Driving
RX350/RX200t_EE_OM48F32E
Washer/wiper dual operation
The wipers will automatically operate a
couple of times after the washer squirts.
Vehicles with headlight cleaners: When the engine switch is in IGNI-
TION ON mode and the headlights are on, if the lever is pulled, the headlightcleaners will operate once. After this,
the headlight cleaners will operate every 5th time the lever is pulled.
■The windshield wipers and washer can be operated when
The engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■Dripping prevention wiper sweep (vehicles with rain-sensing windshield wipers)
After washing and wiping operation severa l times, the wipers operate one more time after a short delay to prevent dripping. However, this function will not operate while driv- ing.
■Effects of vehicle speed on wiper operation
Vehicle speed affects the Intermittent wiper interval.
■Raindrop sensor (vehicles with rain-sensing windshield wipers)
●If the wiper switch is turned to the “AUTO” position while the engine switch is in IGNI-
TION ON mode, the wipers will operate on ce to show that AUTO mode is activated.
●When the sensor sensitivity ring is turned toward high while in “AUTO” position, the wipers will operate once to indicate th at the sensor sensitivity is enhanced.
●If the temperature of the raindrop sensor is 90C (194F) or higher, or -15C (5F) or lower, automatic operation may not occur. In this case, operate the wipers in any modeother than AUTO mode.
■If no windshield washer fluid sprays
Check that the washer nozzles are not blocked, if there is washer fluid in the washer fluid tank.
■Washer nozzle heaters (if equipped)
The washer nozzle heaters operate when the outside temperature is 5°C (41°F) or less
and the engine switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
8
●The raindrop sensor judges the amount of raindrops.
An optical sensor is adopted. It may not oper- ate properly when sunlight from the rising orsetting of the sun intermittently strikes the
windshield, or if bugs, etc. are present on the windshield.
2824-3. Operating the lights and wipers
RX350/RX200t_EE_OM48F32E
■Front door opening linked windshield wiper stop function (vehicles with rain-sensing windshield wipers)
When “AUTO” is selected and the windshield wipers are operating, if a front door is
opened, the operation of the windshield wipers will be stopped to prevent anyone near the vehicle from being sprayed by water from the wipers, provided the vehicle is stoppedwith the parking brake applied or the shift leve r in P. When the front door is closed, wiper
operation will resume.
■Customization
Some functions can be customized. ( P. 740)
WARNING
■Caution regarding the use of windshield wipers in AUTO mode (vehicles with rain-
sensing windshield wipers)
The windshield wipers may operate unexpectedly if the sensor is touched or the wind- shield is subject to vibration in AUTO mode. Take care that your fingers, etc. do not
become caught in th e windshield wipers.
■Caution regarding the use of washer fluid
When it is cold, do not use the washer fluid until the windshield becomes warm. The
fluid may freeze on the windshield and cause low visibility. This may lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
■When the washer nozzle heaters are operating (if equipped)
Do not touch the area around the washer no zzle heaters, as they can become very hot and burn you.
NOTICE
■When the windshield is dry
Do not use the wipers, as they may damage the windshield.
■When the washer fluid tank is empty
Do not operate the switch continually as the washer fluid pump may overheat.
■When a nozzle becomes blocked
In this case, contact any authorized Lexus de aler or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional.Do not try to clear it with a pin or other object. The nozzle will be damaged.

4-6. Driving tips
●Use fluids that are appropriate to the prevailing outside temperatures.
•Engine oil
• Engine coolant
• Washer fluid
●Have a service technician inspect the condition of the battery.
●Have the vehicle fitted with four snow tires or purchase a set of tire chains for
the front tires.
Ensure that all tires are of the specified size and the same brand, and that chains match the size of the tires.
Perform the following according to the driving conditions:
●Do not try to forcibly open a window or move a wiper that is frozen. Pour
warm water over the frozen area to melt the ice. Wipe away the water imme-
diately to prevent it from freezing.
●To ensure proper operation of the climate control system fan, remove any
snow that has accumulated on the air inlet vents in front of the windshield.
●Check for and remove any excess ice or snow that may have accumulated on
the exterior lights, vehicle’s roof, chassi s, around the tires or on the brakes.
●Remove any snow or mud from the bottom of your shoes before getting in the
vehicle.
Winter driving tips

cle in winter. Always drive the vehicle in a manner appropriate to the prevail-
ing weather conditions.
