The multi-function steering wheel has four but­
tons. You can use it to control the driver infor­
mation system and MMI functions and adjust
the volume.

- Unmute/resume: Scroll the right thumbwheel
upwards. Or: Press the right thumbwheel.

counter
The rev counter indicates the number of engine
revolutions per minute.
The start of the red zone on the dial indicates the
maximum engine speed which may be used brief­
ly in all gears when the engine is warm and after
it has been run in properly. However, it is advisa­
ble to change up a gear or move the selector lev­
er to D/S (or lift your foot off the accelerator) be­
fore the needle reaches the red zone.
Shift light display in the rev counter
Applies to: vehicles with Audi virtual cockpit and shift light
display
The shift light display is only visible in the sport
view* ¢ page 25 when shifting gears in tiptron­
ic mode. Green, yellow and red zones are dis­
played in the high-rev area of the dial. The entire
rev counter flashes in red at engine speeds near
the limit. Remember to shift to the next gear in
good time.
CD CAUTION
The rev counter needle must only ever briefly
go into the red zone on the scale; otherwise
there is a risk of engine damage. The start of
the red zone on the dial is different for some
engine versions.
@ For the sake of the environment
Changing up a gear early will help you to save
fuel and minimise engine noise.

T urn the switch to the appropriate position. The
::oo� symbol lights up when the lights are on.
0 - Lights off (on vehicles for some markets the
daytime running lights* are switched on when
the ignition is switched on).
AUTO* -The automatic headlights switch on (and
off again) automatically according to the ambi­
ent light conditions (for instance at dusk, in the
rain or in a tunnel).

All-weather lights*
On vehicles with all-weather lights, the front
lights are adjusted automatically so that the
headlights on your own vehicle do not blind you,
for instance when driving on a wet road.
Automatic dynamic headlight range control*
Your vehicle is equipped with a headlight range
control to prevent oncoming traffic from being
dazzled when the vehicle is heavily laden. The
headlight beam settings are adjusted automati­
cally (even during braking and acceleration).

This function is not available on all export versions.
44 Light
functions
The following Light functions depend on which
equipment is fitted in your vehicle and work only
when the Light switch is set to AUTO.
Static cornering light (turning light)* (on
vehicles with LED headlights) -the turning Light
is automatically activated when the steering
wheel angle exceeds a specified value (up to
about 70 km/h) or when the turn signals are
switched on (up to about 40 km/h). This feature
provides better illumination at the side of the ve­
hicle when you turn off at a junction.
Motorway light* (on vehicles with LED head­
lights) -this function adjusts the vehicle Lighting
on motorways, according to your speed.
Speed-dependent light distribution* (on
vehicles with LED headlights) -this function ad­
justs the light distribution as required in towns,
on motorways and on other main roads. Intersec­
tions can also be illuminated if your vehicle is
equipped with a navigation system*.
Headlight dip settings for driving at home
and abroad 1
)
If you drive a right-hand drive vehicle in a left­
hand drive country, or vice versa, it is not neces­
sary to adjust the headlights, as they are de­
signed for use when driving on the left or right.
A WARNING
- The automatic headlights* are only intended
to assist the driver. The driver must always
ensure that the headlights are used when
required, and may have to switch them on
manually when the Light conditions or visi­
bility are poor. For example, the light sen­
sors are not able to detect fog. Therefore,
you should always switch on the dipped
headlights io in these conditions and when
driving after dark.
- To avoid dazzling the traffic behind you, the
rear fog light should only be used in accord-
ance with statutory regulations.

rear of the vehicle) from the luggage compart­

� Load up the ski bag.

� Hook each of the attachments on the two fas­
tening belts into the corresponding rear fasten­

A WARNING
The bag must be strapped in place with the
two fastening belts after it has been loaded.

- Fold up the bag only when it is dry.
- Place skis in the bag with their tips facing
forwards and ski poles with their tips facing
backwards.

panel
The Luggage compartment floor panel can be

The tyre pressures should always be checked
when the tyres are cold.
Do not use winter tyres all through the year; they
will increase fuel consumption by up to 10 %.
Avoid carrying unnecessary loads
Every kilo of extra weight will increase the fuel
consumption, so it is worth checking the luggage
compartment occasionally to make sure that no
unnecessary loads are being transported.
Save electrical energy
The engine drives the alternator to generate elec­
tricity. This means that fuel consumption rises
when more power is required for electrical equip­
ment. Switch off electrical equipment when it is
not needed. Electrical equipment which uses a
lot of electricity includes the blower (at a high
setting), the rear window heating and the seat
heating*.
Steering Adjusting the steering wheel position
The height and reach of the steering wheel can
be adjusted as required to suit the driver.

umn until the catch engages.

- Never adjust the position of the steering
wheel when the vehicle is moving - this
could cause an accident.
- Press the lever upwards so it is secure and
so that the position of the steering wheel
cannot shift unexpectedly while the vehicle
is moving -risk of accident!
Starting and stopping
the engine
Starting the engine -
You can use the !START
ENGINE STOP!
button to
switch on the ignition and start the engine.

