perature, time, selector lever position, tripod­
ometer and odometer.
For some vehicle functions, you can access the
trip information from the temporary memory
¢ page 25 in the line (D ¢ fig. 5.
_& WARNING
--Never rely exclusively on the outside tem­
perature display to determine if a road sur­
face is icy or not. Keep in mind that road
surfaces, especially bridges and overpasses,
could be ice covered and slippery even at an
outside temperat ure above 41 °F (+S °C).
- Always reduce your speed and dr ive with
special care in cold weather conditions when
the chance of encountering icy road surfaces increases .
(D Tips
-You can select the units used for tempera­
ture, speed and other measurements in the
MMI.
- If the vehicle is stationary, or if you are driv­
ing at a very low speed, the temperature
shown in the display might be slightly high­
er than the actual outside temperature . This
is caused by the heat being radiated from
the engine .

Displ ay content
In the MMI, yo u can specify which informat ion
should be d isplayed such as navigat ion info rma­
tion* or Night vision assistant*.
The speed display and some of the red indicator
lights cannot be hidden in the MMI.
D is pl ay bri ghtness
You can adjust the disp lay brightness in the MMI.
The display brightness decreases automatically
as the amount of light decreases. The bas ic level
of br igh tness is adjusted w ith the inst rument
il ­
lum ina tion ¢ page 51.
(D Note
To prevent scratches on the g lass cove ring the
Head-up D isplay, do not place any objects in
the projection opening.
(j) Tips
- Sunglasses w ith polar izat ion fi lters and un­
favorab le lighting conditions can affect the
display.
- An optimum display depends on the seat
position and the height of the Head- up D is­
play .
- A specia l windshield is needed for the Head­
up Disp lay fu nction .

On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL )
The Ma lfunction I ndi cator Lamp (M IU ¢.ij in the
i nstrument cluster is part of the On-Board Diag­
nostic (OBD II) system .
The wa rni ng/indicator light ill uminates when the
i gnition is sw itched on and goes out after the en ­
gine starts a nd the idle has stab ilized . This indi­
cates that the M IL is working proper ly .
If th e light do es not go out after the eng ine is
started, or illum inates while you are driving, a
malfunct ion may ex ist in the engine system. If
the light illuminates, the catalytic converte r
could b e damag ed .

If the l igh t illum inates, the electronic speed lim­

You can centrally lock and unlock your vehicle
and start the engine w ith the master key with re­
mote control. A mechanical key is integrated in
the remote control key¢
page 31.
@ Emergency key
The emergency key is not intended for constant
use. It shou ld only be used in an emergency.
Keep it in a safe place and do not carry it on your
key ring.
Key replacement
If you lose a key , contact your authorized Audi
dealer immediately to have the
lost key disab led .
Be sure to bring all your keys with you.
Personal comfort settings
If two people use one vehicle, it is recommended
that each person always uses "their own" master
key. When the ignition is switched off or when
the vehicle is locked , personal convenience set­
tings for the following systems are stored and as­
signed to the remote master key .
- Automatic climate contro l
- Central locking system
- Rear w indow sun blind
- Amb ient lighting
- Seat memory
- Parking system*
-Adaptive cruise contro l*

The stored settings are automatica lly recalled
when you unlock the vehicle, when you open the
doors or when you switch the ignition on.
A WARNING
-
- Do not leave your vehicle unattended . Al­
ways take your ignition key with you and
lock your vehicle. Entry by unauthorized per­
sons could endanger you or result in theft or
damage the vehicle.
- Do not leave children unattended in the ve­
hicle, especially with access to vehicle keys.
Ungua rded access to the keys provides chil ­
dren the opportunity to start the engine
and/or activate vehicle systems s uch as the
power windows, etc . Unsupervised opera­
tion of any veh icle system by ch ildren can
result in serious injury.
(D Tips
- The operation of the remote control key can
be temporarily disrupted by interference
from transmitters in the v icinity of the vehi­
cle working in the same frequency range
(e.g . a cell phone, radio equipment).
- For security reasons, replacement keys are
only available from Audi dealers.
- For Declaration of Compliance to United
States FCC and Industry Canada regulat ions

Lights and Vision
_&. WARNING
When lowering or raising the sunshade, make
sure there is nothing in its way and that it has
a free path to travel. This could cause person­
al injury .
{!) Tips
-Pressing the button Ii.!.) several times con­
secutively can trigger the overload protec ­
tion . The sun shade can only be extended/
retracted again after a brief wa iting period .
- The rear window sun shade only functions
when the vehicle interior is warmer than
14°F (-10°C).

