A WARNING
-The ski sack is intended only for the trans­
portation of skis and other light objects. To
reduce the risk of serious personal injury,
never transport heavy or pointed objects in
the ski sack.
- When braking rapidly or during an accident ,
the load could be displaced and cause injury
to occupants.
- Sharp edges on the load must be covered
for protection. Always fasten the belt tight­
ly around the sack and its contents

- For safety reasons, do not transport more
than two pairs of skis in the ski sack .
- You must secure the ski sack with the strap
after loading.
- Make sure all objects that you are transport­
ing in the pass-through are secured. Other­
wise they could slide around during sudden
braking maneuvers and cause injury .

-Only fold the bag up if it is dry.
- When transporting skis or snowboards, tighten the securing strap between the
bindings.
- Lay skis in the bag with the points facing
forward and snowboards and ski pole points
facing the rear.

Reversing the cargo area floor
You can use the reversible cargo area floor with
the dirt-resistant side or the decorative side .
.,. To turn up the dirt-resistant side, pull the cargo

.,. To turn up the decorative side , take out the car­
go floor at both handles on the left and right
side.

- Only a specially designed roof rack may be used on your vehicle . These roof racks are the basis
for a complete roof rack system. Additional at­
tachments/carrier systems are necessary to
transport luggage and sports equipment . We
recommend roof racks and attachments from

The temperat ure can be free ly adjusted using the
l eft dial.
~ Ad justing the seat heating*
You can adjust the left and right heated seat
temperature using the left/ right t humbwheel.
The seat heating is switched off when the level is
set to 0.
~ Sw itching the rear window defogger on
and off
The rear window defogger only operates when
the eng ine is running. It switches off a utomati­
cally after approximate ly 10 to 20 minutes, de ­
pending on the outside temperature.
Adjusting air d istribution and air vents
You can adjust the vents where the air wi ll flow
out of. The a ir distribution is eas ily adjusted be ­
tween the two symbols positioned next to each
other
(®/;J/~/ ~).
In the ~ setting, the windshield and side win­
dows are defrosted or cleared of condensation as
q ui ckly as possible. The maxim um amount of a ir

flows mainly from the vents below the wind ­
shield. Recirculation mode switches off .
You can open o r close the center a nd rear vents in
the co ckpit and the vents in the rear center con­
sole using the ridged thumbwheels . The levers
adjust the direction of the airflow from the vents.
A WARNING
-- You shou ld not use the recircu lation mode
for an extended period since no fresh air is
drawn in. When the A/C system* is switched
off, the windows can fog up which increases
the risk of an accident.
- Individuals w ith reduced sensit ivity to pa in
or temperature could develop burns when
using the seat heat ing* function. To reduce
the risk of injury, these individua ls should
not use seat heating*.

To avoid damaging the seat heat ing* ele­
ments, do not kneel on the seats or place
heavy pressure on one area of the seat.

IAUTOI Switching automatic mode on and off
Automatic mode ma inta ins a constant tempera­
ture ins ide the vehicle. Air temperature, airflow
and air distribution are controlled automatically.
- I -Adjusting the temperature
The vehicle inte rior temperature can be adjusted
for the driver and the front passenger us ing the
l eft/rig ht knob. Temperatures can be set be­
tween a range o f 60 °F ( +16 °() and 84 °F
(+28 °C) . Outside of this range,
LO or HI will ap­
pear in the climate control system display. At
both of these settings, the climate contro l sys­
tem runs continuously at maximum cooling or
heating power. There is no temperature regula­
tion .
~ Adjust ing the blower
You can adjust the vo lume of air generated by the
blower to your preference. Use the left
l!:I button
to decrease the air speed, and use the right
lj]
button to increase the air speed . The blower
should always run at a low sett ing to prevent the
windows from fogging and to ensure a continu­
ous exchange of air ins ide the veh icle. To have
the airflow regulated automatically, press the
IAUTO! button.
~/l;o!/ h0! Adjusting air distribution
You can manually select the vents where the air
will flow. The buttons can be pressed individually
or in combination with each other. To have the air
d is tribution regulated automatical ly, press the
IAUTO ! button.
~ Adjusting the seat heating*
Pressing the button switches the seat heating on
at the h ighest setting (level 3). The LEDs indicate
the temperature level. To reduce the tempera­
ture, press the butto n again . To switch the seat
heating off, press the button repeatedly until the
LED turns off.
Afte r approximately 10 minutes, the seat heating
a utomatically switches from level 3 to level 2.

