The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST is
restricted and warnings may be delayed or
not occur at all:
Rif the road condition is poor, e.g. if the sur-face is uneven or if there are potholes
Rif there is a strong side wind
Rif you have adopted a sporty driving style
with high cornering speeds or high rates of
acceleration
Rif you are predominantly driving slower
than 50 mph (80 km/h) or faster than
112 mph (180 km/h)
Rif you are currently using COMAND or mak-
ing a telephone call with it
Rif the time has been set incorrectly
Rin active driving situations, such as when
you change lanes or change your speed
ATTENTION ASSIST is only an aid to the
driver. It might not always recognize fatigue
or increasing inattentiveness in time or fail to
recognize them at all. The system is not a
substitute for a well-rested and attentive
driver.
Warning and display messages in the
multifunction display
XActivate ATTENTION ASSIST using the on-
board computer (
Ypage 231).
If ATTENTION ASSIST is active, you will be
warned no sooner than 20 minutes after
your journey has begun. You then hear an
intermittent warning tone twice and the
Attention Assist: Take a Break!
message appears in the multifunction dis-
play.
XIf necessary, take a break.
XPress the aor% button to confirm
the message.
On long journeys, take regular breaks in good
time to allow yourself to rest properly. If you
do not take a break and ATTENTION ASSIST
still detects increasing lapses in concentra-
tion, you will be warned again after
15 minutes at the earliest. ATTENTION ASSIST is reset when you con-
tinue your journey and starts assessing your
tiredness again if:
Ryou switch off the engine.
Ryou take off your seat belt and open the
driver's door, e.g. for a change of drivers or
to take a break.
When ATTENTION ASSIST is deactivated, the
é symbol appears in the multifunction
display in the assistance graphics display.
Night View Assist Plus
General notes
In addition to the illumination provided by the
normal headlamps, Night View Assist Plus
uses infrared light to illuminate the road.
Camera ;of Night View Assist Plus picks up
the infrared light and displays a black and
white image in COMAND. The image shown in
COMAND corresponds to a road lit up by high-
beam headlamps. This enables you to see the
road's course and any obstacles in good time. When pedestrian recognition is active, pedes-
trians recognized by the system are visually
highlighted in color in the Night View Assist
Plus display with small frame corners.
iInfrared light is not visible to the human
eye and therefore does not glare. Night
View Assist Plus can therefore remain
switched on even if there is oncoming traf-
fic.

Pedestrian recognition is then switched on
automatically if:
RNight View Assist Plus is activated.
Ryou are driving faster than approximately
6 mph (10 km/h).
Rit is dark.
If pedestrian recognition is active, symbol ;
appears. Persons who are detected are high-
lighted by framing =. If the pedestrian rec-
ognition system has brought a pedestrian to
your attention, look through the windshield to evaluate the situation.
Animal recognition
Animals can be recognized in the following
situations:
Rdarkness
Routside built-up areas
Rbelow an outside temperature of 90 ‡
(32 †)
Nigh tView Assist Pl us can recognize larger
animals such as deer, co wsor horses using
typical characteristics.
The system does not detect:
Rsmaller animals, e.g. dogs and cats
Ranimals whose silhouette is not clearly rec-
ogniza ble
When detecte d,animals are marked with
small color frame corners. Incontrast to
pede strian recognit ion, thereisno separate
stand bysymbol inthe multifunction display.
Activating/deactivating Night View
Assist Plus
Activation conditions
You can only activate Night View Assist Plus if
all of the following cond itions are met:
Rthe ignit ionisswitched on (Ypage 151) or
the engine has been started.
Rthe light switch is intheà orL posi-
tion.
Rreverse gear has not been engaged.
Activating Night View Assist Plus
XPress button :.
The Night View Assist Plus display appears
in the COMAND display.
iThe infrared headlamps only switch onin
the dark from speeds of approximately
6 mph (10 km/h). This means that you do
not have the full visual range whilethe veh i-
cle isstationary and cannot check whether
Night View Assist Plus isworking. The infra-
red headlamps are deactivated at speeds
below 3 mph (5 km/h). The Night View
image continues to be displayed.
Automatic activation
You can use COMAND to select the Night
View Assist Automatic Activation
option. The pedestrian and animal search
function remains active even when the Night
View image is not displayed. In the dark, in
unlit surroundings and at speeds of more than
60 km/h, the Night View image is automati-

