The instrument illumination for the needles
and d ia ls t urns on when the ignition is turned
on and the lights are turned off. The ill umina ­
t ion fo r the g auges reduces aut omat ically and
eve ntu ally t urns off as brigh tness outside in­
creases . This f unction reminds the drive r to
tur n the low beams on at the approp riate
time.
Coolant temperature indicator

ed o n. To prevent engine damage, please observe
the following notes about the temperature rang­
es.
Cold range
If only the LEDs at the bottom of the gauge t urn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­
perature yet. Avoid high eng ine speeds, full ac­
ce le rating and heavy e ngine loads.
Normal range
T he eng ine has reached its operating tempera­
ture once the L EDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on.
If the. indicator light in the inst ru­
ment cluster d isp lay turns on, the coolant tem­
perature is too high¢

-Aux iliary headlig hts and ot her accessories in
front of the coo ling-air intake impa ir th e
cooling effect o f th e coolant . This increases
t he risk of th e engi ne overheating dur ing
hig h ou tsid e tempera tures and heavy en­
gine load.

-The front spoiler also he lps to distr ib ute
cooling air while driving . If the spoiler is
damaged, the cooling effect w ill be im­
paired and the risk of the engine overheat­
i ng will increase. See an author ized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility for

Due to the high eff ic iency of these engines,
the engine may not always reac h opera ting
t em perature i n cold outside tempe ra tur es.
This is normal and not a cause for con cern .
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev ­
olutions per minute (RPM).
You shou ld shift to the next lowest gea r whe n
the speed is below 1,S00 R PM. T he begin ning of
the re d zone in the tachome ter ind icates the
maximum permissible engine speed fo r all gea rs
once the engine has been bro ken in and when it is
warmed up to operating temperature . Before
reaching the red zone, you should shift into the
next h igher gea r, c hoose the Dor S selecto r lever
position, or remove your foot from the accelera­
tor pedal.

Upshifting early helps you to save fuel and re­

Indicator Lights
· Description
The ind icator lights in the instrument cluster
bl ink or tur n on. They ind icate fu nctions or mal­
funct io ns.
Messages may appear w ith some indicator lights.
A war ning s ignal will sound at the same time.
The ind icator lights and messages i n the instru­
ment clus ter d isp lay can be cove red by ot he r dis ­
plays. To show them ag ai n, se lec t t he tab for in ­
dicator lights and messages using the mu ltifu nc­
tion steering whee l
c> page 21. If there are sev­
eral ma lfunctions, you can display them one at a
time us ing the thumbwheel.
Some indicator lights in the d isplay can disp lay in

Central indicator light

If a message appears together with a central in­
dicator light . or

will indicate the priority of the warning. If a

function in the ABS system or electronic differen­
tial lock. This also causes the ESC to malfunct ion .
The brakes st ill function with their normal power,
but ABS is not act ive.
Drive to an authorized Audi dea ler or authorized
Aud i Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.
_&. WARNING
If the 1111 (USA models)/ . (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicator light turns on to­
gether with the ABS and ESC indicator lights,
the ABS and ESC regulating function may
have malf uncti oned. Functions that stabilize
the vehicle are no longer available . This could
cause the vehicle to swerve, which increases
the risk that the vehicle will slide. Drive care­
fully to the nearest authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility and have the
ma lfunction corrected.

The
II (USA models) / m (Canada mode ls) indi­
cator light monitors the safety systems.
If the
II (USA mode ls)/ m (Canada models) in ­
dicator light turns on or blinks, there is a mal­
function in a safety system such as the airbag or be lt tensioner system .
Drive to an authorized Audi dea ler or authorized
Audi Service Facility immediately to have the
malfunction corrected.
_&. WARNING
Have the malfunction in the safety systems
inspected immediately . Otherwise, there is a
r isk that the systems may not activate during

turns on when the ignition is switched on .
If the indicator light does not turn on or blinks
whi le driving, there is an engine control malfunc­
tion .

dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to have
the malfunction cor rected.
a Malfunction indicato r lamp (MIL)
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is part of
the On Board Diagnostic system (080 II) . The
('4 c;ymbol turns on when the ignition is switched
on and turns off aga in once the engine is started
and running at a steady idle speed . This indicates
that the MIL is function ing correctly.
The ind icator light turns on if there is a malfunc­
t ion in the engine electronics . See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility to
have the malfunction corrected. For additional

The diesel pa rticulate fi lter requires regene ra ­
tion . To suppo rt the fil ter's se lf-cleaning f un c­
tion :
D rive fo r approximate ly 15 m in utes at 37 mph
(60 km/h) o r above in the S se lector lever posi ­
tion . Keep the eng ine s peed around 2 ,00 0 RPM .
The temperature increase tha t will result from
this can b urn o ff the soot in the filter. The indica ­
tor light will turn off when the cleaning has com­
p leted successf ully.
I f t he i ndicator lig ht does
not tur n o ff, drive im­
mediately to an a utho rized Audi dea ler or a uth or ­
ized A udi Service Faci lity to have the malfunction
corrected.
A WARNING
Always adapt your speed to the cu rrent
weather, road and traffic conditions . You
should never disobey traffic laws in order to
follow driving recommenda tions.

