Hold down the button on the lefthand side of the driver, until the
component switches off.'yOn the front passenger side:

Temperature
Principle
The automatic air conditioning adjusts to the
set temperature as quickly as possible, using
maximum cooling or heating power if necesj
sary. The temperature is then maintained.
Adjusting Turn the wheel to select the dejsired temperature.
Avoid switching between different temperaturesettings in rapid succession. The automatic airconditioning will otherwise not have sufficient
time to establish the temperature selected.
Display
A symbol is permanently shown in the disj
play for automatic air conditioning.
Cooling
function
Principle
Interior air is cooled and dried, then reheated
to suit the temperature setting.
The interior can only be cooled when the enj
gine is running.
Switching
on/off Press the button.
The cooling function is switched on or
off.
Depending on weather conditions, the windj
screen and side windows may mist over for a
short time when the engine is started.
The cooling function is switched on automatij
cally in the AUTO programme.
When using the automatic air conditioning,
condensation, see page 200, develops that
exits underneath the vehicle.
Maximum

effect
Principle
System is set to lowest temperature, optimum
air flow and recirculated-air mode.

General
To be able to adjust the air flow manually, first switch off the AUTO programme.
Controls Press left or right side button: reduceor increase air flow.
The selected air flow is shown on the display
for automatic air conditioning.
In order to protect the battery the air flow rate
of the automatic air conditioning is reduced, if necessary.
Adjusting
the
air
distribution
manually Principle
The air distribution for air conditioning can be set manually.
Controls Press button repeatedly to select aprogramme:'yUpper body area.'yUpper body area and footwell.'yFootwell.'yWindows and footwell.'yWindows, upper body area and footwell.'yWindows: only on the driver's side.'yWindows and upper body area.
If there is condensation on the window, pressthe AUTO button in order to use the condenj
sation sensor.
SYNC
programme Principle
The system enables current settings for the
driver's side for temperature, air flow, air distrij bution and AUTO programme to be transferred
to the passenger's side and into the rear on the left/right.

The programme is switched off if setjtings are changed on the front pasj
senger's side or in the rear passenger comj partment.
Residual
heat
Principle
The heat saved in the engine is used to heat up the interior. This is possible for up to 15 mij
nutes after the engine has been stopped.

Defrosting
windows
and
removing
condensation
Principle
This removes ice and condensation quickly
from the windscreen and the front side winj dows.
Switching
on/off Press the button.
LED is illuminated when system
switched on.
To do this, point the side nozzles at the side windows if necessary.
The air flow can be adapted when the proj
gramme is active.
If there is condensation on the window, switch on the cooling function as well or press the AUTO button to use the condensation sensor.
Rear
window
heating Press the button. LED is illuminated.The rear window heating is switched
off automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated
carbon
filter
The microfilter traps dust and pollen in the inj coming air.
The activated charcoal filter removes gaseous
pollutants from the outside air entering the vej hicle.
Have these combined filters replaced during maintenance, see page 238, of the vehicle.Ventilation
Ventilation

Independent
ventilation/
auxiliary
heating
Principle The independent ventilation system ventilatesthe passenger compartment and lowers itstemperature under some circumstances.
The auxiliary heating system warms up thepassenger compartment; snow and ice can be
removed more easily. With the ignition
switched off, the air is automatically directed
towards the windscreen, side windows and footwell.
General
The systems can be switched on and off dij
rectly or via two preselected departure times.
The switch-on time is automatically deterj
mined from the temperature. The systems will
switch on in good time before the preselected departure time.
This function is possible using the iDrive or the
remote control.
If ambient temperatures are below 0
