leased into the atmosphere.
The exclusive use of unleaded fue l is critically im­
portant for the life of the catalytic converter and
proper functioning of the engine .
~ WARNING
-The temperature of the exhaust system is
high, both when driving and after stopping
the engine.
- Never touch the exha ust ta il pipes once they
have become hot. This could result in burns.
- Do not park or operate the vehicle in areas
where the hot exhaust system may come in
contact with dry grass, brush, fuel spill or
other mater ial which can cause a fire.
- Do not apply additional undercoating or
rustproof ing on or near the exhaust mani­
fold, exhaust pipes, catalytic converter or
heat shields. During dr iv ing, the substance
used for undercoating could overheat and
cause a fire.

- Be aware that just o ne tank filling with
lead ed fue l will already ser iously degrade
the pe rformance of the catalytic co nverter .
- Do not exceed the correct eng ine o il level

- Do not drive until the fuel tank becomes
completely empty. The engine could mis­
fire. Unburned fuel could also get into the
exhaust system and th is cou ld cause the
c ata lytic converter to overheat.
- Do not turn off the ignition whi le the vehicle
i s mov ing.
- Do not continue to operate your veh icle un­
der these cond it ions, as otherwise fue l can
r each the cataly tic conve rte r. This cou ld re­
s ul t in ove rheating of the converter, req uir­
i ng its re placement.
- To assure efficient operation of the Em is ­

- Have your vehicle maintained properly and
in accordance with the service recommen­

® For the sake of the environment
Even when the Emiss ion Control System is op­
erating properly, the exhaust gas can have a
su lfur -like exhaust gas sme ll under some op­
erating states. This depends on the sulfur
content of the fuel being used. Us ing a d iffer­
ent brand of fuel may help, or f illing the tank
wi th lead-free supe r g rade gasoline.

Working in the engine compartment
Special care is required if you are working in the
engine comportment
For work in th e engine compartm ent su ch as
che cking and filling fluids, there i s a ri sk of in­
jury, scalding , accident s, and burn s. For thi s
reason , follow all the warnings and gene ral
s afety p re caution s prov ided in the following in·
formatio n. The engine compartment is a dan­
gerous area on the vehicle.

A WARNING
-- T urn the engine off.
- Sw itch the ignition off.
- Set the parking brake .
- Move the selector lever into t he P position .
- Neve r open the hood whe n there is steam o r
coo lant escaping from the engine compart ­
ment, because there is a risk that you could
be burned. Wait unt il no steam or coolant is
escaping.
- Let the eng ine cool down.
- Keep children away from the eng ine com -
partment.
- Never sp ill fluids on a ho t engine. These flu ­
ids (such as the anti -freezing agent con ­
tained in the coolant) can ignite .
- Avoid short c ircui ts in the elect rical sys tem.
- W hen working in the engi ne comp artme nt,
remember that the radiator fan can swi tch

Care and cleaning
General information
Regular, proper care helps to maintain your vehi ­
cle's value. It can a lso be a requirement when
submitting warranty claims for corrosion damage
and paint defects on the body.
The necessary care products can be obtained
from an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility . Read and follow the instruc­
tions for use on the packaging.
A WARNING
- Us ing clean ing and care products incorrectly
can be dangerous to your health.
- Always store clean ing and care products out
of reach of children to reduce the r isk of po i­
son ing .
@ For the sake of the environment
- Preferably purchase env ironmenta lly-friend­
l y cleaning products.
- Do not d ispose of leftover cleaning and care
products with household trash.
Car washes
T he longer that deposits remain on the vehicle,
the more the surface may be damaged. High
temperatures such as those caused by sunlight increase the damag ing effect.
Befor e washing, rinse
off heavy depos its with
p lenty of water.
S tubborn depos its such as bird droppings or tree
sap are best removed with plenty of water and a
microfiber cloth.
A lso, wash t he un derside of yo ur vehicle once
road sa lt stops being used for the season .
Pressure washers
When washing your ve hicle w ith a pressure wash­
e r, a lways fo llow the operating instructions pro­
vided wi th the p ressure washer. This is especially
i mportant in rega rd to the pressure and sp raying
d istance . Do not aim the spray directly at seals on
side windows, doors, the hood, the luggage com-

partment lid or the panorama glass roof* or at
tires, rubber hoses, insulating material, sensors *
o r camera lenses* . Keep a distance of at least 16
in
(40 cm).
Do not remove snow and ice with a pressure
washer.
Never use cone nozz les o r high press ure nozzles .

