7. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion and make certain that all warning lights are functioning properly beforestarting the engine.8. Turn the ignition switch to the “START” pedal. Release the key when the enginestarts.
After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditioning blower and rearwindow defogger, are turned off.
2. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with continuously variable transmission (CVT) or the clutch pedal on the vehicles equipped with manual trans-axle, press the accelerator pedal halfway and hold it there, then crank the engine. Release the accelerator pedal, immedi-ately after the engine starts. 3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi-cles equipped with CVT or the clutch pedal on the vehicles
equipped with man-
ual transaxle, push the accelerator pedalall the way down and hold it there, then crank the engine for 5 to 6 seconds. Return the ignition switch to the “LOCK”position and release the accelerator pedal. Wait a few seconds, and then crank the engine again for 5 to 6 seconds whiledepressing the brake pedal or the clutch pedal, but do not push the accelerator pedal. Release the ignition key if theengine starts. If the engine fails to start, repeat these procedures. If the engine still will not start, contact your local Mitsubi-shi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice for assistance.
When the ambient temperature is -4 °F (-20 °C) or lower on vehicles with CVT, itmay not be possible to start from a standstill even with the selector lever in the “D” (DRIVE) or “R” (REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans-axle has not warmed up sufficiently; it does not indicate a problem. If it occurs, place the selector lever in the “P” (PARK) position andlet the engine idle for at least 10 minutes. The transaxle will warm up, and you will be able to start normally.Do not leave the vehicle during warm-up operation.
N00542301102
1. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop. 2. Fully engage the parking brake while depressing the brake pedal. 3. For vehicles with a manual transaxle, turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” posi- tion to stop the engine, and then move thegearshift lever to the 1st (on a uphill) or “R” (Reverse) (on a downhill) position.
NOTE
On vehicles with CVT, the starter will not operate unless the selector lever is in the “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) position. For safety reasons, start the engine in the “P” (PARK) position so that the wheels arelocked.NOTE
Minor noises may be heard on engine start- up. These will disappear as the engine warms up.

In sports mode, the currently selected shift range is displayed on the information screenin the multi-information display.
N00514500287
NOTE
The upward shift may be made automatically in sports mode when the engine revolutions rises and approaches the tachometer’s red zone (the red-colored part of the tachometer dial). Shift ranges can only be selected in a for- ward direction from 1st to 6th. To reverse orpark the vehicle, move the selector lever to the “R” or “P” position. To maintain good running performance, the transmission may refuse to perform an upshift when the sportronic steering wheelpaddle shifter is moved to the “+(SHIFT UP)” position at certain vehicle speeds. Also, to prevent over-revving of the engine, the transmission may refuse to perform a downshift when the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter is moved to the “-(SHIFT DOWN)” position at certain vehicle speeds. When this happens, a buzzer sounds to indicate that a downshift is not going totake place. Do not operate sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter violently. Excessive force could damage the sportronic steering wheel paddle shifter.
Sports mode display
NOTE
While driving in sports mode, the sports mode display may change to show “D” and shifting in sports mode may no longer be possible. This indicates that controls to drive in the “D” position are operating normally in order to lower the temperature of the continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) fluid; it does not indicate a malfunction. Once the temper- ature of the continuously variable transmis-sion (CVT) fluid drops, shifting in the sports mode will be possible again.
Operation of the CVT
CAUTION Before selecting a position with the engine running and the vehicle stationary, fully depress the brake pedal to prevent the vehi- cle from creeping.Do not release the brakes until you are ready to drive away. The vehicle will begin to move as soon as the CVT is engaged, espe-cially when the engine speed is high (fast idle or air conditioning on). Depress the brake pedal with the right foot. Using the left foot could cause driver move- ment delay in case of an emergency. To prevent sudden acceleration, never run the engine at high rpms when shifting fromthe “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion. Operating the accelerator pedal while the other foot is resting on the brake pedal will affect braking efficiency and may cause pre-mature wear of brake pads. Use the selector lever in the correct shift position in accordance with driving condi- tions. Never coast downhill backward in the driv- ing shift position { “D” (DRIVE), “L” (LOW) or sports mode} or coast forward inthe “R” (REVERSE) position. Engine stopping and increased brake pedal and steering effort could lead to an accident.

Contact your Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice for assistance.Refer to “Personalizing the air conditioning switch (Changing the function setting)” on page 7-10.Refer to “Personalizing the air selection (Changing the function setting)” on page 7-9.
NOTE
There is an interior air temperature sensor (A) in the illustrated position. Never place anything over the sensor, since doing so will prevent it from functioning properly.

NOTE
While the engine coolant temperature is low, the temperature of the air from the heater will be cool/cold until the engine warms up, even if you have selected warm air with the dial. When the temperature is set to the highest or the lowest setting under the AUTO opera-tion, the air selection and the air conditioning will be automatically changed as follows. • Quick Heating (When the temperature is set to the highest setting) Outside air will be introduced and the airconditioning will stop. In this case, manual operation is possible. • Quick Cooling (When the temperature is set to the lowest setting) Inside air will be recirculated and the airconditioning will operate. In this case, you cannot select outside air and turn the air conditioning off.