!'7 Engine speed limitation

The engine speed is automatica lly lim ited to the
speed d isplayed in the instrument cluster. T his
protects the eng ine from overheating .
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critica l temperature
range and you have released the acce lerato r ped­
a l once .

If the engine spee d limitation was activa ted by
an engine cont rol malfunct ion, the ~ indicator
li ght a lso turns on. Ma ke sure that the speed
does not go above the speed displayed. Dr ive to

- Do not leave valuables unattended in the ve­
hicle . A locked vehicle is not a safe!
- The LED in the driver 's door rail blinks when
you lock the vehicle . If the LED lights up for
approximately 30 seconds after locking,
there is a ma lfunction in the central locking
system. Have the problem corrected by an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fac ility.

This key is not intended for constant use. It
should only be used in an emergency . Do not car­
ry it on your key ring and do not store it in the ve­
h icle.
Replacing a ke y
If a key is lost, see an authorized Audi dealer or
authorized Audi Service Facility. Have
this key de­
activated . It is important to bring all keys with
you . If a key is lost, you should report it to your
insurance company.
Number of key s
You can check the number of keys ass igned to
your veh icle in the Infotainment system. Select:

El ectronic immobiliz er
The immobilizer p revents unauthorized use of
the ve hicle.
Under certain circumstances, the vehicle may not
be able to start if there is a key from a d ifferent
vehicle manufacturer on the key chain.
Da ta in th e master key
When dr iving, service and maintenance-relevant
data is cont inuous ly stored in your remote con ­
trol key. Your A udi se rvice advisor can read out
th is data and tell you about the work yo ur vehicle
needs . This applies also to veh icles with a con­
venience key *.
Personal convenience sett ings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master k ey. When the ign ition is turned off o r whe n the
vehicle is locked, personal conve nience set tings
for the following systems are stored and as ­
s igned to the remote maste r key .
- Climate cont rol system

- Windows

A lways take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period of
time. This applies particularly when child ren
rema in in the vehicle . Otherwise the children

_& WARNING
-Do not put any hot beverages in the cup
holder while the vehicle is moving. Hot bev­
erages could spill, which can cause injury.
- Do not use any breakable beverage contain­
ers (for example, made out of glass or por ­
celain) . You could be injured by them in the
event of an accident.
0 Note
Beverage containers in the cup holders should
always have a lid . If not, beverages could spill
and cause damage to vehicle equipment, such
electronics or seat covers .
Cooled glove compartment
Applies to: veh icles with cooled glove compartment
The cooled glove compartment only functions
when the
AIC system is switched on.

~ Turn the knob@ counter-clockwise to switch
the cooling on . The symbols on the knob indi­
cate the correct position.
~ Turn the knob @ clockwise to switch the cool-
ing off .
The glove compartment cooling mode only func­
tions when the vehicle A/C system is switched on .
If the heating is switched on, switching the glove
compartment cooling mode off is recommended.
Other storage compartments
You will find a range of storage compartments
and holders at different locations in the vehicle.

- Garment hooks on the sides of the pillars in the
rear of the vehicle and in the rear grab handles
- Compartment in the rear center armrest
- Two folding hooks*, that are at the upper side
of the luggage compartment
_& WARNING
- To reduce the risk of personal injury in an
accident or sudden stop, always keep the
glove compartment closed while driving.
- Always keep the lid of the compartment for
(sun)glasses* closed while driving to reduce
the risk of injury during a sudden braking
maneuver or in the event of an accident .
- Any articles of clothing that you have hung
up must not interfere with the driver's view.
The coat hooks are designed only for light­
weight clothing. Never hang any clothing
with hard, pointed or heavy objects in the pockets on the coat hooks. During sudden
braking or in an accident -especially if the
airbag is deployed - these objects could in­
jure any passengers inside the vehicle .
- Read and follow all WARNINGS

on the side airbag system.
- Hang clothes in such a way that they do not
impair the driver 's vision .

- The coat hooks must only be used for light­
weight clothing . Do not leave any heavy or
sharp edged objects in the pockets which
may interfere with the side curtain airbag
deployment and can cause personal injury in
a crash.
- Do not use coat hangers for hanging cloth­
ing on the coat hooks as this can interfere
