EPC Electronic power control
App lies to vehicles: with gaso line engine
This warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
tronic power control .
The Ga warning/indicator light (Electronic Power
Control) illuminates when you turn on the ign i­
tion as a function check.
@ Tips
If this warning/indicator light illuminates
while you are driving, then there is a malfunc-

tion in the engine electronics . Have the mal­
function corrected as soon as possible by your
authorized Audi dea ler or qualified workshop .
W Glow plug system
Applies to vehicles: with diesel eng ine
The control light illuminates when the glow plug
system is active.
If t he II ind icator light illuminates, the g low
plug system is active . You shou ld start the engine
immediately after the indicator light switches
off. The indicator light on ly illuminates for ap­
prox imately 1 second if the eng ine is warm or if
the outside temperature is above 46

(D Tips
- If the glow plug indicator light illuminates
wh ile driving, there is an engine control
ma lfunction. The engine should be checked
immediately .
-If the ind icator light does not illuminate at
all when switching the ignition on, there
may be a malfunction in the glow plug sys­
tem. The engine shou ld be checked.
;;./G, Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC)
If the Bl indicator light bl inks while driv ing, the
E SC or ASR (Ant i-Slip Regulat ion) is act ively regu­
lating .
If the
Bl ind icator light turns on, the system has
switched the ESC off. In t his case, you can swit ch
the ignit io n off and then on to switch the ESC on
again. The indicator light t urns off when the sys­
tem is functioning fu lly.

If the liJ ind icator light and the ABS indicator
light

turn on and the message appears, the ABS or
electronic d ifferent ial lock is malfu nctioning.
T his also causes the ESC to malfunction . The

brakes still function with their normal power, but
ABS is not active.
Drive to your authorized Audi dealer or qualified
workshop immediately to have the malfunction
corrected.
A WARNING
If the 1111111 (USA models) ;II (Canada mod­
els) brake system indicator light turns on to­
gether with the ABS and ESC indicator lights,
the ABS/ESC regulating function may have
failed . Functions that stabilize the vehicle are
no longer available . This could cause the vehi­
cle to swerve and increase the risk of sliding.
Drive carefully to the nearest authorized Audi
dealer or other qualified workshop and have
the malfunction corrected.

CJ};/ !f Safety systems
The II (USA models) !E,I (Canada models) indi­
cator light monitors the safety systems (e.g . air­
bags, pretensioners) and illuminates for a few
seconds each time you switch the ignition on.
If the II (USA models) !E,I (Canada models) in­
dicator light does not go out, or if it illuminates
while you are driving, or if it starts to blink, then
there is a malfunction somewhere in the system.
If the light does not illuminate when you switch
the ignition on, this also means there is a mal­
function .
A WARNING
If you have a malfunction in the safety sys­
tems, contact your authorized Audi dealer im­
mediately. Otherwise the safety systems may
not work properly in an accident.

ill Tire pressure monitoring system -
telltale indicator lamp
Applies to vehicles: with tire pressure mon itoring system
The warning/indicator light appears in the event
of a significant loss of tire pressure or if there is
a malfunction.
The indicator light RI] illuminates to check the
function when you switch on the ignition.
If the
RI] symbol remains on or blinks after you
switch on the ignition, there is a loss of tire pres­
sure or a system malfunction. If there is a system
malfunction, see your author ized Audi dealer as
soon as possible.

¢¢ Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal .
Whenever you use the left Hor the right B
turn signal, the indicator light blinks. When you
use the emergency flashers, both indicator lights
flash .
If one of the turn signal light bulbs burn out, the
turn signal will blink twice as fast as normal.
This does not apply, however, in towing mode.
The indicator light does not flash if a turn signal
is out on the trailer or the towing vehicle. Addi­

¢1.~ Trailer turn signal assembly
Applies to vehicles: with towing hitch
The indicator light also blinks if the turn signal is
operated when towing a trailer .
The indicator light. blinks when the turn sig ­
nal is used, if a trailer has been properly connect­
ed to the vehicle .
If one of the turn signal bulbs on the trailer is
burned out or defective, the indicator light will
not blink when you use the turn signals.

For vehicles with a factory insta lled towing
hitch o r a tra iler hitch that was installed later
according to factory specifications, the trailer
turn signa l assembly is actuated .

This warning/indicator light reminds you to put
on your safety belt.

o Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Ind icator Lamp (MIL) is part o f
the On -Board Diagnostic (OBD II) system . The
symbo l ¢4 lights up when the ign ition is turned
on an d w ill tur n off aft er the engi ne has st arted
a nd has set tled at a cons tan t idle speed. This in­
d icat es that t he MIL is workin g pro p erl y.
The warning light illuminates when there is a
malfunct io n in the eng ine e lec tron ic system .

An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate (only vehicles
with gasoline engine)

CRUISE/• (-) Cruise control

cr uise contro l is activated.
ABS/{ @) Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
This warning/indicator light monitors the AB S
and the elec troni c differen tial lock ( EDL).

warni ng/indica tor light will come on for a few
se co nd s when t he ig nition i s sw itc hed on. The
lig ht will go o ut a fter an au toma tic check se­
quence is comp lete d.
There is a malfunction in the ABS when:
-The warning/ indica to r li ght does no t illum inate
when y ou switch on the ig nitio n.
- The warn ing/ indica to r li gh t does no t go out af­
t er a few seconds .
- The warning/ indica to r li ght illum ina tes while
driv ing .
The brake system will still respond even w ith ·
out the assistan ce of the ABS system. See your
authorized Audi dealer as soon as possible to re­
store full braking performance .

