Closing
the
trunk
lid WARNING
An open tailgate protrudes from the vehij
cle and can endanger occupants and other traffic participants or damage the vehicle in the
event of an accident, braking or evasive maj
neuvers. In addition, exhaust fumes may enter the vehicle interior. There is a risk of injury orrisk of property damage. Do not drive with the
tailgate open.'

speed, up to 3 mph/5 km/h.
Braking
safely
Your vehicle is equipped with ABS as a standj
ard feature.
Perform an emergency stop in situations that require such.
Steering is still responsive. You can still avoid any obstacles with a minimum of steering efj
fort.
Pulsation of the brake pedal and sounds from
the hydraulic circuits indicate that ABS is in its active mode.
In certain braking situations, the perforated
brake discs can emit functional noises. Howj
ever, this has no effect on the performance and
operational reliability of the brake.
Objects
in
the
movement
area
around
pedals
and
floor
area
WARNING
Objects in the driver's floor area can limit
the pedal distance or block a depressed pedal.
There is a risk of an accident. Stow objects in
the vehicle such that they are secured and
cannot enter into the driver's floor area. Use
floor mats that are suitable for the vehicle and
can be safely attached to the floor. Do not use loose floor mats and do not layer several floormats. Make sure that there is sufficient clearjance for the pedals. Ensure that the floor mats
are securely fastened again after they were rej
moved, e.g., for cleaning.'

Condensation
water
under
the
parked
vehicle
When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water develops and collects unj
derneath the vehicle.
Driving
on
racetracks Higher mechanical and thermal loads during
racetrack operation lead to increased wear. This wear is not covered by the warranty. Thevehicle is not designed for motorsports comj

High gross weight can overheat the tires,
damage them, and cause a sudden drop in tire
inflation pressure. There is a risk of an accij
dent. Pay attention to the permitted load caj pacity of the tires and never exceed the perjmitted gross weight.'

The maximum load is the sum of the weight of
the occupants and the cargo.
The greater the weight of the occupants, the less cargo that can be transported.
Stowing
and
securing
cargo

There are four lashing eyes in the cargo area for securing cargo.
Attach load securing aids, such as lashing straps, retaining straps, draw straps or cargonets, to the lashing eyes in the cargo area.

net To secure the cargo the floor net can also beused.
Hook the floor net into the fittings in the cargoarea floor.

not be ensured in driving-critical situations due to the elevated center of gravity. There is a risk

The vehicle contains advanced technologies
for the reduction of fuel consumption and
emission values.
Fuel consumption depends on a number of difj ferent factors.
Carrying out certain measures, such as a modj erate driving style and regular maintenance, can influence fuel consumption and the envijronmental impact.
Remove
unnecessary
cargoAdditional weight increases fuel consumption.
Remove
attached
parts
following
use
Remove roof-mounted luggage racks which
are no longer required following use.
Attached parts on the vehicle impair the aerojdynamics and increase the fuel consumption.Close
the
windows
and
glass
sunroof
Driving with the glass sunroof and windows
open results in increased air resistance and
thereby reduces the range.
Tires
General
information Tires can affect fuel consumption in various
ways, e.g., tire size may influence fuel conj
sumption.
Check
the
tire
inflation
pressure
regularly
Check and, if needed, correct the tire inflation
pressure at least twice a month and before
starting on a long trip.
Low tire inflation pressure increases rolling rej
sistance and thus raises fuel consumption and
tire wear.
Drive
away
immediately
Do not wait for the engine to warm-up while
the vehicle remains stationary. Start driving
right away, but at moderate engine speeds.
This is the quickest way of warming the cold engine up to operating temperature.
Look
well
ahead
when
driving
Avoid unnecessary acceleration and braking.
By maintaining a suitable distance to the vehij cle driving ahead of you.
Driving smoothly and proactively reduces fuel

Avoid
high
engine
speeds
As a rule: driving at low engine speeds lowers
fuel consumption and reduces wear.
Use 1st gear to get the vehicle moving. Startj ing with the 2nd gear, accelerate rapidly. Whenaccelerating, shift up before reaching high enj
gine speeds.
When you reach the desired speed, shift into
the highest applicable gear and drive with the
engine speed as low as possible and at a conj
stant speed.
If necessary, observe the gear shift indicator of the vehicle, refer to page 89.
Use
coasting
When approaching a red light, take your foot
off the accelerator and let the vehicle coast to
a halt.
For going downhill take your foot off the accelj erator and let the vehicle roll.
The flow of fuel is interrupted while coasting.
Switch
off
the
engine
during
longer
stops
Switch off the engine during longer stops, e.g.,
at traffic lights, railroad crossings or in traffic
congestion.
Auto
Start/Stop
function The Auto Start/Stop function of the vehicle aujtomatically switches off the engine during a
stop.
If the engine is switched off and then restarted
rather than leaving the engine running conj stantly, fuel consumption and emissions are
reduced. Savings can begin within a few secj
onds of switching off the engine.
In addition, fuel consumption is also deterj mined by other factors, such as driving style,road conditions, maintenance or environmental
factors.
Switch
off
any
functions
that
are
not
currently
needed
Functions such as seat heating and the rear window defroster require a lot of energy and
reduce the range, especially in city and stop- and-go traffic.
Switch off these functions if they are not needed.
The ECO PRO driving program supports the
energy conserving use of comfort features.
These functions are automatically deactivated partially or completely.
Have
maintenance
carried
out
Have the vehicle maintained regularly to achjieve optimal vehicle efficiency and service life.BMW recommends that maintenance work be
performed by a BMW dealerss service center.

ECO
PRO
Concept
ECO PRO supports a driving style that saves
on fuel consumption. For this purpose, the enj
gine control and comfort features, e.g., the clij mate control output, are adjusted.
Under certain conditions the engine is autoj
matically decoupled from the transmission in
the D selector lever position. The vehicle conj tinues traveling with the engine idling to rejduce fuel consumption. Selector lever positionD remains engaged.Seite 184Driving
