WINDSHIELD WIPERS
Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers.
Note:Make sure you switch off thewindshield wipers before entering a carwash.
Note:Clean the windshield and wiperblades if they begin to leave streaks orsmears. If that does not resolve the issue,install new wiper blades.
Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washers before wiping a drywindshield.
Rotate the end of the control:
•Away from you to increase the wiperspeed.
•Toward you to decrease the wiperspeed.
Speed dependent wipers (ifequipped)
When your vehicle speed increases, theinterval between wipes decreases.
AUTOWIPERS (If Equipped)
Note:Make sure you switch off the wipersbefore entering a car wash.
Note:Wet or winter driving conditions withice, snow or salty road mist can causeinconsistent and unexpected wiping orsmearing.
In these conditions, you can do thefollowing to help keep your windshieldclear:
•Lower the sensitivity of the autowipers.
•Change the wiper speed to normal orhigh-speed wipe as necessary.
•Switch the autowipers off.
The autowipers feature uses a rain sensor,located in the area around the interiormirror. The rain sensor monitors theamount of moisture on the windshield andautomatically turns on the wipers. It willadjust the wiper speed by the amount ofmoisture that the sensor detects on thewindshield. You can switch this feature onor off in the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 111).

Use the rotary control to adjust thesensitivity of the rain sensor. With lowsensitivity, the wipers will operate whenthe sensor detects a large amount ofmoisture on the windshield. With highsensitivity, the wipers will operate whenthe sensor detects a small amount ofmoisture on the windshield. Adjust therotary control toward the windshield toincrease the moisture sensitivity.
Keep the outside of the windshield cleanbecause the rain sensor is very sensitive. Ifthe area around the interior mirror is dirty,then the wipers may turn on, for example,if dirt, mist or insects hit the windshield.
The courtesy wipe feature turns on afterusing the windshield washers to removeany excess washer fluid and debris.
Note:You can adjust the courtesy wipesettings in the instrument cluster. SeeInformation Displays (page 111).
WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washer before wiping a drywindshield.
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
•A brief press causes a single wipewithout washer fluid.
•A brief press and hold causes thewipers to swipe three times withwasher fluid.
•A long press and hold will turn on thewipers and washer fluid for up to 10seconds.
A wipe will occur a few seconds afterwashing to clear any remaining washerfluid. You can switch this feature on or offin the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 111).

State or local regulations on volatileorganic compounds may restrict the useof methanol, a common windshield washerantifreeze additive. Washer fluidscontaining non-methanol antifreezeagents should be used only if they providecold weather protection without damagingthe vehicle’s paint finish, wiper blades orwasher system.
DRAINING THE FUEL FILTER
WATER TRAP - 6.7L DIESEL
WARNING
Do not dispose of fuel in thehousehold refuse or the publicsewage system. Use an authorizedwaste disposal facility.
Your vehicle has a diesel fuel conditionermodule. The module is mounted betweenthe outboard side of the fuel tank and theframe rail.
Note:The module is at the front of the fueltank or at the front of the aft-axle fuel tankon some models.
You should drain water from themodule assembly whenever thewarning light illuminates or amessage appears in the informationdisplay advising you to drain the waterseparator. This occurs when approximately6.76 fl oz (200 ml) of water accumulatesin the module. If you allow the water levelto exceed this level, the water may passthrough to the engine and may cause fuelinjection equipment damage.
Draining the Diesel FuelConditioner Module
1. Switch the engine off.
2. Access the underside of your vehicle.
3. The diesel fuel conditioner module ison the left-hand frame rail.