Move the windshield wiper lever to the corre­
sponding position:
@ -Windshield wipers off
(D -Rain sensor mode . The windshield w ipers
switch on once the vehicle speed exceeds approx­
i mately 2 mph (4 km/h) and it is raining. The
higher the rain sensor sensit iv ity is set (switch @
to the right) , the earlier the windshield wipers re­
act to moisture on the windshield . You can deac­
t ivate rain sensor mode in the MMI, which will
then activate intermittent mode . Select:

function button > Car systems control button >
Driver assist> Rain sensor> Off. In intermitten t
mode, you can adjust the interval time using the
switch @.
@ -Slow wiping
@-Fast wiping
@-Single wipe. If you hold the lever in this posi­
tion longer, the wipers switch from slow wiping
to fast wiping.
® -C lean the windshield . The wipers wipe one
time after several seconds of driving to remove
water droplets . Yo u can sw itch this function off
by moving the lever to position ® within 10 sec­
onds after the afterwipe . The afterwipe function
is r eactivated the next time you switch the igni­
tion on .
Cleaning the headlights. The headlight washer
system* only functions when the headlights are
on . If you move the lev er to position ®, the
headlights and the night v ision system camera*
are washed in intervals.
_&. WARNING
-The rain sensor is on ly designed to assist
and support the dr iver . It remains entirely
the driver's responsibility to monitor out­
side weather conditions and to manually ac­
tivate the wipers as soon as rain or drizzle
reduces vis ibility through the windshield.
- The windsh ield must not be treated with
water-repellent materials. They can increase
glare under poor visibility cond itions such as
wetness, darkness, or when the sun is low

Description
Applies to: vehicles with night visio n ass istant
Night vision assistant with pedestrian and wild
animal detection assists you in darkness by using
an infrared camera to monitor the area in front of
your veh icle , w ith in the limits of the system .
It
can display objects up to app roximately
1000 feet (300 meters) away. The hea t image
detected by the camera is shown in the instr u­
ment cluster display. Warm areas appea r lighter
and cold areas appear darker.

sistant can detect pedestrians and wild animals
that are w ithin the detection range between ap­
proximate ly 32 feet (10 meters) and 295 feet
(90 meters) in front of the vehicle. When it is

cle speed and steering angle. Pedest rian and wi ld

on when there is a pedestrian or wild animal

I f the Head-up Display* is swi tched on a nd the
n ight vision assistant disp lay content is activat­
ed, the display . or. appears in the Head -up

Marker light *
To draw the drive r's a ttent ion to the pedestrian,
the head lights can flash brief ly on t he pedest rian
three times when there is a pedes trian warn ing .
This happens at speeds above approx imately
35 mph (60 km/h) when you a re t raveling out­
side of we ll-lit areas and when flashing the head­
lights will not create glare for a vehicle detected
in the oncoming lane . The mark er light* is con­
trolled by the h igh beam assist*

Pedestria n and wild anima l detect io n depends on
the d ifference in temper ature between the per­
son/w ild an imal and the backg round area . Pedes ­
trians/wild animals may not be detected if the
difference is too smal l. Pedestr ian and wild ani­
mal mark ing and the marker light* are deactivat ­
ed at temperatures above approximate ly 77 °F

night v is io n assistant image is selected in the in ­
strument cluster d isplay, the

A WARNING
Nig ht vision ass istant has limits and can not
al ways detect pedestr ian s. A lways pay close
attention to t raff ic and the area around your
vehicle eve n when night vision assistant is
switched on .
- Night vision assistant can only warn about
peop le and wild a nimals located within the
visual range of the infrared camera. The vis ­
ual range corresponds to the image in the
instrument cluster disp lay.
- Night vision assistant may not detect people
or w ild an imals and mark them if
- th ey are not in an upright position, fo r ex ­
amp le if they a re sitting or lying down
and/or
- the silhouette i n the display is incomple te
or inte rrupted, for exam ple bec ause a per­
so n is partially cove red by a parked vehicle
or a wild animal is pa rtially covered by tall
grass. This increases the risk of a co llision.
- Never try to swerve to avoid animals if this
w ill put you or other drivers at r isk. This
could inc rease the risk of a collision.
