vehicle
has
seat
belts
and
other
features
that
help
protect
you
and
your
passengers
in
an accident. Seat
belts
are
the
most
important
safety
device.
When
worn
properly
, seat
belts
can
reduce
the
chance
of
serious
injury
or
death
in various
types
of crashes.
For
added
protec-
tion
during
a severe
frontal
collision,
your
vehicle
has
a Supplemental
Restraint
System
(SRS)
with
airbags
for
the
driver
and
passen-
gers.
The
seats,
head
restraints,
and
door
locks
also
are
safety
equipment,
which
must
be
used
correctly
.
Always
check
the
following
before
you
drive:
That
everyone
in your
vehicle
is properly
wearing their seat belt. That
infants
and
small
children
are
prop-
erly
secured
in appropriate
child
restraint
systems in the rear seat. That
all
doors
are
full
y closed
and
locked.
That
seatbacks
are
upright,
with
head
restraints properly adjusted.

performance

accident

affected

seatbacks
are reclined.

seat
belt
is not
properly
positioned
against

body

head
restraints
for
the
seats
can
reduce
the
risk
of
a whiplash
injury
if your
vehicle is hit from the rea
r.
The
head
restraints
are
equipped
in the
illus-
trated position. To maximize
the
effectiveness
of
your
head
restraint,
adjust
the
head
restraint
to
the
proper
position.
For
the
driver
and
front
pas-
senger
, adjust
the
seatbacks
to
the
upright
position
before
adjusting
the
head
restraints.
Sit
back
against
the
seatback
with
your
head
close to the head restraint.
To reduce
the
risk
of
injury
in
an
accident,
adjust
the
head
restraint
height
so
that
the
center
of
the
restraint
is
at
your
eye
level
when
seat
ed.
Any
person
too tall
for
the
restraint
to reach
their
eye
level
when
seated
NOTE
If the seatb
acks
are returne
d using
too
much
force,
this may
cause
the cen
ter seat
belt
to
lock up.
If the seat
belt
locks up,
pull
the seat
belt
once
with
force
and
let
it retract
all
the
way.

the

a neck
injur
y due

a rear impac
t, the
head
restraint
must
be
adjusted
to
the
proper
position
befor

operation
. For
the
driv

be adjuste
d to
the
upright
posi
tion
befor
e adjusting
the
head
restraints.
The
driver
should
never
adjust
the
seat
while
the vehicle is in motion.Driving
without
the
head
restraints
in
place
can
cause
you
and
you
r passengers
serious
injury
or
death
in an accid
ent. To
reduce
the
risk
of
injur
y in an
accid
ent,
always
make
sur
e the
head
restraints
are
installed
and
properly
posi
tione

n
the seat is occupied. Never place a cushi
on
or similar device
on
the
seatbac
k.
Thi

affect

the
distance
between
your
head
and
the
restraint.

it
while
pressing
the
lock
knob

direction
shown

the

After
adjusting
the
height,
push
down
on
the
restraint
to
make
sure
it is locked
in
position.
Press
the
lock
knob
(A)
in
the
direction
shown
by
the
arrows.
Then
pull
the
head
restraint up and out of the seatback.
First
check
that
the
head
restraint
is facing
in
the
right
direction
as
shown
in
the
previous
illustration,
and
then
insert
it into
the
seat-
back.

The
airbag
control
unit
monitors
the
readiness
of the
electronic
parts
of the
system
whenever
the
ignition
switch
is
in
the
“ON”
or
“ST
ART” position.
These
include
all
of
the
items listed above and all related wiring. The
pre-tensioner
seat
belt
system
will
oper
-
ate
only
when
the
ignition
switch
is
in
the
“ON”
or “ST
ART” position.
When
the
seat
belt
pre-tensioners
activate,
some
smoke
is released
and
a loud
noise
will
be
heard.
The
smoke
is not
harmful,
but
care
should
be
taken
not
to intentionally
inhale
it,
as
it may
cause
some
temporary
irritation
to
people with respiratory problems.
The
pre-tensioners
activate
in
the
event
of
a
moderate-to-severe
frontal
or
side
impact,
even
if the
seat
belt
is not
being
worn.
The
seat
belt
pre-tensioners
may
not
activate
in
certain
types
of
collisions,
even
though
the
vehi
cle
may
appea
r to be
severely
damaged.
Such
non-activation
does
not
mean
some-
thing
is wrong
with
the
seat
belt
pre-tensioner
system,
but
rather
that
the
collision
forces
were
not
severe
enough
or
not
of
the
type
to
activate the system.

To adjust the steering wheel height, release the tilt lock lever while holding the steeringwheel by hand, and raise or lower the steering wheel to the desired height. After adjustment, securely lock the lever bypulling it upward.
CAUTION Before driving, be sure that the parking brake is fully released and brake warning light is off. If you drive without the parking brake fully released, the warning display will appear onthe information screen in the multi-informa- tion display. If a vehicle is driven without releasing theparking brake, the brakes will be overheated, resulting in ineffective braking and possible brake failure.
