Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
You can open a door from inside the vehicle
even if it has been locked. You can only open the
rear doors from inside the vehicle if they are notsecured by the child-proof locks (
Ypage 67). If
the vehicle has been locked with the SmartKey
or with KEYLESS-GO, opening a door from the
inside will trigger the anti-theft alarm system.
Switch off the alarm (
Ypage 78).
XTo unlock and open a front door: pull door
handle ;.
If the door is locked, locking knob :pops up.
The door is unlocked and opens.
XTo unlock a rear door: pull door handle;.
Locking knob :pops up and the door
unlocks.
XTo open a rear door: pull door handle;
again.
The door opens.
Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock and unlock the vehicle
from the inside. The buttons are located on both
front doors.
XTo unlock: press button :.
XTo lock:press button ;.
If the front-passenger door is closed, the vehi-
cle locks.
If the driver's door is open, the door stays
unlocked.
Meanwhile, the fuel filler flap will not be locked
or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally from the
inside if the vehicle has been locked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
The doors can be opened from the inside. You
can only open the rear doors from inside the
vehicle if they are not secured by the child-proof
locks (
Ypage 67).
If the vehicle has been locked with the SmartKey
or with KEYLESS-GO, opening a door from the
inside will trigger the anti-theft alarm system.
Switch off the alarm (
Ypage 78).
If a locked door is opened from the inside, the
previous unlock status of the vehicle will be
taken into consideration if:
Rthe vehicle was locked using the locking but-
ton for the central locking, or
Rif the vehicle was locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had previ-
ously been fully unlocked. If only the driver's
door had been previously unlocked, only the
door which has been opened from the inside is
unlocked.

firmly. Do not pull the door handle when doing
so.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock and
open the driver's door, the anti-theft alarm sys-
tem will be triggered. Switch off the alarm
(
Ypage 78).
Locking the vehicle (mechanical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked with the
SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, use the mechanical
key.
XOpen the driver's door.
XClose the front-passenger door, the rear
doors and the trunk lid.
XPress the locking button (Ypage 86).
XCheck whether the locking knobs on the
front-passenger door and the rear doors are
still visible. Press down the locking knobs by
hand, if necessary.
XClose the driver's door.
XTake the mechanical key out of the SmartKey
(Ypage 81).
XInsert the mechanical key as far as it will go
into opening :in the protective cap.
XPull and hold the door handle.
XPull the protective cap on the mechanical key
as straight as possible away from the vehicle
until it releases.
XRelease the door handle.
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock of the
driver's door as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise as far as it
will go to position 1.
The locking knob drops down and the driver's
door is locked.
XTurn the mechanical key back and remove it.
XMake sure that the doors and the trunk lid are locked.
XInsert the mechanical key into the SmartKey
(Ypage 82).
XCarefully press the protective cap onto the
lock cylinder until it engages and is seated
firmly. Do not pull the door handle when doing
so.
If you lock the vehicle as described above, the
fuel filler flap is not locked. The anti-theft alarm system is not armed.
Trunk
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the
trunk lid is open when the engine is running,
especially if the vehicle is in motion. There is a
risk of poisoning.
Always switch off the engine before opening
the trunk lid. Never drive with the trunk lid
open.
GWARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured sufficiently, they could slip, tip

The rear reclining seat is only available in lon g
wheelbase vehicles equipped wit h"executive
seats". On vehicles without arear reclining seat

Vehicles wit h alongwheelbase :depending on
th evehicl eequipment, th erear reclining seat is either only on th
efront-passenger side or also
on th edriver's side .
Mercedes-Maybac hvehicles: th erear reclining
seat is on th edriver's and th efront-passenger
side .
Vehicles wit h alongwheelbase and equipped
wit h a "Rear compartmen tchauffeur/memory
package" also hav e afootrest .This is locate don
th elower part of th efront-passenger seat back-

Setting the reclined position
This function is only available wit hlon gwheel-
base vehicles.
You can use th eoverride butto nto disable this
function (
Ypage 67) .

XPress and hold butto n: until th eseat has

Make sure when adjusting a seat that no one
has any body parts in the sweep of the seat.
Observe the safety notes on "Air bags"
(
Ypage 50) and "Children in the vehicle"
(Ypage 61).
GWARNING
The front-air bags for could also injure the
vehicle occupants in the front If the front
seats are positioned too close to the dash-
board or steering wheel. This poses an
increased risk of injury or even fatal injury.
Always adjust the front seats so that they are
as far from the front air bags as possible. Also
observe the notes on the correct adjustment
of the seats.
!Do not move the front-passenger seat fully
forwards if there are objects in the parcel net
in the front-passenger footwell. The objects
could otherwise be damaged.

button to disable the setting of the front-
