The engine is warmed up enough for driv- ing when the bar graph of engine coolant temperature display starts to move. A lon-ger warm up period will only consume extra fuel.

There is usually no need to depress the accel- erator pedal when starting the engine. The starter should not be run for more than 15 seconds at a time.To prevent battery drain, wait a few seconds between attempts to restart the engine. 1. Make sure all occupants are properly seated with seat belts fastened 2. Insert the ignition key. 3. Make sure the parking brake is applied.4. Press and hold the brake pedal downfirmly with your right foot. 5. Press and hold the clutch pedal all the way down (manual transaxle). 6. On vehicles with manual transaxle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position.On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT), make sure the selec- tor lever is in the “P” (PARK) position.

For models equipped with a manual trans- axle, the starter will not operate unless the clutch pedal is fully depressed (Clutch inter-lock). This is a safety feature.

When the selector lever cannot be shifted from the “P” (PARK) position to another position while the brake pedal is pressed and held down with the ignition switch at the“ON” position, the battery may be flat or the shift-lock mechanism may be malfunction- ing.Immediately have your vehicle checked by anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice. If you need to move the vehicle, shift theselector lever as follows. 1. Make sure the parking brake is fully applied. 2. Stop the engine if it is running.3. Insert a screwdriver with a cloth over its tip into the notch (A) of the cover. Pry gently as shown to remove the cover.
4. Depress the brake pedal with the right foot. 5. Turn the ignition switch to the “ACC”position. 6. Insert a screwdriver in the shift-lock release hole (B). Shift the selector lever to the “N” (NEUTRAL) position whilepressing the screwdriver down.
Set the selector lever in the gate to operate.
WA R N I N G Always depress the brake pedal when shifting the selector lever into a selectorposition from the “P” (PARK) or “N” When beginning to drive, do not shift theselector lever from the “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) position while depress- ing the accelerator pedal. Doing so is dan-gerous because the vehicle will “jump” forward or backward.NOTE
To ensure proper transmission operation, stop at each detent position when shifting. After shifting, check the position in the multi-information display. If the brake pedal is not depressed and held, the shift-lock device activates to prevent theselector lever from being moved from the “P” (PARK) position. 2. Accelerate or decelerate to your desired speed, then press and release the “COAST SET” switch (B) when the “CRUISE” indicator light is illuminated. The vehiclewill then maintain the desired speed.

If the battery voltage is insufficient, the memory data for the cruise control will beerased. As a result, the “CRUISE” control indicator may not come on when you restart the engine. If this happens, press the “ONOFF” switch once again to activate the cruise control.

The speed when you released the “COAST SET” switch will be set as the cruising speed.

The tire pressure monitoring system may not work normally in the following circum-stances: A wireless facility or device using the same frequency is near the vehicle. Snow or ice is stuck inside the fenders and/or on the wheels. The tire inflation pressure sensor’s battery is dead.
Wheels other than Mitsubishi genuine wheels are being used. Wheels that are not fitted with tire infla- tion pressure sensors are being used. Wheels whose ID co
des are not memo-
rized by the vehicle are used. Compact spare tire is fitted on a road wheel. A window tint that affects the radio wave signals is installed.

This displays the average fuel consumption from the last reset to the present. There are 2 types of mode settings as follows.For details on how to change the average fuel consumption display setting, refer to “Chang- ing the function settings (With ignition switchin the “ON” position)” on page 5-105. The “ ” mark in the momentary fuel gauge shows the average fuel consumption. (Type 2)
When the average fuel consumption is being displayed, if you hold down the multi-information meter switch, the aver- age fuel consumption displayed at thattime is reset. When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position from the “ACC” or“LOCK” position, the mode setting changes automatically from manual to auto. Switching to auto occurs automatically. Ifswitching to manual mode is done, how- ever, the data from the last reset is dis- played. When the average fuel consumption is being displayed, if you hold down the multi-information meter switch, these cal- culations will be reset to zero. When the ignition switch has been set to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position for about 4 hours or more, the average speed dis-play will automatically reset.
While driving, the momentary fuel consump- tion is shown with a bar graph.
“---” is displayed when the average speed cannot be measured. The initial (default) setting is “Auto reset mode”. The display setting can be changed to the preferred units (mph or km/h).Refer to “Changing the function settings (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-105. The average speed display memories for auto reset mode and manual reset mode are erasedif the battery is disconnected.