Synchronization
If you press the

Air vents
You can open o r close the center and rear vents in
the cockpit and the vents in the rear center con­
sole using the ridged thumbwheels . The levers

model ve rsions of your vehicle . Some of the fea­
tures descr ibed in t his sec tions may be s tanda rd

equipment on others . If yo u are not sure, ask
your author ized Audi dealer.

straint system and work together to help reduce
the risk of injury in a wide variety of occident si t­
uations.

What impairs driving safety?
Safe driving is directly related to the condition of
the vehicle, the driver as well as the driver's abili­
ty to concentrate on the road without being dis­
tracted.
The driver is responsible for the safety of the ve­
h icle and all of its occupants . If your ability to
drive is impaired, safety risks for everybody in the
veh icle increase and you also become a hazard to
everyone else on the road ¢_& .T herefo re:
.. Do not let yourself be distracted by passengers
or by using a cellular telephone.
.. NEVER dr ive when your dr iv ing ability is im­
paired (by medications, alcohol, drugs, etc.).
.. Observe a ll traff ic laws, rules of the road and
speed limits and plain common sense.
.. ALWAYS adjust your speed to road, traffic and
weather conditions.
.. Take frequent breaks on long trips. Do not drive
for more than two hours at a stretch.
.. Do NOT drive when you are tired, under pres­
sure or when you are stressed.

The proper driver seating position is important
for safe, relaxed driving.

For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
that you adjust the driver's seat to the following pos ition:
.. Adjust the driver's seat so that you can easily
push the pedals all the way to the floor while
keep ing your knee(s) slightly bent¢_& .
.,. Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position so that your back comes in
full contac t wi th it when you dr ive.
.. Adj ust the steer ing wheel so that there is a d is­
tance of at least 10 inches (25 cm) between the steering whee l and your breast bone¢

.. Adjust the steering wheel so that the steering
wheel and airbag cover points at your chest and
not at your face .

A WARNING
Drivers who are unbelted, out of position or
too close to the airbag can be seriously in­
jured by an airbag as it unfolds. To help re­
duce the risk of serious personal injury:
- Always adjust the driver's seat and the
steering wheel so that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between your breastbone
and the steering wheel.
- Always hold the steering wheel on the out­
side of the steering wheel rim with your
hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock posi­
tions to help reduce the risk of personal in­
jury if the driver's airbag inflates.
- Never hold the steering wheel at the
12 o'clock position or with your hands at
other positions inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steering wheel hub. Holding
the steering wheel the wrong way can cause serious injuries to the hands, arms and head
if the driver's airbag deploys.
- Pointing the steering wheel toward your
face decreases the ability of the su pplemen­
tal driver's airbag to protect you in a colli­
sion.
- Always sit in an upright position and never lean against or place any part of your body
too close to the area where the airbags are
located.
- Before driving, always adjust the front seats
and head restraints properly and make sure
that all passengers are properly restrained.
- Never adjust the seats while the vehicle is
moving . Your seat may move unexpectedly
and you could lose control of the vehicle.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests are
tilted back, the greater the risk of injury due
to incorrect positioning of the safety belt
and improper seating position.
- Children must always ride in child safety

Proper seating position for the front
passenger
The proper front passenger seating position is
important for safe, relaxed driving.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of in­
jury in the event of an accident, we recommend
that you adjust the seat for the front passenger
to the following position :
.,. Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is in
an upright position and your back comes in full
contact with it whenever the vehicle is moving.
.,. Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge is
as even as possible with the top of your head. If
that is not possible, try to adjust the head re­

senger's breastbone and the instrument
panel.
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat of
their own and properly fasten and wear the
safety belt belonging to that seat.
- Before driving, always adjust the front pas­ senger seat and head restraint properly.

