The instrument illumination for the needles
and d ia ls t urns on when the ignition is turned
on and the lights are turned off. The ill umina
t ion fo r the g auges reduces aut omat ically and
eve ntu ally t urns off as brigh tness outside in
creases . This f unction reminds the drive r to
tur n the low beams on at the approp riate
time.
Coolant temperature indicator

Cold range
If only the LEDs at the bottom of the gauge t urn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem
perature yet. Avoid high eng ine speeds, full ac
ce le rating and heavy e ngine loads.
Normal range
T he eng ine has reached its operating tempera
ture once the L EDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on.
If the. indicator light in the inst ru
ment cluster d isp lay turns on, the coolant tem
perature is too high¢

when the vehicle is stationary or after switch
ing the ignition on, check if you can release the
parking brake. If you cannot release the park
ing brake, see your authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility . If you can re
lease the parking brake and the message still
appears, see an authorized Audi dealer or au
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to
have the malfunction corrected.
- If the indicator light and message appear while
driving, the hill start assist or emergency brak
ing function may be malfunctioning.
It may not
be possible to set the parking brake or release
it once it has been set. Do not park your vehicle
on hills. See an authorized Audi dealer or au
thorized Audi Service Facility for assistance.

brake pads are worn out

- If the brake system indicator light does not
turn off or it turns on while driving, the brake fluid level in the reservoir is too low,
and this increases the risk of an accident.
Stop the vehicle and do not continue driv
ing. See an authorized Audi dealer or au
thorized Audi Service Facility for assistance.
- If the brake system indicator light turns on
together with the ABS and ESC indicator
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function may
be malfunctioning. Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer available. This
could cause the vehicle to swerve, which in
creases the risk that the vehicle will slide.
Do not continue driving. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facili
ty for assistance.

Lights and Vi sion
- If you turn off the ignition whi le the exterior
lights are on and open the door, a warning
tone sounds.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature d ifference
between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after sw itch ing them on. This
does not affect the serv ice life of the light
ing .
Turn signal and h igh beam lever
The turn signal lever operates the turn signals,
the high beams and the headlight flasher.

H igh beams can cause glare for other drivers,
which increases the risk of an accident . For
this reason, only use the high beams or the headlight flasher when they will not create
g la re fo r othe r drive rs .
High beam assistant
App lies to: vehicles wi th high beam ass istan t
A camera on the rearv iew mirror mou nt can de
tect light sources from other road use rs. The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the position of vehicles driving ahead and on
coming vehicles, the vehicle speed and other en
vironmental and traffic cond itions.
Activating high beam ass istant
Requirement: the light sw itch must be set to the
A UTO posit ion and the hig h beam ass istant must
be switched on in the Infotai nment system

Headlight a ssist: System fault !
Drive to an authorized Aud i dealer or a uthorized
Aud i Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunct ion cor rected. You can still switc h the
hi gh beams on or off manually.
Headlight as sis t: Unavailable No camera view
The camera view is blocked, for example by a
sticker or debris.
The sensor is located between the interior rear
v iew mirror and the windshield . Do not p lace any
stickers in this area on the windshield.
A WARNING
H igh beam assistant is only intended to assist
the drive r. The dr iver is still responsible for
con troll ing the headlights a nd sw itch ing
them manually depend ing on light and v is ibil
i t y cond itions .
It may be neces sary to operate
t hem manually in situ at ions such as:
- In adverse weathe r co nd itions s uch as fog,
heavy r ain, b low ing snow o r sp raying wate r.
- On roads whe re oncoming traffic may be
partia lly obs cured, su ch as exp ressways .
- Whe n there are road users that do not have
s ufficient lighting, s uch as bi cycler s or
vehicles wi th dirty ta il lamps .
- In tight cu rv es and on steep hills.
- In poor ly l it areas.
- With strong reflectors, such as s igns.
- If the area of the windsh ield near the sensor
is fogged over, dirty, icy or covered w ith a
st icker.

The coming home and leav ing home functions
only operate when it is dark and the light switc h

Sunshade on the rear window

The rear window sunshade can be set so that it
retracts automatically when driving in reve rse. To
do this, select: ICARlfunction button>

led manner. Pinching could cause serious inju
r ies .

-Pressing the~ button several times in a
row can trigger the overload protection . The
sunshade can on ly be extended/retracted
again after a brief waiting period.
- The rear window sunshade only functions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14° F (-1 0°C) .