Make sure that you dispose of old batteriesin an environmentally friendly way. Seekadvice from your local authority aboutrecycling old batteries.
If storing your vehicle for more than 30days without recharging the battery, werecommend that you disconnect thebattery cables to maintain battery chargefor quick starting.
Battery Management System (If
Equipped)
The battery management system monitorsbattery conditions and takes actions toextend battery life. If excessive batterydrain is detected, the system temporarilydisables some electrical systems toprotect the battery.
Systems included are:
•Heated rear window.
•Heated seats.
•Climate control.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Audio unit.
•Navigation system.
A message may appear in the informationdisplays to alert you that batteryprotection actions are active. Thesemessages are only for notification that anaction is taking place, and not intended toindicate an electrical problem or that thebattery requires replacement.
After battery replacement, or in somecases after charging the battery with anexternal charger, the battery managementsystem requires eight hours of vehicle sleeptime to relearn the battery state of charge.During this time your vehicle must remainfully locked with the ignition switched off.
Note:Prior to relearning the battery stateof charge, the battery management systemmay temporarily disable some electricalsystems.
Electrical Accessory Installation
To make sure the battery managementsystem works correctly, do not connect anelectrical device ground connectiondirectly to the battery negative post. Thiscan cause inaccurate measurements ofthe battery condition and potentialincorrect system operation.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect battery performance and durability.This may also affect the performance ofother electrical systems in the vehicle.
CHECKING THE WIPER
BLADES
Run the tip of your fingers over the edge ofthe blade to check for roughness.
Clean the wiper blades with washer fluidor water applied with a soft sponge orcloth.
CHANGING THE WIPER
BLADES
You can manually move the wiper armswhen the ignition is off. This allows for easeof blade replacement and cleaning underthe blades.

1. Pull the wiper blade and arm awayfrom the glass.
2. Release the wiper blade lock (A) andseparate the wiper blade from thewiper arm.
3. Install in the reverse order.
Note:Make sure that the wiper blade locksinto place. Lower the wiper arm and bladeback on the windshield. The wiper arms willautomatically return to their normal positionwhen you turn the ignition on.
•Replace wiper blades at least once peryear for optimum performance.
•You can improve poor wiper quality bycleaning the wiper blades and thewindshield.
ADJUSTING THE HEADLAMPS
Vertical Aim Adjustment
The headlamps on your vehicle areproperly aimed at the assembly plant. Ifyour vehicle has been in an accident, thealignment of your headlamps should bechecked by your authorized dealer.

Note:To see a clearer light pattern foradjusting, you may want to block the lightfrom one headlamp while adjusting theother.

•Never wash or rinse any ignition coil,spark plug wire or spark plug well, orthe area in and around these locations.
•Cover the battery, power distributionbox, and air filter assembly to preventwater damage when cleaning theengine.
CLEANING THE EXHAUST -
6.7L DIESEL
WARNINGS
Failure to maintain the functionalholes, in the tailpipe section of theexhaust, clean and free of debris orforeign material may result in the holesbecoming blocked or plugged. Do notmodify or remove the tail-pipe section.Blocked or plugged holes orremoval/modification of the system couldresult in elevated exhaust gastemperatures which may result invehicle/property damage or personalinjury.
The normal operating temperatureof the exhaust system is very high.Never work around or attempt torepair any part of the exhaust system untilit has cooled. Use special care whenworking around the diesel oxidationcatalytic converter and/or the dieselparticulate filter (DPF). The dieseloxidation catalytic converter and/or theDPF heats up to a high temperature afteronly a short period of engine operation andcan stay hot even after the engine is turnedoff. Failure to follow these instructions mayresult in personal injury.
The visible holes in the exhaust tip and theholes under the shield just inboard of theright rear tire(s) are functional. The holesneed to be kept clear of mud/debris orforeign material to maintain properfunction of the exhaust system. Clean andremove debris or foreign material if presentas needed. Spraying with a hose duringregular washing of vehicle should helpkeep holes clean and clear of debris orforeign material.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS AND
WIPER BLADES
Car wash chemicals and environmentalfallout can result in windshield and wiperblade contamination. Dirty windshield andwipers will result in poor windshield wiperoperation. Keep the windshield and wiperblades clean to maintain windshield wiperperformance.
