This data can help provide a betterunderstanding of the circumstances inwhich crashes and injuries occur.
Note:Event data recorder data isrecorded by your vehicle only if anon-trivial crash situation occurs; no datais recorded by the event data recorderunder normal driving conditions and nopersonal data or information (e.g., name,gender, age, and crash location) isrecorded (see limitations regarding 911Assist and Traffic, directions andInformation privacy below). However,parties, such as law enforcement, couldcombine the event data recorder datawith the type of personally identifyingdata routinely acquired during a crashinvestigation.
To read data recorded by an event datarecorder, special equipment is required,and access to the vehicle or the eventdata recorder is needed. In addition tothe vehicle manufacturer, otherparties, such as law enforcement, thathave such special equipment, can readthe information if they have access tothe vehicle or the event data recorder.Ford Motor Company and Ford ofCanada do not access event datarecorder information without obtainingconsent, unless pursuant to court orderor where required by law enforcement,other government authorities or otherthird parties acting with lawfulauthority. Other parties may seek toaccess the information independentlyof Ford Motor Company and Ford ofCanada.

GENERAL INFORMATION ON
RADIO FREQUENCIES
This device complies with Part 15 of theFCC Rules and with Industry Canadalicense-exempt RSS standard(s).Operation is subject to the following twoconditions: (1) This device may not causeharmful interference, and (2) This devicemust accept any interference received,including interference that may causeundesired operation.
Note:Changes or modifications notexpressively approved by the partyresponsible for compliance could void theuser's authority to operate the equipment.The term IC before the radio certificationnumber only signifies that Industry Canadatechnical specifications were met.
The typical operating range for yourtransmitter is approximately 33 ft (10 m).Vehicles with the remote start feature willhave a greater range.
One of the following could cause adecrease in operating range:
•Weather conditions.
•Nearby radio towers.
•Structures around the vehicle.
•Other vehicles parked next to yourvehicle.
The radio frequency used by your remotecontrol can also be used by other radiotransmitters, for example amateur radios,medical equipment, wireless headphones,wireless remote controls, cell phones,battery chargers and alarm systems. If thefrequencies are jammed, you will not beable to use your remote control. You canlock and unlock the doors with the key.
Note:Make sure to lock your vehicle beforeleaving it unattended.
Note:If you are in range, the remote controlwill operate if you press any buttonunintentionally.
Intelligent Access (If Equipped)
The system uses a radio frequency signalto communicate with your vehicle andauthorize your vehicle to unlock when oneof the following conditions are met:
•You activate the front exterior doorhandle switch.
•You press the luggage compartmentbutton.
•You press a button on the transmitter.
If excessive radio frequency interferenceis present in the area or if the transmitterbattery is low, you may need tomechanically unlock your door. You canuse the mechanical key blade in yourintelligent access key to open the driverdoor in this situation. See RemoteControl (page 44).
REMOTE CONTROL

Use the key blade to start your vehicle andunlock or lock the driver door from outsideyour vehicle. The transmitter portionfunctions as the remote control.

Brake Coach Display:
The Brake Coach appears after the vehiclehas come to a stop. It coaches you to brakein a manner which maximizes the amountof energy returned through theregenerative braking system. The percentdisplayed is an indication of theregenerative braking efficiency with 100%representing the maximum amount ofenergy recovery.
This feature can be switched on or off inthe information displays settings menu.See General Information (page 93).
Trip Summary:
The Trip Summary displays upon shuttingoff your vehicle. The information iscumulative over the last trip. A new tripbegins each time you start your vehicle(when the Ready to Drive message comeson).
•Distance - Displays the total distancetraveled, distance traveled on batterypower only (EV distance) and Regendistance. Regen distance is theestimated range gained from energyrecaptured through regenerativebraking.
•Energy Use - Displays the average fueleconomy. In addition for Energi,displays the total electrical energy usedwhile in Plug-in Power Mode in kilowatthours (kWh).
•Brake Score - The percent displayed isan indication of the regenerativebraking efficiency for the trip.
Note:Corresponding trip efficiency leavesappear on the right information display uponshutting off your Hybrid vehicle. On Energivehicles the trip efficiency leaves are shownon the right information display when thevehicle operates in Hybrid Mode for theentire trip. For trips with Plug-in Power Modeoperation an estimate of your EV Range/FullCharge is provided along with a listing offactors and their contributions to thisestimate. See Next Full Charge under RightInformation Display in this chapter.

