Driver information system
-Once you have turned an economy tip off, it
will only appear again after you turn the ig­
nit ion on again .
- The economy tips are not displayed in every
instance, but rather in intervals over a peri­
od of t ime .
Odometer

The display of d istance dr iven is shown in miles
"m i" or kilometers "km". The units of measure­
ment (kilometers/m iles) can be changed in the
I nfotainment system.
Trip odometer and odometer
The trip odometer shows the distance driven
since it was last reset . It can be used to measure
short distances.
The trip odometer can be reset to zero by press­
ing the ~ reset button.
The odometer shows the total distance that the
veh icle has been driven.
Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instrument clus­
ter,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer display.
H ave the malfunction corrected as soon as possi­
ble.
Time/date display
The date, time of day and time and date format
can be set in the Infota inment system. Refer to
the Infota inment system operating manual for
instructions .

When you open the driver's door, the date and
time appear in the instrument cluster display for
30 seconds .
Head-up display

The Head-up display projects certain warn ings or
selected information from the assist systems* or
navigation* on the windshield. The display ap­
pears within the driver's field of vision.

Di spla y content
In the Infotainment system, you can specify
which information should be displayed: For ex­
ample, th is can include navigation informat ion *,
Adaptive cruise control* or night vision assist*.
The display of certa in info rmation and some of
the red indicator lights cannot be h idden in the
I nfotainment system.
Displ ay brightness
You can adjust the display br ightness in the Info­
tainment system. The display brightness decreas­
es automatically as the amount of light decreas­
es. The backgro und brightness is adjusted with
the instrument il lumination

To prevent scratches on the g lass cove ring the
head- up d isplay, do not place any objects in
the projection opening.

- Sunglasses w ith polar izat ion fi lters and u n­
favorab le lighting conditions can have a
negative effect on the display.
- An optim um display depends on the seat
pos ition and the height adjustment of the
head -up display.
- A specia l windshield is needed for the head ­
up display function.

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Ind icator Lamp (MIL) a in the
instr ument cluster is part of the On-Board Diag­
nostic (OBD II) system.

gine starts and the idle has stab ilized. This indi­
cates that the MIL is working properly.
If th e light does not go ou t after the eng ine is
sta rted, or i llum inates while you are driving, a
malfunction may exist in the engine system. If
the light illuminates, the catalytic converter
could be damaged.
Cont inue driving
with redu ced p ower (avoiding
sustained high speeds and/or rapid accelera­
tions) and have the condition corrected. Contact
your authorized Audi dealer.
If the ligh t illum ina tes, the electronic speed lim­
iter may also be malfunctioning. For more infor­

On-Board Diagnostics

On-Board Diagnostics monitors the components
of your emission control system. Each monitored
component in your engine system has been as­
s igned a code . In case of a malfunction, the com­
ponent will be identified and the fault stored as a
code in the contro l module memory.
T he M IL light may also illum inate if there is a
leak in the on-board fuel vapor recovery system.
If the light i lluminates after a refuelling, stop
the vehicle and make sure the fue l filler cap is
properly closed

In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the stor ­
ed data can only be displayed using special diag-
nostic equipment (generic scan tool for OBD).

- To reduce the r isk of an accident, only adjust
the driver's seat when the vehicle is station­ ary.
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands causing
injuries.
- The front seat backrests must not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impa irs the effect iveness of the safety
be lts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of i nju ry.

Power steering wheel position adjustment

The steering wheel position can be adjusted elec­
trically up and down and forward and back.

The steering column will cont inue moving as
long as you are pressing the switch .
~ To move the steering wheel forward or back,
press the switch forward/back. The steering
column will continue moving as long as you are
pressing the switch.
Driving
The steering wheel can a lso be adjusted when the
ignition is switched off .
In vehicles with memory function*, the steering
column settings are sto red together with the
seat position.
A WARNING
Improper use of steering wheel adjustment
and improper seating position can cause seri­
ous personal injury.
- Adjust the steering wheel column only when
the vehicle is not moving to prevent loss of
vehicle control.
- Adjust the driver's seat or steering whee l so
that there is a minimum of 10 in (25 cm)
between your chest and the steering wheel

tain this minimum distance, the airbag sys­
tem cannot protect you properly.

