12 V sockets
General notes X
Turn the SmartKey to position 1 in the ignition
lock ( Y
page 162).
The sockets can be used for accessories with a
maximum draw of 180 W (15 A). Accessories
include such items as chargers for mobile
phones.
If you use the sockets for long periods when the
engine is switched off, the battery may dis-
charge.
An emergency cut-out ensures that the on-
board voltage does not drop too low. If the on-
board voltage is too low, the power to the sock-
ets is automatically cut. This ensures that there
is sufficient power to start the engine.

115 V socket
Important safety notes
G DANGER
When a suitable device is connected, the
115 V power socket will be carrying a high
voltage. You could receive an electric shock if
the connector cable or the 115 V power
socket is pulled out of the trim or is damaged
or wet. There is a risk of fatal injury. Features 337

Use only connector cables that are dry and
free of damage. R
When the ignition is off, make sure that the
115 V power socket is dry. R
Have the 115 V power socket checked or
replaced immediately at a qualified speci-
alized workshop if it is damaged or has been
pulled out of the trim. R
Never plug the connector cable into a 115 V
power socket that is damaged or has been
pulled out of the trim.
G DANGER
If you reach into the power socket or plug
inappropriate devices into the power socket,
you could receive an electric shock. There is a
risk of fatal injury.
Only connect appropriate devices to the
power socket.
! Note that work and repairs on the 115 V
power socket should only be carried out by
qualified specialist personnel.
General notes The 115 V power socket provides an alternating
voltage of 115 V so that small electronic devices
can be connected. These devices, such as
games consoles, chargers and laptops, must not
consume more than a maximum of 150 watts
altogether.
Requirements for operation of these devices: R
the electronic device that you connect has a
suitable connector and conforms to stand-
ards specific to the country you are in. R
the plug of the electronic device is plugged
correctly into 115 V power socket. R
the maximum wattage of the device to be
connected must not exceed 150 watts. R
the on-board power supply is within a permis-
sible voltage range. R
the 12 V sockets in the center console in the
front compartment ( Y
page 336) and in the
trunk are functional ( Y
page 337). Using the 115 V power socket
The 115 V socket is in the center console in the
rear compartment on vehicles with a rear bench
seat or electrically adjustable rear seats. X
To switch on: switch the ignition on. X

Problems with the 115 V power socket Problem

The warning lamp on the

If the indicator lamp still does not light up: X
Visit a qualified specialist workshop.
The temperature of the DC/AC converter is temporarily too high. X
Remove the electronic device connector from the 115 V socket. X
Let the DC/AC converter cool down.
If the indicator lamp still does not light up after cooling down the
converter: X
Visit a qualified specialist workshop.
You have connected an electronic device that has a constant nominal
power of less than 150 watts, but has a very high switch-on current.
This device will not work. If you connect such a device, the 115 V
power socket will not supply it with power. X
Connect a suitable electronic device.
Coolbox in the rear compartment
Important safety notes
G WARNING
If you cover the ventilation grille for the cool-
box, it may overheat. There is a risk of fire.
Always make sure that the ventilation grille is
not covered.
The ventilation grille for the coolbox is in the
trunk.
The coolbox can bear a maximum load of 7.7 lb
(3.5 kg).
If you want to store a bottle in the upper com-
partment of the coolbox, the capacity of the
bottle must not exceed 17 fl. oz. (0.5 l).
Store only plastic bottles in the upper compart-
ment of the coolbox. Using the coolbox

Fold the cover out to the front. X
To switch cooling level to low: press but-
ton D once.
An indicator lamp in the button lights up. X
To switch cooling level to high: press but-
ton D twice.
Both indicator lamps in the button light up. X
To switch off cooling: press button D
repeatedly until the indicator lamps go out.
The cooling output of the coolbox depends on
the ambient temperature and the selected cool-
ing level.
The coolbox reduces its cooling output or
switches off, if: R
many electrical consumers are turned on R
the starter battery is not sufficiently charged
This is indicated by the flashing indicator lamps
in the button. The cooling function will automat-
ically switch back on as soon as there is suffi-
cient voltage.
Caring for the coolbox If you do not need to use the coolbox for an
extended period you should switch it off, defrost
it and clean it. After doing so, leave the lid open
for a time. Removing and installing the coolbox
You can remove the coolbox for maintenance
purposes. X
To remove: switch off the coolbox. X
Pull plug D down and out. X
Unscrew both screws

The system is available if: R
it has been activated and is operational R
the corresponding mobile phone network is
available for transmitting data to the Cus-
tomer Center R
a service subscription is available
Determining the location of the vehicle on a map
is only possible if: R
GPS reception is available. R
the vehicle position can be forwarded to the
Customer Assistance Center.
The mbrace system To adjust the volume during a call, proceed as
follows: X
Press the

gered. You cannot end an automatically trig-
gered emergency call yourself.
An emergency call can also be initiated man-
ually.
As soon as the emergency call has been initi-
ated, the indicator lamp in the SOS button
flashes. The Connecting Call message
appears in the multifunction display.
The audio output is muted.
Once the connection has been made, the Call
Connected message appears in the multifunc-
tion display.
All important information on the emergency is
transmitted, for example: R
current location of the vehicle (as determined
by the GPS system) R
vehicle identification number R
information on the severity of the accident
Shortly after the emergency call has been initi-
ated, a voice connection is automatically estab-
lished between the Customer Assistance Center
and the vehicle occupants. R
If the vehicle occupants respond, the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center
attempts to get more information on the
emergency. R
If there is no response from the vehicle occu-
pants, an ambulance is immediately sent to
the vehicle.
If no voice connection can be established to the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center,
the system has been unable to initiate an emer-
gency call.
This can occur, for example, if the relevant
mobile phone network is not available. The indi-
cator lamp in the SOS button flashes continu-
ously.
The Call Failed message appears in the mul-
tifunction display and must be confirmed.
In this case, summon assistance by other
means. Making an emergency call X
To initiate an emergency call manually:
press cover C briefly to open. X
Press and hold the SOS button for at least one
second D .
The indicator lamp in SOS button D flashes
until the emergency call is concluded. X
Wait for a voice connection to the Mercedes-
Benz Customer Assistance Center. X
After the emergency call, close cover C .
If the mobile phone network is unavailable,
mbrace will not be able to make the emergency
call. If you leave the vehicle immediately after
pressing the SOS button, you will not know
whether mbrace placed the emergency call. In
this case, always summon assistance by other
means.
Roadside Assistance button
X
To call Roadside Assistance: press Road-
side Assistance button C .
This initiates a call to the Mercedes-Benz Cus-
tomer Assistance Center.
The indicator lamp in Roadside Assistance
button C flashes while the call is active. The
Connecting Call message appears in the342
