The seat belt webbing
may be cleaned with
mild soap or detergent solution. Do not use anorganic solvent. Allow the belts to dry in the shade. Do not allow them to retract until com- pletely dry. Do not attempt to bleach or re-dye the belts. The color may rub off and the webbing strength may be affected.
Regularly check your seat belt buckles and their release mechanisms for positive engage-ment and release of the latch plate. Check the retractors for automatic locking when in the Automatic Locking Retractor function. The entire seat belt assembly should be replaced if the webbing shows any obvious cuts, tears, increase in thickness in any sec- tion of the webbing from broken fibers, orsevere fading from sunl
ight. All of these con-
ditions indicate a we
akening of the belt,
which may adversely affect seat belt perfor- mance in an accident.

d with a Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS), which includes air- bags for the driver and passengers.
The SRS front airbags are designed to supple- ment the primary protection of the driver andfront passenger seat
belt systems by provid-
ing those occupants wi
th protection against
head and chest injuries
in certain moderate to
severe frontal collisions. The SRS front air- bags, together with sens
ors at the front of the
vehicle and sensors attached to the frontseats, form an advanced airbag system. The SRS side airbags and the curtain airbags are also designed to supplement the seat belts. The SRS side airbags provide the driver and front passenger with protection against chest injuries by deploying the bag on the sideimpacted in moderate
to severe side impact
collisions. The SRS curtain airbags provide the driver and the passengers on the front seatand the second row outboard seats with pro- tection against head injuries by deploying the curtain airbag on the si
de impacted in moder-
ate to severe side imp
act collisions and by
deploying both curtain
airbags when a roll-
over is detected. The curtain airbags are alsodesigned to help reduce the risk of complete and partial ejection fro
m the vehicle through
side windows in both side impact and roll-over type accidents. The SRS airbags are NOT a substitute for use of the seat belts. For maximum protection in all types of accident

WA R N I N G Any maintenance performed on or near the components of the SRS should be per-formed only by an
authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer. Do not permit anyone else to do any service, inspection, maintenanceor repair on any SR
S components or wir-
ing. Similarly, no part of the SRS should ever be handled, removed or disposed byanyone except an au
thorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer. Improper work meth
ods on the SRS com-
ponents or wiring could result in an acci- dental airbag deployment or could make the SRS inoperable. Ei
ther of these situa-
tions could result in serious injury or death. Do not modify your steering wheel or any other SRS component or related vehicle part. For example, replacement of thesteering wheel, or modifications to the front bumper or body structure can adversely affect SR
S performance and
may lead to injury. If your vehicle has
received any damage,
you should have the
SRS inspected by an
authorized Mitsubishi
Motors dealer to
make sure it is in
proper work
ing order.
Do not modify your front seats, center pil- lar or center console. Such modificationscan adversely affect

Your vehicle has been
designed primarily for
use on pavement. But its unique 4 -wheel
drive system allows
you to occasionally travel on unpaved roads, to campgrounds, picnic
sites, and similar
locations.Not only does this ensure better handling on dry, paved roads but al
so permits better trac-
tion when driving on slippery, wet or snow- covered roads and when moving out of mud.But it is not suitable for heavy off road use or towing in rough conditions. It is particularly im
portant to note that 4-
wheel drive may not gi
ve sufficient hill
climbing ability and e
ngine braking on steep
slopes. You should try to avoid driving onsteep slopes. Also, you must exercise caution when driving on sand and mud and when driving through water because sufficie
nt traction may not be
available in certain circumstances.Please avoid driving the vehicle through areas where the tires may get stuck in deep sand or mud.
When the ECO mode switch is ON
NOTE
 If the drive mode is switched in any mode after the drive mode is switched in “AWCECO”, the drive mode will not be changed even if the ECO mode switch is switched OFF.

Your vehicle may not provide sufficient hill climbing ability and engine braking on steep slope. Avoid driving on steep slopes even though the vehicle is an 4-wheel drive vehi-cle.

absolutely necessary. If driving through wateris unavoidable, use the following procedure:
Check the depth of the water and the terrain before attempting to drive through it. Driveslowly to avoid creating excessive water splashing.

After operating the vehicle in rough road con- ditions, be sure to perform the followinginspection and maintenance procedures:
 Check that the vehicle has not been dam- aged by rocks, gravel, etc. Carefully wash the
vehicle with water.
Drive the vehicle sl
owly while lightly
depressing the brake pedal in order to dryout the brakes. If the brakes still do not function properly, contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facil-ity of your choice as soon as possible to have the brakes checked.  Remove the insects, dr
ied grass, etc. clog-
ging the radiator core.  After driving through water, check the engine, transaxle and
differential oil. If
the oil or grease is milky or cloudy because of water cont
amination, it must
be replaced with new oil.  Check the inside of the vehicle. If water entry is found, dry the carpet etc. Inspect the headlights. If water is in the headlight housing, have it drained at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility of your choice.
NOTE
 Avoid sudden braking,
sudden acceleration
and sharp turning; such operations couldresult in the vehicle becoming stuck.  If the vehicle become
s stuck in sandy or
muddy roads, it can often be moved with arocking motion. Move the selector lever alternately between the “D” (DRIVE) and “R” (REVERSE) positi
ons while pressing
lightly on the ac
celerator pedal.
 Driving on rough road can cause rust on the vehicle; wash the vehi
cle thoroughly as soon
as possible after such use.
Climbing/descending sharp grades Driving through water
CAUTION Never drive through water that is deep enough to cover wheel hubs, axles or exhaust pipe. Do not change th
e selector lever posi-
tion while driving through water. Frequent driving through water can adversely affect the life
span of the vehicle;
consult an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facili
ty of your choice and
take the necessary measures to prepare,inspect, and repair the vehicle. After driving through water, apply the brakes to be sure they are
functioning properly. If
the brakes are wet a
nd not functioning prop-
erly, dry them out by driving slowly whilelightly depressing the brake pedal. Inspect each part of the vehicle carefully.