The adjustment depends on the driving mode se ­
l ected, steering movements, the driver's brak ing
and accelerat ion, and as the road su rface, vehicle
speed and load.
The vehicle ground clearance depends on the mode se lected and the speed . When you are in
the
auto , the highway setting is act ivated when
you dr ive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for more
than 30 seconds. The g round clearance is in­
creased automat ica lly if the speed drops below
44 mph (70 km/h) for more than 120 seconds .
Steering
The power steering adapts. Ind irect steering that
moves easily as in comfort mode is especially
sui ted to long drives on a h ighway. The Dynamic
mode provides sporty, direct steering .
Applie s to: vehicles with dynamic steering
The steering ratio changes based on vehicle
speed in order to maintain optimum steering ef­
fort for the dr iver at a ll times. This sets the steer­
i ng to be less sensit ive at higher speeds in order
to p rovide imp roved vehicle contro l. At reduced
speeds, steer ing is mo re direct in order to keep
t he s teering effo rt as m inima l as poss ib le when
t he dr iver is maneuvering the vehicle . At low and
ave rage speeds, dynamic steering* additionally
p rovides more responsive stee ring performance.
Sport differential *
As a component of the all wheel d rive system
(quattro)
<=? page 124 , the sport diffe rential dis ­
tr ib utes the dr iv ing power to the rear ax le de­
pending on the situation. The distribution o f
power varies from balanced (comfort) to sporty
(dynamic) depending on the selected mode . The
goa l is a high leve l of agility and ab ility to accel­
erate on curves. The ve hicle is very respons ive to
steer ing.
Cornering light*
The cornering light adapts the high beams to the
direction of the curve depending on the speed.
The pivot ing action and the light ing also adapt to

Adaptive cruise control*
T he behavio r whe n accelerating ca n be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise control also
responds to the driving behavior of the vehicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner.
Engine sound *
The eng ine sound adapts to the c urren t mode
and can be subtle to sporty.

Applies to: vehicles with adaptive ai r suspension
- Make sure there is enough clearance above
and be low the vehicle when parking. The
height of the vehicle (gro und clearance) can
change once it is parked due to temperature
fluctuations, changes to the load conditions
and changes to the dr iving modes .
- When transporting the vehicle on a car car­
r ie r, train, ship or by other means, o nly tie
the vehicle down at the run ning s urface of
the t ires , which is the outer c ircumference.
Se cur ing the vehicle at the axle compo­
nents, sus pen sion str uts o r towing eyes is
no t perm itted because the pressure in the
air suspens ion struts can change d uring
transport . The vehicle may not be secured
sufficiently if th is happens .
(D Tips
-In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the auto and
dynamic modes.
- The S selector lever position automatica lly
engages if the dynamic mode is selected.
- Applies to: vehicles with dynamic steering:
operating noise is heard when starting or
stopping the engine. Th is does not ind icate
a problem.

this section - for your own safety as well as that
of your passengers.
The information i n this section applies to all
model versions of yo ur vehicle . Some of the fea­
tures descr ibed in t his sections may be s tanda rd
equipment on some models, or may be optional
equipment on others . If you are not sure, ask
your authorized Audi dealer.

Automatic safety belt r etractors
Every safety be lt is equ ipped wi th an automatic
be lt retractor on the shoulder belt. Th is feature
l ocks the belt when the belt is p ulled out fast,
during hard braking and in an accident. The belt may also lock when you drive up or down a steep
h ill or through a sharp curve. During normal driv­
ing the belt lets you move freely .
Safety be lt pret en sioner s
The safety belts are equipped with a belt preten­
sioner that helps to tighten the safety belt and
remove slack when the pretensioner is activated
c:;, page 145. The function of the pretensioner is
monitored by a warning light

Con vertible loc king retractor
Every safety belt exc ept the one on the driver
seat is equipped with a convertible locking retrac­
tor that
mu st be used when the safety belt is
used to attach a child seat. Be sure to read the
important information about this featu re

Safe ty belt position .
-Safety belts offer optimum protection only
when the seatback is upr ight and belts are
prope rly pos itioned on the bo dy.
- Always ma ke sure tha t the rear sea t bac k­
rest to wh ic h t he cente r rea r safety be lt* is
a ttached is secure ly latched whenever the
rear center safety belt is being used. If the
backrest is not securely latched, the passen­
ger will move forward with the backrest dur­
ing sudden braking, in a sudden maneuver
and especially in a cras h.
- Never attach the safety belt to the buckle
for another seat. Attaching the belt to the
wrong buckle w ill red uce safety belt effec­
t iveness and can cause serious personal in­
jury.
- A passenger who is not p roperly restrained
can be seriously in ju red by the safety be lt it­
self when it moves from the stronger par ts

- Always lock the convertible locking retractor
when yo u are securing a child seat in the ve­
hicle

Safety belt position
Correct belt position is the key to getting ma xi­
mum protection from safety belts.

Use the height adjustme nt to change the posit ion
of the shoulder belt of the front safety belts .
A WARNING ~
Imp roperly positioned safety belts can ca use
se rio us pe rsonal injury in an a cciden t.
- The s hou lde r belt should lie as close to the
center of the collar bone as possib le and
should fi t well on the body . Ho ld the bel t
above the latch tongue and pull it evenly
across the chest so tha t it sits as low as pos ­
sible on the pe lvis and there is no pressure
on the abdomen. The belt should a lways fit
snug ly

- A loose-fitting safety belt can cause serious
inju ries by shifting its position on your body
from the strong bones to more vulnerable, soft tissue and cause serious i nju ry .