Vehicle Range
Vehicle range indicates the estimateddistance your vehicle will travel with theenergy currently onboard. The range isdisplayed at the bottom of the screen withgasoline range shown in white and electricrange (Energi only) shown in blue.
•Gasoline Range: Is the estimateddistance to empty based on the fuelremaining in the tank.
•Electric Range: Is the estimateddistance you can travel in Plug-InPower Mode with the engine off. Thisrange is based on a calculationdetermined by the amount of energystored in the high voltage battery as aresult of charging while plugged in andthe energy being used while driving.

Efficiency Leaves
Efficiency leaves indicate short term drivingefficiency measured over the last fewminutes. The more leaves and vines thatappear on the display, the better your fueleconomy. Leaves and vines willoccasionally appear and disappear toindicate a change in your driving efficiency.
Fuel History
From left to right this view includes aninstantaneous fuel economy gauge,historical fuel economy data and averagefuel economy. The historical datarepresents an average over time intervalsof either 1, 2 or 6 minutes, with the leftmostinterval being the most recent. Shown atthe bottom of the view is the total time
duration for the 5 intervals. You can selecttotal duration in the options menu.Intervals shown in grey color are from theprevious drive. The blue horizontal linerepresents the average fuel economy valueshown to the right.
Note:Hold OK to reset average fueleconomy.
Coach
This view provides a comparison of yourrecent acceleration, braking and cruisingbehavior, then recommends the mostefficient use of energy under presentconditions. The horizontal bars fill from leftto right with best behavior and appear bluewhen at least half full. When the bars areless than half full, the color is amber,suggesting that you need a change in yourdriving behavior to achieve better energyefficiency.

Information Displays

GENERAL INFORMATION
WARNINGS
Extended idling at high enginespeeds can produce very hightemperatures in the engine andexhaust system, creating the risk of fire orother damage.
Do not park, idle or drive your vehicleon dry grass or other dry groundcover. The emission system heats upthe engine compartment and exhaustsystem, creating the risk of fire.
Do not start the vehicle in a closedgarage or in other enclosed areas.Exhaust fumes can be toxic. Alwaysopen the garage door before you start thevehicle.
If you smell exhaust fumes insideyour vehicle, have your vehiclechecked by an authorized dealerimmediately. Do not drive your vehicle ifyou smell exhaust fumes.
If you disconnect the battery, your vehiclemay exhibit some unusual drivingcharacteristics for approximately 5 miles(8 kilometers) after you reconnect it. Thisis because the engine management systemmust realign itself with the engine. You candisregard any unusual drivingcharacteristics during this period.
The powertrain control system meets allCanadian interference-causing equipmentstandard requirements regulating theimpulse electrical field or radio noise.
When you start the vehicle, avoid pressingthe accelerator pedal before and duringoperation. Only use the accelerator pedalwhen you have difficulty starting thevehicle.
IGNITION SWITCH
0 (off) - The ignition is off.
Note:When you switch the ignition off andleave your vehicle, do not leave your key inthe ignition. This could cause your vehiclebattery to lose charge.
I (accessory) - Allows the electricalaccessories, such as the radio, to operatewhile the engine is not running.
Note:Do not leave the ignition key in thisposition for too long. This could cause yourvehicle battery to lose charge.
II (on) - All electrical circuits areoperational and the warning lamps andindicators illuminate.
III (start) - starts the vehicle into Ready toDrive mode (indicated by the green "Readyto Drive" icon on the instrument cluster).
KEYLESS STARTING (If Equipped)
Note:The keyless starting system may notfunction if the key is close to metal objectsor electronic devices such as cellularphones.
Note:A valid key must be located insideyour vehicle to switch the ignition on andstart the vehicle.