Automatic car washes
Spray off the vehicle before washing.
Make s ure that the windows and roo f* are closed
and the windshie ld wipers are
off . Follow instruc ­
tions from the car wash ope rator, especially if
there are accessories attached to your vehicle.
If possible, use car washes that do not have
brushes .
Washing by hand
Clean the ve hicl e starting from the top and wor k­
i ng down using a soft sponge o r cleaning br ush.
U se solven t-free cleaning produ cts.
Washing vehicles with matte finish paint by
hand
T o avo id damag ing the pa int w hen washi ng, fi rst
remove dust and large pa rticl es from you r vehi­
cle . Insects, grease spots and fingerprints are
best removed w ith a special cleaner for matte
finish paint.
Apply t he product using a microf iber cloth . To
avoid damaging the paint surface, do not use too
much pressure.
Rinse the ve hicl e thoroug hly w ith wate r. Then
cl ean usi ng a neutral shampoo and a soft micro­
fiber cloth .
Rinse the ve hicl e thorough ly aga in and let it air
dry. Remove any wate r residue using a chamois.
WARNING
-On ly wash the vehicle when the ign ition is
off and follow the instr uctions from the car

Safety compliance sticker
The safety compliance sticker is your assurance
that your new vehicle complies with all applicable
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards which
were in effect at the time the vehicle was manu­
factured. You can find this sticker on the door
jamb on the driver's side .
It shows the month and
year of production and the veh icle identificat ion
number of your vehicle (perforation) as well as
the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and the
Gross Axle We igh t Rating (GAWR).
High voltage warning label
The high voltage warning label is located in the
engine compartment next to the engine hood re­
lease. The spark ignition system complies with
the Canadian standard ICES-002.
Weights
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
The Gross Vehicle We ight Rating (GVWR), and
the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) for front
and rear are listed on a sticker on the door jamb
o n the driver's side.
The Gross Vehicle We ight Rating includes the
we ight of the bas ic vehicle plus fu ll fuel tank, oil
and coolant, plu s maximum load, which includes
passenge r weight (1S0 lbs/68 kg per designated
seat ing position) and luggage weight¢.& .
Gross Axle Weight Rating
The Gross Axle Weight Rating is the maximum
load that can be applied at each axle of the vehi­
cl e ¢ _& .
Vehicle capacity weight
The vehicle capacity weight (max. load) is listed
on the dr iver 's side 8-pillar .
Roof weight
The maximum p ermissible roof we ight is 165 lb
(7 5 kg). The roof weight is the total of the

I f in doubt about any se rvicing, have it done by
your author ized Audi dealer or any other prope rly
eq uipped and qua lified workshop. We strongly
urge you to g ive your author ized Audi dealer the
opportunity to perform a ll scheduled mainte­
nance and necessary repairs. Your dealer has the
fac ilities, original parts and trained specialists to
keep your veh icle running properly .
Pe rforming limit ed ma intenance yourself
The fo llow ing pages describe a limited number of
procedures which can be performed on your vehi­
cle with o rdinary tools, should the need arise and
tra ined personnel be unavailable. Before per­
forming any of these procedures, always thor­
ough ly read a ll of the app licab le text and careful­
ly follow the instructions g iven . Always rigorously
observe the
WARNINGS prov ided .
Before you check an ything in the eng ine com ­
partment, alw ays read and heed all WARNINGS
c::> .&. and c::> .&. in Working in the engine compart­
ment on page 159 .
Consumer inf ormation
A WARNING
- Ser ious personal in jury may occur as a result
of improperly performed maintenance, ad­
justments or repairs .
- Always be extremely careful when work ing
on the vehicle. Always follow commonly ac­
cepted safety practices and general com­ mo n sense. Never risk pe rsonal injury.
- Do not attempt any of the mai ntenance,
checks or repairs described on t he following
pages if you are not fu lly familiar wi th these
or other proce dures with respect to the ve­
h icle, o r are uncerta in how to pro ceed.
- Do not do a ny work withou t the prope r tools
a nd eq uipment. H ave the necessary wo rk
done by your au thorized Audi dealer or an­
other proper ly equipped and qualified work ­
shop.
- The engine compa rtment of any motor ve hi­
cle is a potent ially hazardous area . Never
reach into the area around or touch the radi­
ator fan.
It is temperature controlled and
can switch on suddenly - even when the en­
g ine is off and the ignition key has been re­
moved. The rad iator fan switches on au to­
mat ica lly when the coo la nt reaches a certain
tem perature and will continue to r un until
the coolant tem pera ture drops.
- Always remove t he ignition key befo re any­
one gets under the vehicle.
- Always support your veh icle with safety
s tands if i t is necessary to work u nder neat h
the vehicle . The jack* s upplied w ith the vehi­
cle is not adequate fo r this purpose and
could collapse caus ing serious personal in ­
jury.
- If you m ust wor k unde rneath the vehicle
with the w heels on the g round, always make
sure the vehicle is on level ground, that the
wheels a re always sec urely blocked and that
the engine cannot be started.
- Always make sure the transmission se lector
lever (automatic transmiss ion) is in P (Park
position) and the park brake is applied.
