
position.

CAUTION
If you stop operating the accelerator pedal before the vehicle starts moving, the force
holding the vehicle in the stopped position may weaken. Firmly depress the brake pedal
or depress the accelerator pedal to accelerate the vehicle.

NOTE
  Under the following conditions, a problem with the AUTOHOLD is occurring. Have your
vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.
  The brake pedal operation request warning light (red) in the instrument cluster fl ashes
and the warning sound is activated for about fi ve seconds while the AUTOHOLD is
operating or when you press the AUTOHOLD switch.
   A message is indicated on the multi-information display and a warning sou\
nd is
activated for about fi ve seconds while the AUTOHOLD is operating or when your
press the AUTOHOLD switch.
   If the ignition is switched OFF while the AUTOHOLD is still operating, the electric
parking brake (EPB) is applied automatically shift lever is shifted to\
R.
  (Automatic transaxle vehicle)  The AUTOHOLD is canceled when the shift lever is shifted to R while the vehicle\
is on
level ground, or facing up a hill or grade (as shown below).

AUTOHOLD System is Turned On
Press the AUTOHOLD switch and when
the AUTOHOLD standby indicator light
turns on, the AUTOHOLD function turns
on.

NOTE
When all of the following conditions are
met, the AUTOHOLD standby indicator
light turns on when the AUTOHOLD
switch is pressed and the AUTOHOLD
function turns on.
  The ignition is switched ON (engine is
running).
  The driver's seat belt is fastened.  The driver's door is closed.  There is no problem with the
AUTOHOLD function.

To operate AUTOHOLD and hold the
brakes
1. Depress the brake pedal and bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
2. The AUTOHOLD active indicator light in the instrument cluster turns on and
the brakes are held.


3. The vehicle is held in its stopped position even with the brake pedal
released.

NOTE
When all of the following conditions are
met, the AUTOHOLD operates and the
brakes are held.
  The ignition is switched ON (engine is
running).
  The vehicle is stopped.  The brake pedal is being depressed.  The AUTOHOLD active indicator light
turns on.
  The accelerator pedal is not depressed.  The driver's seat belt is fastened.  The driver's door is closed.  There is no problem with the
AUTOHOLD function.
  The electric parking brake (EPB) is
released.
  There is no problem with the electric
parking brake (EPB) function.
  (Automatic transaxle vehicle)  The selector lever is in a position other
than R position or the vehicle tilts
forward with the selector lever in the R
position.

AUTOHOLD System is Turned Off
The vehicle is driven
Press the AUTOHOLD switch to turn off
the AUTOHOLD ( AUTOHOLD standby
indicator light turns off).

Depress the brake pedal and press the
AUTOHOLD switch to turn off the
AUTOHOLD (AUTOHOLD standby
indicator light and AUTOHOLD active
indicator light in instrument cluster turn

NOTE
  (Without multi-information display)  If the AUTOHOLD switch is pressed
without depressing the brake pedal
while the AUTOHOLD is operating
(AUTOHOLD active indicator light is
turned on), the brake pedal operation
request indicator light (green) in the
instrument cluster turns on to notify the
driver that it is necessary to depress the
brake pedal.

(Green)  (With multi-information display)  If the AUTOHOLD switch is pressed
without depressing the brake pedal
while AUTOHOLD is operating
(AUTOHOLD active indicator light
in instrument cluster is turned on),
the message Depress Brake Pedal to
Release Parking Brake is indicated on
the multi-information display to notify
the driver to depress the brake pedal.
  If any of the following conditions
occurs while the AUTOHOLD function
is operating (AUTOHOLD active
indicator light is turned on), the
electric parking brake (EPB) is applied
automatically and the AUTOHOLD
function turns off. For the electric
parking brake (EPB) operation, refer
to the electric parking brake (EPB) on
page 4-71 .
  The ignition is switched OFF.  There is a problem with the
AUTOHOLD function.