- Always keep your feet on the floor in front
of the seat. Never rest them on the seat, in­
strument panel, out of the window, etc. The
airbag system and safety belt will not be able to protect you properly and can even in­
crease the risk of injury in a crash.

Proper seating positions for passengers in
rear seats
Rear seat passengers must sit upright with both
feet on the floor consistent with their physical
size and be properly restrained whenever the ve­ hicle is in use.
To reduce the risk of injury caused by an incorrect
seating position in the event of a sudden braking
maneuver or an accident, your passengers on the
rear bench seat must always observe the follow­
ing:
~ Make sure that the seatback is securely latched
in the upright position¢

~ If there is a passenger on the rear center seat­
ing position, slide the center head restraint up­
ward at least to the next notch ¢

~ Keep both feet flat in the footwell in front of
the rear seat .
~ Fasten and wear safety belts properly

strained in a child restraint that is appropriate
for their size and age ¢

A WARNING
Passengers who are improperly seated on the
rear seat can be seriously injured in a crash.
- Each passenger must always sit on a seat of
their own and properly fasten and wear the
safety belt belonging to that seat.
Driving safety
- Safety belts only offer maximum protection
when the seatback is securely latched in the
upright position and the safety belts are properly positioned on the body . By not sit­
ting upright, a rear seat passenger increases
the risk of personal injury from improperly
positioned safety belts!
- Always adjust the head restraint properly so
that it can give maximum protection.
Proper adjustment of head restraints
Correctly adjusted head restraints are an impor­
tant part of your vehicle's occupant restraint sys­
tem and can help to reduce the risk of injuries in
accident situations.

~ Adjust the head restraints so the upper edge is
as even as possible with the top of your head. If
that is not possible, try to adjust the head re­
straint so that it is as close to this position as

properly adjusted head restra int.
- Always make sure each person in the vehicle
properly adjusts their head restraint. Adjust

restra int so that it is as close to th is position
as possib le.
- Never attempt to adjust head restraint wh ile driving.
If you have dr iven off and
must adjust the driver headrest for any rea­
son, fi rst stop the vehicle safely before at­
tempting to ad just the head restr aint.

Examples of improper seating positions
The occupant restraint system can only reduce
the risk of injury if vehicle occupants are properly
seated.
I mp roper seating positions can cause se rious in­
ju ry or deat h. Safety belts can only wo rk when
they are p roperly posi tioned o n the body . Im­
p roper seating posi tions reduce t he effe ct iveness
of sa fety belts and w ill even increase the r isk o f
in jury and death by moving the safety be lt to crit­
ical areas of the body . Improper seating posit ions
also increase the risk of ser ious injury and death
when an airbag deploys and strikes an occupant
who is not in the prope r seat ing position. A driver
is respo nsible for the safety of all vehicle occu­
pants and especially fo r children. Therefo re:
~ Never allow anyone to assume an incorrect
seat ing pos ition w hen the veh icle is being used
~ .&. -
The follow ing bulletins list only some sample po­
sitions that will inc rease the risk of serious inju ry
and death. Ou r hope is that these examples will
make you more aware of seat ing pos it io ns that
a re dangero us.

Pedal area
Pedals
The pedals must alway s be free to move and
must never be interfered with by a floor mat or
any o ther object.
Mak e su re t hat all pedals move free ly w ithout in­
te rfe rence and t hat nothing prevents them from
r etur ning to their orig inal positions.
Only use floor mats that leave the pedal a rea free
and can be secured wi th floor ma t faste ne rs.
If a brake circuit fails, i ncreased brake pedal trav­
el is requ ired to bring the vehicle to a fu ll stop.
