Refer to “Cancelling the system” on page3-14, “Cancelling the alarm” on page 3-15.NOTEl When lending the vehicle to another person
or allowing the vehicle to be driven bysomeone who is unfamiliar with the securityalarm system, be sure to give the person a
proper explanation of the security alarm sys- tem or set the security alarm system to the
“inactive” mode.
If a person who is unfamiliar with the securi-
ty alarm system accidentally unlocked the vehicle, causing the alarm to sound, the
alarm would be a nuisance to people nearby.Changing the security alarm
settings
E00301601378
It is possible to set the security alarm to the “active” mode or “inactive” mode.
Follow the procedure below. 1. Remove the key from the ignition
switch.
2. Place the lamp switch in the “OFF” posi- tion, and leave the driver’s door open.
3.Pull the windscreen wiper and washer
switch towards you and hold it there.
(Since the ignition switch is in the
“LOCK” position, washer fluid will not be sprayed.)
4. After approximately 10 seconds, the
buzzer will make a sound. Keep the windscreen wiper and washer switch
pulled towards you.
(If the windscreen wiper and washer
switch was released, the setting change
mode would be cancelled. To start over, perform the procedure again from step
3.)
5. When the buzzer stops, with the wind-
screen wiper and washer switch stillpulled towards you, press the UNLOCKswitch (A) on the keyless entry switch toselect the security alarm settings mode.

Windscreen washer
E00507200528
The washer fluid will be sprayed onto the
windscreen by pulling the lever towards you.
The wipers operate automatically several times while the washer fluid is being sprayed.
On a vehicle equipped with the headlamp
washer, the headlamp washer operates to- gether with the windscreen washer the first time the windscreen washer is used if the
headlamps are on.
CAUTIONl If the washer is used in cold weather, the
washer fluid sprayed against the glass may
freeze resulting in poor visibility. Heat the
glass with the defroster or demister before using the washer.Rear window wiper and wash-
er

The rear window wiper and washer switch
can be operated with the ignition switch in
the “ON” or “ACC” position.
INT-The wiper operates continuously for several seconds then operates inter- mittently at intervals of about every
8 seconds.OFF-Off-The washer fluid will be sprayed on-
to the rear window when the knob is turned fully in either direction.
The wipers operate automatically
several times while the washer fluid is being sprayed.NOTEl To ensure a clear rearward view, the wiper
performs several continuous operations
when the reverse gear is engaged while the
switch is in the “INT” position.
Following this continuous operation, the wiper will automatically switch to intermit-
tent operation.
l It is possible to activate the following func-
tions. For further information, we recom-
mend you to consult a MITSUBISHI
MOTORS Authorized Service Point.
• Adjustment of the interval for intermittent
operation
• The wipers can be changed to continuous
operation by turning the knob at the end of the lever twice to the --- (intermittent operation) position. (Continuous opera- tion mode)

using wipers and washers
E00507601297
l If the moving wipers become blocked
partway through a sweep by ice or other deposits on the glass, the wipers maytemporarily stop operating to prevent the
motor from overheating. In this case,
park the vehicle in a safe place and turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” posi-
tion, and then remove the ice or other
deposits.
The wipers will start operating again af- ter the wiper motor cools down, so
check that the wipers operate before us-
ing them.
l Do not use the wipers when the glass is
dry. They may scratch the glass surface
and the blades wear out prematurely.
l Before using the wipers in cold weather,
check that the wiper blades are not fro-
zen onto the glass. The motor may burn out if the wipers are used with the blades
frozen onto the glass.
l Avoid using the washer continuously for
more than 20 seconds. Do not operate the washer when the fluid reservoir isempty.
Otherwise, the motor may burn out.
l Periodically check the level of washer
fluid in the reservoir and refill if re-
quired.
During cold weather, add a recommen- ded washer solution that will not freeze
in the washer reservoir. Failure to do so
could result in loss of washer function and frost damage to the system compo- nents.Wiper de-icer switch*
E00507700103
The wiper de-icer switch can be operatedwith the ignition switch in the “ON” position.
When the front wipers have frozen to the windscreen at the parked positions, turning
on this switch will heat the windscreen to make the wipers operable. Press the switch
and the deicer will operate and turn on the in- dication lamp (A).

CAUTIONlFor effective anti-corrosion and anti-freeze
performance, keep the anti-freeze concentra-
tion within the range of 30 to 60 %.
Concentrations exceeding 60 % will result in
a reduction of both the anti-freeze and cool- ing performance thus adversely affecting the
engine.
l Do not top up with water only.
During cold weather
The concentration should be checked before
the start of cold weather and anti-freeze add-
ed to the system if necessary to prevent dam-
age to engine and radiator due to freezing.

Windscreen washer fluid
The windscreen washer fluid reservoir is inthe engine compartment.
Check the washer fluid level at regular inter-
vals and add washer fluid to reservoir if nec- essary.NOTEl The washer fluid container serves the wind-
screen and headlamps (if so equipped).Rear window washer fluid

If the level is low, replenish the contain-
er with washer fluid.

During cold weather
E01006600019
To ensure proper operation of the washers at
low temperatures, use a fluid containing ananti-freezing agent.Brake fluid
E01000900847
To check the fluid level
The brake fluid level is monitored by a float.
When the brake fluid level falls below the “MIN” mark, the brake fluid warning lamp
lights up.
The brake fluid level must be between the
“MAX” and “MIN” marks on the reservoir.LHDRHD
If the level is below the “MIN” mark, check
according to the following procedure: 1. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK”
or “ACC” position.
2. Repeatedly depress the brake pedal until
significant resistance is felt (normally af-
ter about 40 times).
3. Check the brake fluid level in the reser-
voir.
The brake fluid level must be between the “MAX” and “MIN” marks on the
reservoir.
The fluid level falls slightly with wear of the brake pads, but this does not indicate any ab-
normality.
If the brake fluid level falls markedly in a short length of time, it indicates leaks from
the brake system.
If this occurs, we recommend you to have the vehicle checked.
Fluid type
Use brake fluid conforming to DOT3 or
DOT4 from a sealed container. The brake
fluid is hygroscopic. Too much moisture in the brake fluid will adversely affect the brake
system, reducing the brake performance.
CAUTIONl Take care in handling brake fluid as it is
harmful to the eyes, may irritate your skin
and also damage painted surfaces.