Move the windshie ld wiper lever to the corre
sponding position:
@ -windsh ield wipers off
@ -rain sensor mode. The windsh ield wipers
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds approx imately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is raining . The
higher the rain sensor sensit ivity is set (switch @
to the right), the earlier the windshield wipers re
act to moisture on the windshie ld. You can deac
tivate the rain sensor mode in the Infota inment
system, which switches the intermittent mode
on. Select: ICARI function button>

water droplets. You can sw itch this function off
by moving the lever to posit ion ® within
10 sec
onds of the afterwipe . The afterwipe function is
reactivated the next time you switch the ignit ion
o n .
Cleaning the headlights*. The headlight washer
system* operates only when the low beam head- lights are on. If you move the lever to posit ion

tions fo r Start-Stop mode are met .
Ignition is switched off automati call y
To prevent the veh icle battery from drain ing, the
ignit ion will switch off
automat ic a lly under the
following conditions:
- The vehicle must have already been driven.
- The Start/Stop system has stopped the engine.
- The driver's door must be open.
- The driver's safety be lt must be unb uckled.
- The brake pedal must not be p ressed .
- The vehicle must be stationary .
In th is case, the activated low beam is replaced
by the parking light. The parking lights will
sw itch off after approximately 30 minutes or
when you lock the vehicle .
If the Start/Stop system has not turned off the
engine or if you have sw itched the Start/Stop sys
tem off manually , the ignition will not be auto
mat ically switched off and the engine w ill contin
ue to run

t he engine to r un in confined spa ces .

If you select the Dor N se lector lever position
after sh ift ing into reverse, t he vehicle m ust

that are between approximately 32 ft (10 m) and 295
ft (90 m) in front of the vehicle and within
the detection zone . Within the limits of the sys

area in front of your vehicle that is classified as
cr itical, the system will direct your attention to
th is:
- Pedestrians or wild anima ls are highlighted in
red and the corresponding symbol. or.

- There is also an audible signal.
The area classified as critical is based on the veh i
cle speed and the steeri ng wheel angle . Pedes
trian and wild animal warning enco urages you to
pay more attention.
If the night vision assist image is rep laced by an
othe r d isplay (such as the on-board compute r),
the red. or. in dicator light~

Marking light*
To direct the driver's attention to a pedestrian,
the headlights can flash on the pedestrian three
times in a row when there is a pedestrian warn
ing.
This occurs at speeds above approximately 35 mph (60 km/h) if you are outside of illuminat
ed areas and no detected vehicles are shown. The
high beam assistant* controls the marking light*
c::> page 42, High beam assistant .
The marking light is not used for wild animals.
General information

The following situations may affect the function
of the night vision assist system:
- Poor visibility such as snow, rain, fog or heavy spray
- Dirty lens on the night vision assist camera
Make sure the night vision assist camera
c::> fig. 113 is not covered by stickers, deposits or
any other obstructions because that can affect
the camera function . For information on clean
ing, refer to
c::> page 231 .
The pedestrian and wild animal recogn it ion de
pends on the temperature difference between
the person/wild animal and the background . Peo
ple/wild animals may not be detected if the dif
ference is too small. The pedestrian/wild animal marking and the marking light* deactivate at

temperatures above approximately 77 °F (25 °C)
and during daylight.
If the night vision assist im
age is selected in the instrument cluster display,
then the
II symbol appears at the top on the
right side.
A WARNING
-Pay attention to traffic and the area around
your vehicle when night vision assist is switch
ed on. The driver is always responsible for as
sessing the traffic situation.
- Night vision assist can only warn about peo
ple and wild animals located within the visu
al range of the infrared camera. The visual
range corresponds to the image in the in
strument cluster display.
- Night vision assist may not detect people or
wild animals and mark them if
- they are not in an upright position, for ex
amp le if they are sitting or lying down
and/or
- the silhouette in the display appears in
complete or interrupted, for example be
cause the person is partially covered by a
vehicle or an animal by tall grass. This
could increase the risk of an accident.
- Never try to swerve around animals if doing
so will endanger you or other road users, be
cause this increases the risk of an accident.

-Even though the system evaluates the
shape and heat given
off by all detected ob
jects, there are limits to the system . There
may be false warnings.
- For technical reasons, the image pauses in
split second intervals.