Switching the ignition on/off
� To switch the ignition on/off, press the
!START ENGINE STOP!
button without pressing
the clutch pedal (manual gearbox) or brake
pedal (automatic gearbox). Diesel engines are
preheated when the ignition is switched on.�

The engine has not yet reached the minimum
temperature required for start/stop mode.
- The interior temperature selected on the air
conditioner has not yet been reached.
- The exterior temperature is very high/Low.
- The windscreen is being defrosted @.
- The parking aid* or park assist* is switched on.
- The vehicle battery charge is too Low.
- The steering wheel is close to full Lock or the
vehicle is being steered.
- Reverse gear has just been selected.
- The vehicle is on a steep gradient.
� will appear in the infotainment display to in­
dicate this status.
Engine cuts in again automatically
The stop phase is interrupted in the following sit­
uations, for example. The engine cuts in auto­
matically without intervention from the driver.
- The vehicle starts to roll (e.g. on a hill).
- The interior temperature deviates from the air
conditioner setting.
- The windscreen is being defrosted @.
- The brake pedal is pressed several times in suc-
cession.
- The vehicle battery charge drops to an insuffi-
cient level.
- The power consumption is high.
Ignition is switched off automatically
To prevent the vehicle battery from being dis­
charged, the ignition will be switched off auto­
matically if certain conditions are met. For in­
stance:
- The vehicle has already been driven.
- The start/stop system has switched off the en-
gine.
- The driver's door is opened.
- The driver's seat belt is unbuckled.
- The brake pedal is not pressed.
- The vehicle is stationary.
If the dipped beam headlights are on when this
happens, the side lights will be turned on instead
and the message Side Lights will be automatical­
ly switched off in 30 minutes. See owner's man­
ual will appear on the infotainment display. After Driving
approx. 30 minutes, or when you Lock the vehicle,
the side lights will be switched off.
If the start/stop system has not stopped the en­
gine or if you have switched off the start/stop
system manually, the engine will continue run­
ning and the ignition will not be switched off au­
tomatically¢,&..
A WARNING
Never run the engine in confined spaces. The
exhaust gases are toxic -risk of poisoning!
(© Note
If you select D, No r S (on vehicles with auto­
matic gearbox) after selecting reverse gear,
the car must have been moving at over
10 km/h before the system can switch off the
engine again.
Switching the start/stop system off and on
manually
Applies to: vehicles with start/stop system
You can switch the system off manually if you
don't want to use it.

� To switch the start/stop system off or on man­
ually, press the l(A)"'I button. The LED in the but­
ton will light up when the system is switched
off.
@ Note
If you switch off the system during a stop
phase, the engine will start again automati­
cally.

Driver messages in the instrument cluster

Applies to: vehicles with start/stop system
Start/stop system: deactivated. Please
restart engine manually
This message appears if certain conditions have
not been met during the stop phase and the
start/stop system cannot start the engine again
automatically. The !START
ENGINE STOP!
button
must be used to start the engine.
Start/stop system: fault. Function
unavailable. Please contact workshop
There is a malfunction in the start/stop system.
Drive to a workshop soon and have the fault recti­
fied.
Electro-mechanical
parking brake

Your vehicle is equipped with an electro-mechan­
ical parking brake (D ¢ Fig. 78. The parking brake
replaces the conventional handbrake, and is
mainly intended to prevent the vehicle from roll­
ing away accidentally.
Applying/releasing the parking brake
manually
.,. To
apply the parking brake, pull the button C®>.
The LED in the button will light up. In addition,
the warning lamp. will light up in the instru­
ment cluster .
.,. To release the parking brake manually, press
the brake or accelerator pedal with the ignition
switched on and simultaneously press the but-

(®). The LED in the button and the warning
lamp on the display will go out.
Releasing the parking brake automatically
Important: The parking brake must be applied
and the driver's door must be closed.
.,. Accelerate in the usual way to drive off and re-
lease the parking brake automatically.
Further features and safety functions are availa­
ble for driving off, in addition to the automatic
parking brake release function ¢ page 75, Mov­
ing off.
Emergency braking function
You can use the emergency braking function in
emergencies or if the main brake system fails or
the pedal is obstructed.
.,. Pull and hold the button (®).
.,. The brakes will be released immediately if you
release the button (®) or press the accelerator.
If you pull and hold the button C®) while the vehi­
cle is moving, this will initiate an emergency
brake application. The brakes are then applied
hydraulically at all four wheels. The effect is simi­
lar to heavy braking ¢ .&_.
To prevent the emergency braking function from
being used accidentally, a warning buzzer sounds
when the button (®) is operated. The brakes are
released immediately when you release the but­
ton (®) or press the accelerator.
Parking the car
.,. Press the brake pedal to bring the vehicle to a
stop.
.,. To apply the parking brake, pull the button (®).
.,. Automatic gearbox: Move the selector lever to
position P.
.,. Switch off the engine ¢.&_ .
.,. Manual gearbox: Engage first gear .
.,. When parking on a hill or gradient, turn the
steering wheel so that the vehicle would roll in-
to the kerb if it did start to move accidentally. �
