READ THIS CAREFULLY
REFUELLING
Only refuel with automotive diesel conforming to the European specification EN590. The use of other products or mixtures may damage the
engine beyond repair and consequently invalidate the warranty, due to the damage caused.
STARTING THE ENGINE
Make sure that the handbrake is engaged; set the gear lever to neutral; fully depress the clutch pedal without pressing the accelerator, then
turn the ignition key to MAR-ON and wait for the warning lightsandto switch off; turn the ignition key to AVV and release it as soon as
the engine has started.
PARKING ON FLAMMABLE MATERIAL
The catalytic converter develops high temperatures during operation. Do not park on grass, dry leaves, pine needles or other flammable
material: fire hazard.
RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT
The vehicle is fitted with a system that allows continuous diagnosis of the emission-related components in order to help protect the
environment.
ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES
If, after buying the vehicle, you decide to add electrical accessories (with the risk of gradually draining the battery), visit a Fiat Dealership. They
can calculate the overall electrical requirement and check that the vehicle's electrical system can support the required load.
SCHEDULED SERVICING
Correct maintenance enables the vehicle to perfectly maintain performance and safety characteristics, its environmental friendliness and low
running costs over time.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUR VEHICLE
In-depth knowledge of your new vehicle
starts here.
The handbook that you are reading
simply and directly explains how it is
made and how it works.
That’s why we advise you to read it
seated comfortably on board, so that
you can see immediately what is
described here for yourself.KEYS....................13

CATALYTIC
CONVERTER
The exhaust gas scavenging devices
used with catalytic converter are
extremely efficient for the reduction of
noxious gases. The catalytic converter
is installed in the exhaust system.
It is important to keep the engine
properly tuned to ensure proper catalyst
operation and prevent possible catalyst
damage.
71)
NOTE Use fuel of the type
recommended in “Fuel selection”.
WARNING
71)As with any vehicle, do not park or
operate this vehicle in areas where
combustible materials such as dry grass or
leaves can come in contact with a hot
exhaust since a fire could occur.
DIESEL
PARTICULATE
FILTER (DPF)
(where provided)
The diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a
device that captures most of the
particulate matter (PM) in the exhaust
emissions of the diesel engine. The DPF
automatically burns away trapped PM
during vehicle operation. Under certain
driving conditions, however, the DPF is
not able to burn away all of the trapped
PM and, as a result, an excessive
amount of PM accumulates inside it.
72)
22)
NOTE To minimize the likelihood of
excessive accumulation of PM, try to
avoid driving for long periods at low
speeds and repeatedly driving short
distances.
NOTE The engine sounds slightly
different from usual while the DPF
automatically burns away trapped PM.
The change in the engine sound does
not indicate a fault.
DPF warning lamp
The DPF warning lamp comes on in the
event of an abnormality in the DPF
system. If the DPF warning lamp comes on
during vehicle operation
Steady illumination of the DPF warning
lamp shows that the DPF has not been
able to burn away all of the trapped PM
and that, as a result, an excessive
amount of PM has accumulated inside
it. To enable the DPF to burn away the
PM, try to drive the vehicle as follows:
With the bar graph of engine coolant
temperature display stabilized in roughly
the middle of the scale, drive for about
20 minutes at a speed of at least
40 km/h.
23) 24)
IMPORTANT You do not have to
continuously drive exactly as indicated
above. Always strive to drive safely in
accordance with road conditions.

engine warning lamp flashes, have the
system checked as soon as possible at
an authorised Fiat Dealership.
In diesel-powered vehicles, in case
cetane number (EN590) 51 or higher is
not available, use cetane number 45 or
higher.
In diesel-powered vehicles, poor-quality
diesel fuel can cause deposits form in
the injector, resulting in black smoke
and rough idling. If these problems
occur, you are advised to add a
cleaning additive to the diesel fuel when
you refuel the vehicle. The additive will
break up and remove the deposits,
thereby returning the engine to a normal
condition. Be sure to use a FCA
GENUINE DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM
CLEANER. Using an unsuitable additive
could make the engine malfunction. For
detailed, please contact the nearest
authorised Fiat Dealership.
IMPORTANT
33)For unleaded petrol-powered vehicles,
the use of leaded fuel can result in serious
damage to the engine and catalytic
converter. Do not use the leaded fuel.
34)Do not use more than 10 %
concentration of ethanol (grain alcohol) by
volume. Use of more than 10 %
concentration may lead to damage to your
vehicle fuel system, engine, engine sensors
and exhaust system.35)Do not operate your vehicle on petrol
containing methanol. Using this type of
alcohol could adversely affect the vehicle’s
performance and damage critical parts of
the vehicle’s fuel system.
36)Diesel-powered vehicles to comply with
the Euro 4 and Euro 5 regulation are
designed to use only diesel fuel that meets
the EN 590 standard. Use of any other type
of diesel fuel would adversely affect the
engine’s performance and durability.
37)Your vehicle is designed to use only
diesel fuel that meets the EN 590 standard.
Use of any other type of diesel fuel (bio
diesel, methylester, etc.) would adversely
affect the engine’s performance and
durability.
38)For diesel engines, only use diesel fuel
for motor vehicles in accordance with EN
590 European specifications. The use of
other products or mixtures may damage
the engine beyond repair and consequently
invalidate the warranty, due to the damage
caused. If you accidentally introduce other
types of fuel into the tank, do not start the
engine. Empty the tank. If the engine has
been run for even an extremely limited
amount of time, you must not only drain the
fuel tank, but the rest of the supply circuit
as well.

WARNING
98)There is a danger the road might be
icy, even when this symbol is not flashing,
so please take care when driving.
99)If the engine is overheating, “

blink. In this case, the bar graph is on the
red zone. Immediately park the vehicle in a
safe place and take the required measures.
Refer to “Engine overheating”.
100)The driver should not operate the
display while the vehicle is in motion.
101)When operating the system, stop the
vehicle in a safe area.
IMPORTANT
40)For petrol-powered vehicles with
catalytic converter and for diesel-powered
vehicles: do not drive with an extremely low
fuel level, running out of fuel could cause
damage to the fuel system.
41)The customer is responsible for making
sure that periodic inspection and
maintenance are performed. Inspections
and maintenance must be performed to
prevent accidents and malfunctions.
