Available drive modes
HYBRID
This is the default mode. The vehicle normally starts in
Hybrid mode 4
. The
engine management system uses both the elec- tric motor and gasoline engine (separately or intandem) and calculates the optimal levels of per-formance, fuel consumption and comfort. Athigher speeds, ground clearance is reducedautomatically to help reduce wind resistance. The amount of driving done using only the elec- tric motor in
Hybrid mode is determined by the
hybrid battery's charge level and the need for heating/cooling in the passenger compartment. If sufficient electrical energy is available, only the electric motor will be activated when the driverpresses the accelerator pedal up to a certainlevel. Above this level, the gasoline engine willstart.The instrument panel gauge when both the electric motor and gasoline engine are being used
The long needle in the gauge indicates the amount of energy that the vehicle is currentlyusing. The short white line between the "light-ning" and "oil drop" symbols indicates theamount of energy available. The gasoline engine starts when the response required when the driver presses the acceleratorpedal cannot be provided by the electric motoralone. The gauge also indicates when the battery is being recharged (regenerated) during light brak-ing. See the article "Brakes" for additional infor-mation. When the hybrid battery's charge level is low, thegasoline engine will start more often to help con-serve electrical energy. Charge the battery withthe charging cable as soon as possible or switch to the
Save drive mode.
PURE
This mode activates the electric motor only with as low energy consumption as possible and thelowest possible carbon dioxide emissions. Ground clearance will be lowered to help reduce wind resistance and certain climate system func-tions will be reduced.
Pure mode is available when the hybrid battery is
sufficiently charged. If the level gets too low, the gasoline engine will start. The gasoline engine will also start: • If the vehicle's speed goes above approx. 75 mph (125 km/h)
• If the driver wants more response than theelectric motor alone can provide
• If factors such as cold weather, etc., affectthe system or components
To restart the climate system functions that have been reduced in the mode, press the,
AUTO or
defroster buttons.

• Hitting curbs or potholes can damage thetires and/or wheels permanently.
Tire rotationYour vehicle has no required tire rotation. Tire wear is affected by a number of factors such astire inflation, ambient temperature, driving style,etc.
NOTE
• If the tires are rotated, they should only be moved from front to rear or vice versa.They should never be rotated left toright/right to left.
• Ideally, tire rotation should be done thefirst time after approximately 3,000 miles(5,000 km) and thereafter at 6,000-mile(10,000-km) intervals. Some customersfind that tire rotation may help to getextra mileage from tire life.
• Tire rotation should only be performed iffront/rear tire wear is fairly even andtread height is above 1/16" (1.6 mm).
Storing wheels and tiresWhen storing complete wheels (tires mounted on rims), they should be suspended off the floor orplaced on their sides on the floor. Tires not mounted on rims should be stored ontheir sides or standing upright, but should not besuspended.
CAUTION
Tires should preferably be stored in a cool, dry, dark place, and should never be stored inclose proximity to solvents, gasoline, oils, etc.

How do states use OBD II for emission
inspections?
Many states connect a computer directly to a vehicle's OBD II system. The inspector can thenread "faults." In some states, this type of inspec-tion has replaced the tailpipe emission test.
How can my vehicle fail OBD II emission
inspection?
Your vehicle can fail OBD II emission inspection for any of the following reasons.
• If your Check Engine (MIL) light is lit, your vehicle may fail inspection.
• If your vehicle's Check Engine light was lit,but went out without any action on your part,OBD II will still have a recorded fault. Yourvehicle may pass or fail, depending on theinspection practices in your area.
• If you had recent service that required dis-connecting the battery, OBD II diagnosticinformation may be incomplete and "notready" for inspection. A vehicle that is notready may fail inspection.
How can I prepare for my next
OBD II
emission inspection?
• If your Check Engine (MIL) light is lit – or was lit but went out without service, have yourvehicle diagnosed and, if necessary, servicedby a qualified Volvo technician.
• If you recently had service for a lit CheckEngine light, or if you had service that required disconnecting the battery, a periodof driving is necessary to bring the OBD IIsystem to "ready" for inspection. Two half-hour trips of mixed stop-and-go/highwaydriving are typically needed to allow OBD II toreach readiness. Your Volvo retailer can pro-vide you with more information on planning atrip.
• Maintain your vehicle in accordance with yourvehicle's maintenance schedule.
Owner maintenancePeriodic maintenance requirements and intervals are described in your vehicle's Warranty andService Records Information booklet. The following points can be carried out between the normally scheduled maintenance services.
Each time the car is refueled:
•Check the engine oil level.
• Clean the windshield, windshield wipers, headlights, and taillights.
Monthly:
•
Check cold tire pressure in all tires. Inspect the tires for wear.
• Check that engine coolant and other fluidlevels are between the indicated "min" and"max" markings.
• Clean interior glass surfaces with a glasscleaner and soft paper towels.
• Wipe driver information displays with a softcloth. •
Visually inspect battery terminals for corro-sion. Corrosion may indicate a loose terminalconnector, or a battery near the end of itsuseful service life. Consult your Volvo retailerfor additional information.
As needed:
Wash the car, including the undercarriage, to reduce wear that can be caused by a buildup ofdirt, and corrosion that can be caused by salt res-idues. Clean leaves and twigs from air intake vents at the base of the windshield, and from other placeswhere they may collect.

Booking service and repairs Connected Service Booking (CSB) makes it possible to use the vehicle's Internet connectionto set up a time for service, maintenance and/orrepairs.
The information is handled through the Car
status app, which can be opened from the cen-
ter display's App view. Information about your vehicle is sent to your retailer and you can book your workshop appoint-ment directly in your retailer's workshop planningsystem using the Volvo On-Line Service Schedu-ler with your smart phone. The system will alsosend a reminder as the appointment approachesand the Sensus Navigation system will providedirections to the workshop if necessary. Replacing bulbs
The halogen headlight bulbs can be replaced by the owner.
Before the bulbs can be replaced, that plastic covering over the headlight housing has to beremoved.
To do so:
Lift the rubber strip by pressing in toward the engine compartment.
Release the pins in the plastic covering's four clips by pressing them down with ascrewdriver or similar object and remove thecovering.
The turn signal, high/low beam, Daytime RunningLight and parking light bulbs will be accessiblewhen the plastic covering has been removed. Put the covering back in place in the reverse order.
NOTE
The pins in the clips have to be pressed back completely before the clips are placed in theplastic covering. When the covering is put back in place, the pins must be pressed so that their upper sur-face is flush with the surface of the clip.
NOTE
• For information regarding any bulbs not mentioned in this section, please contactyour Volvo retailer or a trained andauthorized Volvo service technician.
• Always switch off the ignition before star-ting to replace a bulb.
• If an error message remains in the dis-play after a faulty bulb has been replaced,contact an authorized Volvo workshop.
• Condensation may form temporarily onthe inside of the lenses of exterior lightssuch as headlights, fog lights, or taillights.This is normal and the lights aredesigned to withstand moisture. Normally,condensation will dissipate after thelights have been on for a short time.
• The optional Active Bending Light bulbscontain trace amounts of mercury. Thesebulbs should always be disposed of by atrained and qualified Volvo service techni-cian.
CAUTION
Never touch the glass of bulbs with your fin- gers. Grease and oils from your fingers vapor-ize in the heat and will leave a deposit on thereflector, which will damage it.

•The distributor ignition system operates at very high voltages. Special safety pre-cautions must be followed to prevent injury. Always turn the ignition
off when
replacing distributor ignition components e.g. plugs, coil, etc.
• Do not touch any part of the distributorignition system while the engine is run-ning. This may result in unintended move-ments and body injury.
