A WARNING
- Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chil­
dren rema in in the vehicle . Otherwise ch il­
dren could start the engine or operate elec­
trical equipment (such as power windows),
wh ich increases the r isk of an accident. The
power windows continue to function unti l
the driver 's door or front passenger 's doo r
has been opened .
- Pay carefu l attention when closing the win­
dows . Pinching co uld cause injuries.
- When loc king the vehicle from outside, the
vehicle must be unoccupied since the win­ dows can no longer be opened in an emer­
gency .

After turning the ignition off, you can still
open and close the windows for approximate­
ly 10 minutes. The power windows do not
switch off unt il the driver's door or front pas ­
senger's door has been opened .

lessly or in an uncontrolled manner, s ince

- For secur ity reasons, the windows and the
roof* can only be opened and closed with
the remote control key at a maxim um dis ­
tance of approximately 6 feet (2 m) away
from the vehicle . Always pay attention when
using the
rn button to close the windows
and the roof* so that no one is pinched. The
clos ing process will stop immediately when
the
l'.D button is released .
Correcting power window malfunctions
After disconnec ting the vehicle bat tery , the one­
touch up and down fea ture mus t be ac tiva ted
again .
.. Pull the power window switch up until the win­
dow is completely raised .
.. Release the switch and pull it up aga in for at
least one second .

Open ing and closing

Always close your sliding/tilting sunroof when
l eaving your vehicle. Rain can cause damage
to the interior equipment of your vehicle, par­
ticularly the electronic equipment.

- For information regarding conven ience
opening and closing, refer to

-You can still operate the sliding/tilting sun­
roof for about 10 minutes after the ignition
is switched off. The switch is deactivated
once the driver's or front passenger's door is
opened.
- The sunroof will only open down to -20

Sliding/tilting sunroof emergency
operation
Applies to: vehicles with sliding/tilt ing sunroof
If an object is detected when closing , the roof
will open again automatical ly. In this case, you
can then close it with the power emergency clos­
ing function.
.,. Within five seconds after the sunroof opens au­
tomatically, pull the applicable button until the
roof is closed.
Valet parking function
Applies to: vehicles with Valet Parking function
The valet parking function protects the luggage
compartm ent from unauthorized access.

the function is sw itched on, the vehicle can be
driven, locked and unlocked us ing the master
key, but access to the luggage compartment is not permitted .

Garage door opener

Description

With the garage door op ener (Homelink) , you
can activate systems such as the garage doors,
security systems or house lights from inside your
vehicle. Three buttons are integrated i n the head­
liner that can be programmed to up to three re­
mote controls .
To be able to operate systems using the garage door opener, the buttons in the headliner must
first be programmed .
A WARNING
When operating or programming the garage
door opener, make sure that no people o r o b­
jects a re in the immediate area of the sys tem.
P eop le can be injured or property can be dam­
aged i f str uck when closing.

The front lights a re adjusted au toma tically so
that there is less g lare fo r the d river from his o r
her ow n lights , fo r example when roads are wet .
Automatic dynamic headlight range control*
Your vehicle is equipped with a headlight range
contro l system so that there is les s glare fo r on­
com ing t raff ic if the vehicle load changes . Th e
headlight range also adjusts automatically when
braking and accelerat ing.
Static cornering light *
The static co rnering light may be available de­
pend ing on veh icle equipment and it only works
whe n the light swi tc h is in the AUTO position. The
cornering light switches on automatica lly at
spe eds up to approximately 44 mph (70 km/h) at
spec ific steering wheel ang les and at speeds up
to approximate ly 25 mph (40 km/h) when you
turn on a turn signal. The a rea to the side of the
vehicle is illuminated better when turni ng.
_& WARNING
- Automatic headlights are only intended to
assis t the driver. They do not relieve the
d river of respo nsib ility to chec k the he ad­
lights and to t urn them on m anu ally based
on t he cur re nt ligh t and v is ib ility condi tions.
F or e xamp le, fog cannot be detected by t he
light sensors . So always switch on the low
beams under these weather condit ions and
when dr iv ing in the dark

- The rear fog lights sho uld only be turned on
in accordance w ith traffic regulations, to
prevent glare for traffic behind your vehicle.
- Always observe lega l regulat ions when us­
ing the lighting systems desc ribed.
(D Tips
- The lig ht sensor for the a utomat ic head ­
lights is located in the rearview mi rror
mount. Do not p lace any st ic kers in this area
on the w indshield.
- Some exter ior light ing funct io ns can be ad­

-If you turn off the ignition while the exterior
lights are on and open the door, a warning
tone sounds.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights , turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after switching them on. This
does not affect the service life of the light­
ing .
Turn signal and headlight lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher.

The headlight assistant automatically turns the
high beams on or off depending on the surround­
ing conditions .

A camera on the rearview mirror mount can de­
tect light sources from other road users. The high
beams switch on or off automatically depending
on the position of vehicles driving ahead and on­
coming vehicles, the vehicle speed and other en­
vironmental and traffic conditions.
Activating headlight assist
Requirement: the light switch must be set to the
AUTO position and the headlight assist must be switched on in the Infotainment system
r=;, page 52.

Front pa ssenger's e xterior mirror tilt
function*
To he lp you see the curb when back ing into a
pa rking space, t he surface of the mirror tilts
slightly . Fo r th is to happen, the knob m ust be in
the posit io n for the front passenger 's ou tside
mirror.
You can adjust the t ilted m irror surface by turn­
i n g the knob in the desi red direction . When you
move ou t of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is sto red and assigned to the
k ey yo u are using.
The mir ror goes back into its o rig inal position
once yo u drive forward f aster than 9 mph
(15 km/h) or turn the ignition off .
A WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (for examp le convex)
en large the f ield of vision . However, they
make objects in the mirror appear sma ller
and farther away. Your may estimate i ncor­
rectly when you use these m irrors to ga uge
your dis tance from the vehicles behind you
when changing lanes, wh ich increases the r is k
of an accident.

- Applies to vehicles with power folding out ­
s ide mir rors* : if the mirror housing was
moved by outside forces (such as an impa ct
whe n maneuvering), yo u m ust use the pow­
e r folding func tion to fol d the mi rror a ll t he

when they latc h into place . The mir ror hous ­
ing must not be moved back into place by

was h, you must fold the exter ior mir rors in
to reduce the r isk of damage to the m irrors.

Dimming the mirror
Your vehicle is equipped with a manual or auto­
matic* dimming rearview mirror .

If the g lass on an a utomatic dimming m irro r
b reaks, electro lyte can leak out. T his liquid
can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory sys­
tem. If there is contact w ith the fluid, flush
i mmedia tely w ith p lenty of water. Consult a
p hysic ian if necessa ry .
- Re peated or long -term exposure to e lectro­
ly te fl uid can lead to ir rita tion of the air­
ways, especia lly in peopl e with ast hma o r
o ther respiratory condi tions. Take deep
b rea ths immedi ately afte r leaving the vehi ­
cle or, if this is not poss ible, open all of the
doors and w indows as wide as possib le .
