Vehicle jack: Australian/New Zealand
standard AS/NZS 2693
2007 m "Vehicle jacks" contains following
warning note which BMW hereby adopts: r... no person should place any portion of their body
under a vehicle that is supported by a jack'.
The jack supplied with your vehicle should not
be used for any purpose other than wheel
changing and should never be used in conj
junction with a vehicle support stand. Raising the vehicle for the purpose of inspection
should only be performed in a controlled workj
shop environment on a hoist by trained perj
sonnel.
The following warning instructions from standj
ard AS/NZS 2693:2007 are repeated here: the jack should be used on level firm ground wherj
ever possible. It is recommended that the
wheels of the vehicle be chocked, and that no
person should remain in a vehicle that is being
jacked.
The jack of your BMW is maintenance-free.
Please observe the information marked on the
jack.'

'yWheel stud, arrow 1.'yAdapter, arrow 2.
Removing
1.Place the adapter on the wheel stud.2.Unscrew wheel stud.
After reattaching the wheel stud, remove the
adapter again.
Preparing
the
vehicle
'yChange the wheel as far away from flowing traffic as possible.'yPark the vehicle on firm, non-slip and level
ground.'ySwitch on hazard warning lights.'yApply the parking brake.'yEngage a gear or select selector lever posij
tion P.'yAs soon as the traffic permits, get all occuj
pants to leave the vehicle and stand outj side the danger area, such as behind the
crash barriers.'yDepending on the equipment, take the tools and Emergency wheel out of the vej
hicle.'yIf applicable, set up warning triangle at the
correct distance or switch on hazard warnj
ing lights.'yDo not put any wooden blocks or similar
underneath the jack, otherwise it cannot
reach its carrying capacity due to the rej
stricted height.'yAdditionally protect the vehicle against rolling away.'yUndo the wheel studs by half a turn.
Jack

points
The jacking points are located in the marked
positions.

Raising
vehicleWARNING
Your hands or fingers could get trapped
when using the jack. Danger of injury. Keep your hands in the described position when usjing the jack, and do not change this position.'

3.Tighten the remaining wheel studs untilfinger-tight and then tighten all the studscrosswise.4.Turn the crank on the jack anticlockwise to
retract the jack and lower the vehicle.5.Remove the jack.
After
changing
the
wheel
1.Tighten the wheel studs crosswise. The
tightening torque is 140 Nm, approxij mately 101 lb ft.2.Stow the faulty wheel in the boot.
Due to its size, the faulty wheel cannot be
accommodated under the boot floor.3.Check tyre inflation pressure at the next
opportunity and correct as necessary.4.Reinitialise runflat indicator.
Reset Tyre Pressure Monitor.5.Check the tight fit of the wheel studs using
a calibrated torque wrench.6.Drive to the nearest Service Partner of the
manufacturer, another qualified Service Partner or a specialist workshop to have
the damaged tyre renewed.
Emergency
wheel
General
In case of a flat tyre, the Emergency wheel can
be used as a replacement for the defective tyre. The Emergency wheel is intended for
temporary use as a replacement for the defecj
tive wheel.
Safety
note WARNING
The emergency wheel has special dij
mensions. When driving with an emergency wheel, the driving properties may change athigher speeds, for example reduced directional
stability when braking, longer braking distance
and modified self-steering behaviour in the
limit range. Danger of accidents. Drive with care and do not exceed a speed of 80 km/h,50 mph.'

Closing
bonnet
Let the bonnet fall from approximately 40 cm,
16 in and then push down to fully lock the bonj net.
The bonnet must engage into place on both
sides.

General
The engine oil consumption depends on the
driving style and operating conditions.
Engine oil consumption can be increased, for
example, in the following situations:'yDynamic driving style.'yRunning in the engine.'yEngine idling.'yUse of engine oil grades categorised as
unsuitable.
Therefore check the engine oil level regularly each time you fill up with fuel.
With dynamic driving, for example, rapid corj nering, the system cannot make any oil measj
urement. With this driving mode, the engine oil
is measured using a detailed measurement, see page 233.
The vehicle has electronic oil measurement.
Electronic oil measurement has two measurej
ment principles:

Status
display
Principle
The engine oil level is electronically monitored
during the journey and shown on the Control
Display.
If the engine oil level reaches the minimum, a Check Control message is shown.
Functional
requirements
A current measurement is available after apj
proximately 30 minutes of the journey. With a shorter journey, the status of the last suffijciently long journey is shown.
When frequently making short trips, regularly
take a detailed measurement.

The engine oil level is displayed.
Messages
for
the
engine
oil
level
Principle
Different messages are shown on the display, depending on the engine oil level. Follow these
messages.
If there is too little engine oil, within the next
200 km, approximately 120 miles top up.
Ensure not to top up with too much engine oil.
