Anti-Scan Feature
The keypad goes into an anti-scan modeif you enter the wrong code seven times.This mode turns off the keypad for oneminute and the keypad lamp flashes.
Anti-scan turns off after any of thefollowing occur:
•One minute of keypad inactivity.
•You press the unlock button on theremote control.
•You switch the ignition on.
•You unlock the vehicle using intelligentaccess.
Locking and Unlocking the Doors
Locking All Doors
Press and hold 7·8 and 9·0 on the keypadsimultaneously with the driver door closed.You do not need to enter a code first.
Unlocking Only the Driver Door
Enter the factory-set or your personalfive-digit code. You must press eachnumber within five seconds of each other.The interior lamps illuminate.
Note:All doors unlock if you switch on theall door unlocking mode. See Locking andUnlocking (page 58).
Unlocking All Doors
Enter the factory-set code or your personalcode, then press 3·4 on the keypad withinfive seconds.
Opening the Luggage Compartment
Enter the factory-set code or your personalcode, then press 3·4 on the keypad withinfive seconds.
Displaying the Factory-Set Code
Note:You need to have two programmedkeys for this procedure.
1. Remove the key blade from thetransmitter.
2. Remove the rubber covering (A) fromthe cup holder. With the buttons facingupward and the unlock button facingthe front of your vehicle, place the firstintelligent access key into the backupslot (B).
3. Press the push button ignition switchonce and wait a few seconds.
4. Press the push button ignition switchagain and remove the key.
5.Insert the second programmed key intothe backup slot, and then press thepush button ignition switch.
The factory-set code appears in theinformation display for a few seconds.
Note:The code may not display until afterany other warning messages first display.

WARNINGS
Do not leave children or animalsunattended in the vehicle. On hotdays, the temperature in the trunk orvehicle interior can rise very quickly.Exposure of people or animals to thesehigh temperatures for even a short timecan cause death or serious heat-relatedinjuries, including brain damage. Smallchildren are particularly at risk.
Your vehicle is equipped with a releasehandle that provides a means of escapefor children and adults if they becomelocked inside the luggage compartment.
Adults should familiarize themselves withthe operation and location of the releasehandle.
The handle is located inside the luggagecompartment either on the luggagecompartment door (lid) or near the taillamps. It is composed of a material thatwill glow for hours in darkness followingbrief exposure to ambient light.
Pull the handle and push up on the luggagecompartment door (lid) to open fromwithin the luggage compartment.

Stability Control
Flashes when the system isactive. If it stays lit or does notlight when you switch on theignition, this indicates a malfunction.During a malfunction the system willswitch off. Have an authorized dealercheck the system immediately. See UsingStability Control (page 181).
Stability Control Off
Lights when you switch thesystem off. It will go out whenyou switch the system back onor when you switch off the ignition. SeeUsing Stability Control (page 181).
Stop Safely
Lights if your vehicle has anelectrical component fault orfailure that will cause yourvehicle to shutdown or enter into a limitedoperating mode. You may also see amessage.
Trunk Ajar
Lights when the ignition is on andthe trunk is not completelyclosed.
Vehicle Plugged in (If Equipped)
Lights when the vehicle isplugged in. A correspondingmessage may display afterattempting to start the vehicle.

Keyless Warning Alert
The horn will sound twice when you exityour vehicle with the intelligent access keyand your vehicle is in RUN, indicating yourvehicle is still on.
Headlamps On Warning Chime
Sounds when you remove the key from theignition and open the driver's door and youhave left the headlamps or parking lampson.
Parking Brake On Warning Chime
Sounds when you have left the parkingbrake on and drive your vehicle. If thewarning chime remains on after you havereleased the parking brake, have thesystem checked by your authorized dealerimmediately.

Information Displays
Note:When you try to restart your vehicleafter a fuel shutoff, the vehicle makes surethat the electrical system is safe to restart.Once your vehicle determines that theelectrical system is safe, then the vehiclewill allow you to restart.

JUMP STARTING THE VEHICLE
WARNINGS
The gases around the battery canexplode if exposed to flames, sparks,or lit cigarettes. An explosion couldresult in injury or vehicle damage.
Batteries contain sulfuric acid whichcan burn skin, eyes and clothing, ifcontacted.
Do not attempt to push-start yourautomatic transmission vehicle. Automatictransmissions do not have push-startcapability. Attempting to push-start avehicle with an automatic transmissionmay cause transmission damage.
Preparing Your Vehicle
Note:Use only a 12-volt supply to start yourvehicle.
Note:Do not disconnect the battery of thedisabled vehicle as this could damage thevehicle's electrical system.
1. Park the booster vehicle close to thehood of the disabled vehicle makingsure the two vehicles do not touch. Setthe parking brake on both vehicles andstay clear of the engine cooling fan andother moving parts.
2.Check all battery terminals and removeany excessive corrosion before youattach the battery cables. Ensure thatvent caps are tight and level.
3.Turn the heater fan on in both vehiclesto protect from any electrical surges.Turn all other accessories off.
Connecting the Jumper Cables
Your vehicle has two battery prongs thatare accessible from under the hood, eventhough the actual battery is located in thetrunk. Your vehicle can be jumped thesame way conventional vehicles can beusing these prongs. The illustration belowshows the two connector prongs used forjump-starting your vehicle.

Crashes
A crash or impact significant enough torequire an emergency response forconventional vehicles would also requirethe same response for an electric orhybrid-electric vehicle.
If possible
•Move your car to a safe, nearbylocation and remain on the scene.
•Roll down the windows before shuttingyour vehicle off.
•Place your vehicle in Park, set theparking brake, turn off the vehicle,activate the hazard lights, and moveyour key(s) at least 16 feet (5 meters)away from the vehicle.
Always
•Call 911 if assistance is needed andadvise that an electric or hybrid-electricvehicle is involved.
•Do not touch exposed electricalcomponents or the enginecompartment, as a shock hazard mayexist.
•Avoid contact with leaking fluids andgases, and remain out of the way ofoncoming traffic until emergencyresponders arrive.
•When emergency responders arrive,tell them that the vehicle involved is anelectric vehicle or hybrid vehicle.
Fires
As with any vehicle, call 911 immediately ifyou see sparks, smoke or flames comingfrom the vehicle.
•Exit the vehicle immediately.
•Advise 911 that an electric orhybrid-electric vehicle is involved.
•As with any vehicle fire, do not inhalesmoke, vapors or gas from the vehicle,as they may be hazardous.
•Remain a safe distance from thevehicle and try to stay clear of thesmoke.
•Stay out of the roadway and stay outof the way of any oncoming trafficwhile awaiting the arrival of emergencyresponders.
Post-Incident
•Do not store a severely damagedvehicle with a lithium-ion battery insidea structure or within 50 feet (15meters) of any structure or vehicle.
•Make sure that passenger and cargocompartments remain ventilated (i.e.open window, door or trunk).
•For vehicles in the United States, notifyFord Motor Company 1-800-392-3673(then follow the prompts on the voiceresponse menu), an authorized Forddealer or service center as soon aspossible as there may be other stepsto secure and discharge thehigh-voltage battery.
•For vehicles in Canada, notify FordMotor Company 1-800-565-3673(then follow the prompts on the voiceresponse menu), an authorized Forddealer or service center as soon aspossible as there may be other stepsto secure and discharge thehigh-voltage battery.
•Call 911 if you observe leaking fluids,sparks, smoke or flames, or heargurgling or bubbling from thehigh-voltage battery.
