Air distribution control: Press to switch airflow from the windshield, instrument panel, or footwell vents on or off. You can distribute air through anycombination of these vents.
D
Heated rear window: Press to switch the heated rear window on and off. SeeHeated Windows and Mirrors (page 112).E
A/C: Press to switch the air conditioning on or off. Air conditioning cools yourvehicle using outside air. Use A/C with recirculated air to improve performanceand efficiency.
F
Note: In certain conditions (for example, maximum defrost), the air conditioningcompressor may continue to operate even though the air conditioning isswitched off.
Passenger temperature control: Adjust the temperature setting on thepassenger side.G
Recirculated air: Press to switch between outside air and recirculated air. Theair currently in the passenger compartment recirculates. This may reduce thetime needed to cool the interior (when used with A/C) and reduce unwantedodors from entering your vehicle.

INTERIOR CLIMATE
General Hints
WARNING
Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up. If thewindows fog up, follow the settingsfor demisting the windshield.
Note:You may feel a small amount of airfrom the footwell air vents regardless of theair distribution setting.
Note:To reduce humidity build-up insideyour vehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated air alwaysswitched on.
Note:Do not place objects under the frontseats as this may interfere with the airflowto the rear seats.
Note:Remove any snow, ice or leaves fromthe air intake area at the base of thewindshield.
Note:To improve the time to reach acomfortable temperature in hot weather, drive with the windows open until you feelcold air through the air vents.
Note:Clean the inside glass surfacesregularly using recommended glass cleaner.Small dirt particles on the glass mayincrease the incidence of fog.
In mild weather, you can improve your fueleconomy when using the climate controlsystem by using outside air instead of airconditioning:
•Turn the temperature control knob sothe interior temperature is set to LO.
•Set the air distribution to instrumentpanel or floor (or both).
•Press A/C to turn the air conditioningoff.

CABIN AIR FILTER
The cabin air filter is under the instrumentpanel in the passenger footwell area.
The system filters airborne particles suchas dust, spores and pollen in the airsupplied to and recirculated in the interiorof your vehicle.
Make sure you have a cabin air filterinstalled at all times. Running the systemwithout a filter in place could degrade ordamage the system.
Your vehicle cabin air filter gives you andyour passengers the following benefits:
•It improves your driving comfort byreducing particle concentration.
•It improves the interior compartmentcleanliness.
•It protects the climate controlcomponents from particle deposits.
Change the air filter element at the properintervals.
For additional cabin air filter information,or to replace the filter, see an authorizeddealer.
REMOTE START (If Equipped)
You can switch this feature on or off andadjust the settings using the informationdisplay.
The system adjusts the interiortemperature depending on your chosensettings during remote start.
You cannot adjust the climate controlsetting during remote start operation. When you switch the ignition on, theclimate control system will return to theprevious settings. You can now makeadjustments.
You can switch on certainvehicle-dependent features when needed, such as:
•Heated seats.
•Cooled seats.
•Heated steering wheel.
•Heated mirrors.
•Heated rear window.
Automatic Settings
In hot weather, the system is set to 72°F(22°C). The cooled seats are set to high(if available, and selected to AUTO in theinformation display).
In moderate weather, the system eitherheats or cools (based on previoussettings). The rear defroster, heatedmirrors and heated or cooled seats do notautomatically turn on.
In cold weather, the system is set to 72°F(22°C). The heated seats are set to high(if available, and selected to AUTO in theinformation display). The heated rearwindow and heated mirrors automaticallyturn on.

•Keep the tires properly inflated andonly use the recommended size.
•Aggressive driving increases theamount of energy required to moveyour vehicle. In general, you canachieve better fuel economy with mildto moderate acceleration anddeceleration. Moderate braking isparticularly important since it allowsyou to maximize the energy capturedby the regenerative braking system.
Additional Tips:
•Do not carry extra loads.
•Be mindful of adding externalaccessories that may increaseaerodynamic drag.
•Observe posted speed limits.
•Perform all scheduled maintenance.
•There is no need to wait for your engineto warm up. The vehicle is ready todrive immediately after starting.
PLUG-IN HYBRID VEHICLE
OPERATION
Plug-in Power Mode and HybridMode
You must plug in your Energi vehicleregularly for optimal use of the highvoltage battery's extended rangecapability. Charging your vehicle addselectrical energy. This energy is used topropel the vehicle in plug-in power mode.
Estimated electric range is shown in bluenext to gasoline range at the bottom of theright information display. You can alsoconfigure MyView to include detailedvehicle range information. See Gauges(page 84).
The system maximizes the use ofelectric-only operation in plug-in powermode. System conditions may requireengine operation; however, the systemuses plug-in power whenever possible.
When your plug-in power is depleted, thepowertrain system will automaticallyswitch to hybrid mode. Hybrid mode usesboth the gasoline engine and electricmotor to power your vehicle and maximizefuel economy.
EV Modes
Your vehicle contains selectableEV modes through the EV buttonlocated on the center of theinstrument panel, below the climatecontrols.
These modes are available when yourvehicle can run under high voltage batterypower. With your vehicle in driving mode, you can change EV modes with each pressof the EV button. The current mode will bedisplayed in the left-hand instrumentcluster screen.
Auto EV
This mode provides anautomatic use of high voltagebattery power during the drive, staying in electric mode when possible andrunning the engine when needed. Thismode will be the only one available if theplug-in power has been depleted.
EV Now
This mode provides an electriconly driving experience. Theleft-hand information displaychanges to a screen displaying youraverage miles or kilometers per chargealong with EV specific tools and functions.

REFUELING
WARNINGS
Fuel vapor burns violently and a fuelfire can cause severe injuries.
Read and follow all the instructionson the pump island.
WARNINGS
When refueling always shut theengine off and never allow sparks oropen flames near the fuel tank fillervalve. Never smoke or use a cell phonewhile refueling. Fuel vapor is extremelyhazardous under certain conditions. Avoidinhaling excess fumes.
Stay outside your vehicle and do notleave the fuel pump unattendedwhen refueling your vehicle.
Keep children away from the fuelpump. Never let children pump fuel.
Wait at least 10 seconds beforeremoving the fuel pump nozzle toallow any residual fuel to drain intothe fuel tank.
Stop refueling after the fuel pumpnozzle automatically shuts off for thesecond time. Failure to follow thiswill fill the expansion space in the fuel tankand could lead to fuel overflowing.
Do not remove the fuel pump nozzlefrom its fully inserted position whenrefueling.
The fuel system may be underpressure. If you hear a hissing soundnear the fuel filler inlet, do not refueluntil the sound stops. Otherwise, fuel mayspray out, which could cause seriouspersonal injury.
Easy Fuel™ Capless System
Your vehicle has an auto-sealing featurethat locks the fuel tank refueling valve andthe fuel filler door. Before you can refuelyour vehicle, you must press the fuel fillerdoor release button on the instrumentpanel. Pressing the button unlocks the fueltank refueling valve and opens the fuelfiller door.
Note: It can take up to fifteen seconds forthe fuel filler door to open.