The segments between the speed of the
vehicle in front and the stored speed light
up.
Tachometer
!
Do not drive in the overrevving range, as
this could damage the engine.
The red band in the tachometer indicates the
engine's overrevving range.
The fuel supply is interrupted to protect the
engine when the red band is reached.
Outside temperature display
You should pay special attention to road con-
ditions when temperatures are around freez-
ing point.
Bear in mind that the outside temperature
display indicates the temperature measured
and does not record the road temperature.
The outside temperature display is in the mul-
tifunction display (
Ypage 224).
A change in the outside temperature is shown
in the multifunction display after a delay.
Coolant temperature display
GWARNING
Opening the hood when the engine is over-
heated or when there is a fire in the engine
compartment could expose you to hot gases
or other service products. There is a risk of
injury.
Let an overheated engine cool down before
opening the hood. If there is a fire in the
engine compartment, keep the hood closed
and contact the fire department.
!A display message is shown if the coolant
temperature is too high.
If the coolant temperature is over 248 ‡
(120 †), do not continue driving. The
engine will otherwise be damaged. The coolant temperature gauge is in the
instrument cluster on the right-hand side
(
Ypage 41).
Under normal operating conditions and with
the specified coolant level, the coolant tem-
perature may rise to 248 ‡ (120 †).

AMG vehicles.

If the ignition remains switched off for longer
than four hours, the ECO display will be auto-
matically reset.

Displaying the range and current fuel
consumption
Mercedes-AMG vehicles: the menu only dis-
plays approximate range :.
XPress the=or; button on the steer-
ing wheel to select the Trip
menu.
XPress9or: to select the display
with approximate range :and current fuel
consumption ;.
Approximate range :that can be covered
is calculated according to your current driv-
ing style and the amount of fuel in the tank.
If there is only a small amount of fuel left in
the fuel tank, a vehicle being refueled C
appears instead of approximate range :.
Recuperation display =shows you if
energy has been recuperated from the
kinetic energy in overrun mode and saved
in the battery. Recuperation display =
depends on the engine installed and is
therefore not available in all vehicles.
Digital speedometer
XPress the =or; button on the steer-
ing wheel to select the Trip
menu.
XPress the9or: button to select
digital speedometer ;.
Gearshift recommendation :Zcan also
appear in the display.
Observe the information on gearshift rec-
ommendation :when shifting manually
(
Ypage 165).
Mercedes-AMG vehicles: a gearshift rec-
ommendation is shown in the status bar of
the multifunction display and not in the dig-
ital speedometer display.

Deactivating delayed switch-off of the exte-
rior lighting temporarily:
XBefore leaving the vehicle, turn the Smart-
Key to position 0in the ignition lock.
XTurn the SmartKey to position 2in the igni-
tion lock.
The exterior lighting delayed switch-off is
deactivated.
Delayed switch-off of the exterior lighting is
reactivated the next time you start the
engine.
If you have activated the Surround Light‐
ingfunction and you turn the light switch to
Ã, the following functions are activated
when it is dark:
Rsurround lighting: the exterior lighting
remains lit for 40 seconds after unlocking
with the SmartKey. If you start the engine,
the surround lighting is switched off and
automatic headlamp mode is activated
(
Ypage 122).
Rexterior lighting delayed switch-off: the
exterior lighting remains lit for 60 seconds
after the engine is switched off. If you close all the doors and the trunk lid, the exterior
lighting goes off after 15 seconds.
iDepending on your vehicle's equipment,
when the surround lighting and delayed
switch-off exterior lighting are on, the fol-
lowing light up:
RParking lamps
RLow-beam headlamps
RDaytime running lamps
RSide marker lamps
RSurround lighting in the exterior mirrors
Activating/deactivating the interior light-
ing delayed switch-off
If you activate the Interior Lighting
Delayfunction, the interior lighting remains
on for 20 seconds after you remove the
SmartKey from the ignition lock.

mal operating temperature, oil tempera-

If the multifunction display shows oil temper-
ature ?orB in blue, the engine or the
transmission are not yet at normal operating
temperature. Avoid driving at full engine out-
put during this time.
