Canada models: this function cannot be switched
off . They activate automatically each time the ig­
n ition is switched on . This menu item is shown
with a "gray background".
Coming home, Leaving home
The coming home function illuminates the area
outside the vehicle when you turn the ignition off
and open the driver's door. To switch on the func­
tion, se lect
Entry/exit lighting.
The leaving home illumi nates the area outs ide
the vehicle when you unlock the vehicle . To
switch on the function, select
Entry/exit light­
ing .
The coming home and leaving home funct ions
only operate when it is dark and the light switch
is in the
AUTO position.
Emergency flasher

The emergency flashers makes other drivers
aware of yo ur vehicle in dangerous situations .
.. Press the
[!J button to switch the emergency
flashers on or off.
You can indicate a lane change or a turn when the
emergency flas hers are switched on by using the
turn signal lever. The eme rgency flashers s top
temporarily.
The emergency flashers also wo rk when the igni­
tion is turned off.
(D} Tips
You should sw itch the emergency flashers on
if:

-You are the last ca r in a traffic jam so that
all other vehicles approaching from behind
can see you, or i f
- Your vehicle has broken down or yo u are
having an emergency, or if
- Your vehicle is be ing towed o r if you are
towing another vehicle .

A switch is no longer needed to switch the read­
ing lights on.
A swiping movement or a brief tap
on the light is all that is needed to switch the
light on or off. If you hold your finger on the
read ing light when switching it on, this can d im
the light down to a certain level.
Interior lighting
There are other opt ional interior lighting func­
tions that are available . Several functions can be
set in the Infotainment system. Select in the In­
fotainment system:

left control button >Vehicle settings > Interior

will dim when there is incoming light (such as
headlights from the rear).
A WARNING
Electrolyte fluid can leak from automat ic dim­
m ing mirrors if t he g lass is b roken . Electro­
lyte fluid can ir ritate skin, eyes and airways .
- Repeated or long-term exposure to elect ro-
lyte fluid can lead to irritat ion of the a ir­
ways, especially in peo ple with asthma or
ot he r resp irato ry condi tions. Take deep
breat hs immed iate ly after leaving the veh i­
cl e or, if this is n ot possib le, open all of t he
doo rs and windows as wide as possible.
- If elec troly te flu id ente rs the eyes, flush
t hem thorough ly with a large amou nt o f
cl ean water for at least 15 mi nutes and then
seek medical attention.
- If elec troly te f lu id comes into con tact wit h
the skin, flush t he affected area with clean
water for at least 15 minutes a nd then clean
with soap and water and seek medical at­
tent ion. Clean affected cloth ing and shoes
thoroughly before wear ing again .
- If the fluid was swallowed and the person is
conscious, flus h the mouth with water for at
least 15 minutes. Do not induce vomiting
unless this is recommended by med ica l pro-

fessionals. Seek medical attention immedi­
ately .
(D Note
If the glass on an a utomat ic dimmi ng mirror
breaks, electro lyte can leak out. This liquid
damages plastic sur faces. Remove t he liqu id
as quickly as possible, for example using a
wet sponge.
@ Tips
- If the light reaching the rearview mirror is
obstructed, the automatic dimming mirror
w ill not function correctly,
- The automatic dimming m irrors do not dim
w hen the interior lighting is turned on or
the reverse gear is selected.

To prevent inaccurate compass readings, do
not bring any remote controls, e lectr ica l dev i­
ces or metall ic objects near the mirro r.

Calibrating the compass

pass must be recalibrated .

A WARNING
- To reduce the r isk to yourself and other driv­
ers, calibrate the compass in an area whe re
there is no traffic .
- Always pay attention to the traffic and the
area around your vehicle if you are readi ng
the compass whi le dr iv ing .

When jump starting or charging the battery,
never connect the negative ground cable to
the battery negative post because the battery
manager system must be able to detect the
battery's state of charge. Always connect the
negative ground cable to the negat ive ground
post of the battery manager control unit .
Use of jumper cables
Make sure to connect the jumper cable clamps in
exactly the order described below!

The proc edure desc ribed below for connecting
jumper cables is intended to provide a jump start
for your vehicle.
Vehicle with discharged battery:
.. Turn off lights and accessories, move lever of
automatic transmission to N (Neutral) or P
(Park) and set parking brake .
Connect POSITIVE(+) to POSITIVE(+) (red)
.,. Open the red cover on the positive terminal

Emergency situations
1. Connect one end of the red positive cab le on
the
jump start bolt~ fig. 211 (D (bolt und er
the red cover= "posit ive") of the veh icle to be
sta rted @.
2. Connect the other end to the posit ive termi-
nal @of the booster battery @.
Connect NEGATIVE (-) to NEGATIVE (- )
(black)
3. Connect one end of the black negative cable
to the negative terminal @ of the booster
battery @.
4. Connect the other end to the
jump start pin
@ ("negative") of the vehicle to be started
@.
Starting the engine
.. Start the engine of the vehicle with the booster
battery @. Run the eng ine at a moderate
speed .
.,. Start engine w ith discharged vehicle battery @
in the usual manner.
.,. If the engine fails to start, do not keep the
starter cranking for longer than 10 seconds.
Wait for about 30 seconds and then try again .
.. With engine running, remove jumper cables
from both vehicles in the exact
reverse order .
.. Close the red cover on the positive terminal.
The battery is vented to the outside to prevent
gases from entering the vehicle interior . Make
sure that the jumper clamps are well connected
with their metal parts in full contact with the battery term inals .
A WARNING
To avoid ser ious personal injury and damage
to the vehicle, heed all warnings and instruc­
tions of the jumper cable manufacturer.
If in
doubt, call for road service.
- Jumpe r cables must be long enough so that
the vehicles do not touch .
- When connecting jumper cables, make sur e
that they cannot get caug ht in any moving
parts in the engine compartment.
- Before you check anything in the engine
compa rtment, always read and heed all
