In certain cases, a vehicle will be classified as
critical for a lane change even if it is still some ­
what far away . The faster a vehicle approaches,
the sooner the display in the exterior m irror will
tu rn o n.
@ Vehicles traveling with you
Vehicles traveling with yo u are indicated in the
exter ior mirror if they are classified as cr itical for
a lane change . A ll vehicles detected by side assist
are ind icated by the t ime they ente r you r "blind
spot" , at the latest .
© Vehicles you are passing
If you s lowly pass a veh icle that s ide ass ist has
detected (the difference in speed between the
vehicle and your vehicle is less than 9 mph (15
k m/h)), the display in the exte rior m irror turns
o n as soon as t he veh icle enters your b lind spot .
The display w ill not t urn on if you quickly pass a
vehicle that side ass ist has de tected (the differ­
ence in speed is greater than 9 mph (15 km/ h)).
Function al limitat ions
The radar sensors are designed to detect the left
and right ad jacent lanes when the road lanes are
t h e normal width. In some situations, the display
in the exterior mirror may turn on even though
t h e re is no veh icle located in the area tha t is criti­
ca l for a lane change . For ex ample :
- If the lanes are na rrow or if your are drivi ng on
the edge of you r lane . If th is is the case, the ..,_

assist can detect pedestria ns and w ild an imals
that are between approximately 32 ft (10 m) and 295
ft (90 m) in front of the vehicle and within
the detection zone . Within the limits of the sys ­
tem

The segments in front of and behind the vehicle
help you to determine the distance between you
and an obstacle .
T he red lines mark the expected direction of trav­
el according to the steering angle. A white seg­
ment indicates an identified obstacle that is out­
side of the vehicle 's path. Red segments show
identified obs tacles that are in your vehicle's
path . As your vehicle comes closer to the obsta­
cle, the segments move close r to the veh icle . The
collision area has been reached when the next to
last segment is displayed. Obstacles in the colli­
s io n area, including those ou ts ide of the vehicle's

Parking next to obstacles
If there is an obstacle (such as a wall) next to the
parking space, posi tion the vehicle so there is
more space on that s ide. Position the long side of
the b lue surface so that there is s ufficient space
from the obstacle. The surface must no t be
touching . You will a lso need to sta rt turning the
steer ing wheel earlier . The bl ue curve ¢

must not touch the obstacle, but rather the re
shou ld be enough distance.

Error messages
Applies to: vehicles with parking system plus/rea rv iew cam­
era/peripheral camera
There is an error in the system if the LED in the
P'11A button is blinking and you hear a continuous
alarm for a few seconds after switching on the
parking system or when the parking system is al­
ready activated. If the error is not corrected be­
fore you switch
off the ignition, the LED in the PwA
button will blink the next time you switch on the
parking system by shifting into reverse.
Parking system plus*
If a sensor is faulty, the.!¾ symbol will appear in
front of/behind the vehicle in the Infotainment
display. If a rear sensor is faulty, only obstacles
that are in areas @ and @ are displayed
c> page 109 , fig. 116. If a front sensor is faulty,
only obstacles that are in areas © and @are d is ­
played . There is also a system malfunction if all
segments around the vehicle are red or if no seg­
ments are displayed.
Peripheral cameras*
There is a system malfunction if the~· symbol
appears and the corresponding display area is
shown in blue. The camera is not working in this
area.
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediately to have the malfunction corrected .
Trailer hitch
Applies to: vehicles with parking system plus/rearv iew cam­
era/peripheral cameras and t ra ile r hitch
For vehicles using the trailer socket, the parking
system rear sensors are not activated when you
shift into reverse gear or when you press the
PwA
button. Th is results in the following restrictions.
Parking system plus*
There is no distance warning for the rear. The
front sensors remain activated. The visual display
switches to trailer mode. ..,.

Airbag syste m
seat. Please be sure to read the important infor­
mation in the sections that follow and be sure to
heed all of the WARNINGS.
.&_ WARNING
To reduce the risk of injury when an airbag in­
flates, always wear safety belts properly.
- If you are unrestrained, leaning forward, sit­ ting s ideways or out of position in any way,
your risk of injury is much h igher.
- You will also receive serious injuries and could even be killed if you are up aga inst the
airbag or too close to it when it inflates -
even with an Advanced Airbag
c::> page 147 .
.&_ WARNING
A child in a rearward-facing chi ld seat instal­
led on the front passenger seat will be ser i­
ously inju red and can be killed if the front air­
bag inflates -even with an Advanced Airbag
System.
- Although the Advanced A irbag System in
yo ur vehicle is designed to tu rn off the front
airbag when a rearwa rd -facing child re ­
straint has been insta lled on the front pas­
senger seat, nobody can absolutely g uaran­
tee that deployment is impossible in all con­
ceivable s ituations that may happen during
the useful life of your vehicle .
- The inflating a irbag w ill hit the child seat or
infant carrier w ith great force and will
smash the ch ild seat and child against the
backrest, center a rmrest, door, or roof .
- Always install rearward-facing ch ild re­
straints on the rear seat .
- If you must install a rearward fac ing ch ild
seat on the front passenger seat because of exceptional c ircumstances and the

light does not come on
and stay on, immediately insta ll the rear­
facing child seat in a rea r seating position
and have the airbag system inspected by
your Audi dealer .

If, in exceptional circumstances, you must in­
stall a forward-facing child restraint on the
front passenger's seat:
- Always make sure the forward-facing seat
has been des igned and certified by its man­
ufacturer for use on a front seat with a pas­
senger front and side airbag.
- Never put the forwa rd-facing child restraint
up against or very nea r the instrument pan­
el.
- Always move the front passenge r seat to
the highest posit ion in the up and down ad­
justmen t range and move it back to the
rearmost posit io n in the seat's fo re and aft
adjustment range, as far away from the a ir ­
bag as poss ible, before install ing the for­
ward-facing chi ld restraint.
- Always make sure that the safety be lt upper
anchorage is behind the chi ld rest raint and
not next to o r in front of the c hild restraint
so that the safety be lt will be p roper ly posi­
tioned.
- Always make sure that there is noth ing on
the front passenger seat that will cause the
capacitive passenger detection system in
the seat to signal to the Airbag System that
the seat is occup ied by a person when it is
not , or to signal that it is occupied by some­
one who is heavier than the person ac tually
si tting o n the sea t. T he presence of addi­
tional objects could cause the passenger
front airbag to be turne d on when it should
be
off, or could cause the airbag to work in a
way that is d ifferent from the way it wou ld
have worked without the object on the seat.
- Make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG
OFF
li ght comes on and stays on all the time
whenever the ign it ion is switched on.
Advanced Airbag System components
T he front passenger seat in your veh icle has a lot
of ve ry important parts of the Advanced A irbag
System i n it. These parts incl ude the capacitive
passenger detection system, wir ing , b rackets,
and more. The control uni t moni tors the system