The ABS warning light and the brake warning
light come on together. The ABS will not work
and you will notice a change in braking re­
sponse and performance.
Malfunction in the brake system

Malfunction in the electronic different ial
lock (EDL )
The EDL works together with the ABS. The ABS
warning light wi ll come on if there is a ma lfunc­
tion in the EDL system

A WARNING
- If the~ (USA models)! IIJ (Canada mod­
els) warn ing light does not go out, o r if it
comes on while d riving, the ABS system is
not working prope rly. The vehicle can then
be stopped only with the st andard brakes
(withou t ABS). You wi ll not have the protec ­
tion ABS p rovides. Contact yo ur authorize d
Audi dealer as soon as possible .
- If the .. (USA

els) brake system indicator light t urns on to­
gether wit h the ABS and ESC indicato r
lights, the ABS/ESC regulating function may

T he warning/indicator light monitors the elec­
trome chanical parking brake.
W ith the parki ng brake applied and the ignition
tur ned on, the. (USA models) /. (Cana-
da mo dels) wa rning/indicator light ill uminates .
Afte r the ign itio n has been turned off, the wa rn ­
i n g/i ndicator light co ntin ues to illum ina te fo r
about 30 seconds . If the parking bra ke is applied
w ith the ignition t urned off, the warning/indica­
tor light illuminates for abo ut 30 seconds.
T he warning/indicator ligh t will go o ut when t he
parking brake is re leased .
-
If t he war ning/ indicato r light flashes cont inuo us­
ly
after applying t h e p arking bra ke, braking force
is not suff icient to p revent the ve hicle from roll­
ing unintentiona lly . Please note the following :

If the slope of the groun d is too steep to park

Caution: Vehicle parked too steep.
- In the event of a pa rking brake malfunction,
the yellow
Iii symbol appears in the instru­
ment cluster display and the driver message
Par king brake malfunction! is d isplayed . Have
the malfunction repa ired as soon as possible by
an authorized A udi dealer or any ot her qualified
workshop.
BRAKE/C(D) Brake system
T he warning/indicator light flashes if brake fluid
level is low, if there is an ABS system malfunc­
tion or a parking brake malfunction .
The .. (USA models)/ . (Canada models)
l ight illum inates when the ignition is t urned on .
It goes out afte r the e ng ine has been started .
This ind icates that the brake wa rni ng light is
funct io ni ng prope rly.
If th e brake warning light doe s not light up
when the engine is cranking, there may be a
malfunction in the electrical syst em. In thi s
case, contact an authorized Audi dealer.
If the brake system warning/ind icator light flash ­
es , there is a brake system ma lfunction . By press­

ing brake is re leased, or lights up while you
are driving, the flu id level in the brake fluid
reservoir is too low. If you believe that it is
safe to do so, proceed immediate ly at low
speed to the nearest authorized Audi dealer
o r qualified repair facility and have the
bra ke system inspected.
- Always keep in mind that after severa l brake
applica tions, you will need greater pressure
on the brake pedal to stop your vehicle. Do
not rely on strained brakes to respond with
maximum stopping power in critical situa­
tions. You must allow for increased braking distances. The extra distance used up by
fading brakes could lead to an acc ident.

- L Engine cooling system malfunction
A malfunction in the engine cooling system must
be repaired as soon as possible.
If the . symbo l flashes in the disp lay, either the
engine coo lant
temperature is too high or the en­
gine coolant
level is too low. A driver message
appears as well to explain the malfunct ion in
more deta il. The driver warn ing goes out after
about 5 seconds, but it can be brought up at any
t ime by pressing the
!SET ! button agai n.

If the engine coo lant level is correct, then the ra­
diato r fan may be the ca use of the malfunct ion.
A WARNING
- I f you r vehicle should break down fo r me-
chan ica l or other reasons, par k at a safe dis ­
tance from moving traffic, tu rn off the en­
g ine and turn on the hazard warning lights
c::> page 54, Emergency flashers.
- Never open the hood if you see or hear
steam or coo lant escaping from the engine
compartment -you risk being scalded. Wait
until you can no longer see or hea r steam or
coo lant escaping.
- The engine compartment of any vehicle is a
dangerous area. Before you perfo rm any
work in the eng ine compartment, turn of
the engine and a llow it to cool. Follow the

.. Remove the cigarette lighter when it pops out.
The c igarette lighter sho uld only be used as a
power so urce for the compressor from the inflat­
ab le spare tire/tire repai r kit* when absolute ly
necessary.
A WARNING
T he ciga rette lighter on ly works when the ig­
nition is sw itched on. Incorrect usage can lead
to ser ious injuries or burns. For this reason,
children shou ld never be left unattended i n
the vehicle beca use this increases the risk of
injury.
12 -volt sockets
Electrical accessories can be connected to every
12-volt socket.

The 12-volt sockets can be used for electrical ac­
cessories. The power input must not exceed 120
watts .
Seats and storag e
There is an add itio na l 1 2-volt socket in the center
console.

A WARNING
The power outlets and therefore the electrical
accessories connected to them operate only
with the ign ition on. Improper use of the out­
l ets or of electrical accessor ies can lead to se­
rio us inj uries or cause a fire. Fo r th is reason,
ch ildren should never be left unattended in
the veh icle -they could be injured!
