§0 Adaptive Light
Applies to: vehicles with Adaptive Light
m;J Audi adaptive light : system fault
If the indicator light turns on and th is message
appears, there is a malfunction in the adaptive
light system . The head lights st ill function .
Go to an authorized dea lership to have the head­
lights or the control unit for the Adaptive Light
repaired .
~D Light /rain sensor
!;I Automatic headlights /automatic wipers:
s y stem fault
If the ind icator lig ht t urns on and th is message
appears, the light/ra in sensor is no t funct ioning
correct ly.
For safety reasons the low beams are turned on
permanently with the switch in
AUTO . However,
you can continue to turn the lights on and off us­
i n g the light swi tch. You can still con trol a ll func­
tions th at are in dependen t of t he rain senso r
through t he w indshie ld w iper lever.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soo n as
possible to have the prob le m corrected.
I-: Sport differential
1,11 Sport differential : sy stem fault
There is a malfunc tion wi th t he sport differential.
Drive to yo ur authori zed Aud i dea le r i mmediately
to have the malfunct ion corrected.
1,11 Sport differential: overheating
T he t ransm iss ion tempe rature h as increased s ig­
n ificant ly due to the spor ty driv in g manne r. Dr ive
in a less sporty ma nner un til the tem perature re ­
turns to the normal range and the indicator light
sw itches o f.
A WARNING
Contact your authorized Audi dealer or a
qualified workshop if the sport differentia l is
faulty or malfunctioning . The repair m ust be

performed by t rained personnel using the cor­
rect oil in order to ensure safety .
¢ Q Turn signals
The indicator light blinks when you use either
turn signal.
Wheneve r yo u use the left II or the r ight B
turn s ignal, the indicator light blinks . When you
u se the emergency flashers, both indicator lights
flash.
I f one of the turn sign al light bulb s bu rn o ut, the
turn s ignal will b link twice as fast as no rma l.
Caref ully drive to yo ur authorized Aud i dea le r im ­
med iate ly to have the malfunction corrected. The
i ndicato r light does not indicate a ma lfunction if
a turn signal on the trailer or on the vehicle fails i n trailer towing mode.

Opening and closin g
- You press/release the~ button on the remote
contro l key (vehicles with convenience key*), or
- You press the~ or
CD (vehicles with conven­
ience key*) button in the luggage compartment
lid , or
- You push the hand le in the luggage compart ­
ment lid, or
- You push on the luggage compartment lid with
your hand opposite the direction it is moving,
or
- When something b locks the luggage compart­
ment lid or makes it difficu lt for the lid to
move .
I f you press the hand le or one of the~ or
CD
(vehicles with convenience key*) buttons then,
the luggage compartment lid will either open or
close, depending on how far it was open.
A WARNING
- Read and follow all WARNINGS c> A in Gen­
eral description on page 32.
- After closing the luggage compartment lid,
always pull up on it to make sure that it is
properly closed . Otherwise
it cou ld open
suddenly when the veh icle is moving .
- To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the veh icle, always keep
the luggage compartment lid closed while dr iv ing . Neve r transport objects larger than
those which fit completely into the luggage
area, because then the luggage compart­
ment lid c annot be fully closed .
- Never leave yo ur vehicle unattended espe­
c ially w ith the l uggage comp artment l id left
open. A child co ul d crawl into the ca r
through the luggage compartment and pull
the lid shut, becoming trapped and unable
to get out. To reduce the risk of personal in­
jury, never let children p lay in or around
you r vehicle. A lways keep the luggage com­
partment lid as well as the vehicle doors
closed when not in use .
- Never close the luggage compartment lid
inatten tively or without check ing first . Al­
though the clos ing fo rce of the l uggage
c ompartment lid is limited, yo u can st ill se­
riously injure yourse lf or others.

- Always ensure that no one is within range of
the luggage compartment lid when it is
mov ing, in particular close to the hinges and
the upper and lower edges - fingers or
hands can be pinched.
- Never try to interfere with the luggage com­
partment lid or help it when it is be ing
opened or closed a utomat ically.

- The settings in the MMI determine if the
luggage compartment lid can be opened us­
ing the handle

- If there is a mechanical problem with auto­
matic closing for the l uggage compartment
lid or the re is an obs truction, it opens again
immediately . Check to see why the luggage
compartment lid could not be closed before
a ttempting to close it again.
- The following applies to vehicles equ ipped
with the Convenience key* feature: if the re­
mote contro l key is left in the lugg age com­
partment, luggage compartmen t will auto­
matically unlock itself after you lock the ve­
hicle. This prevents you from unintentiona l­
ly lock ing you r key in the l uggage compart­
ment.
- When the vehicle is locked, the luggage
compartment lid can be unlocked separately
by pressing the button~ on the master
key. When t he luggage compartment lid is
closed aga in, it locks automat ica lly .
- If the vehicle battery charge drops below a
certain level, you can still open or close the
luggage compa rtment lid manually, howev­
er, you will need to apply mo re force to
close i t.

Driving settings
Introduction
Aud i drive select makes it possib le to experience
d ifferent types of veh icle sett ings in one veh icle.
The driver ca n select three
Comf ort, Aut o and
Dyn am ic modes in the MMI to switch between a
sporty and a comfortable driving mode.
You can a lso adjust the setting accord ing to your
p references in the
indi vidual mode. For example,
you can combine settings such as a sporty engine tuning with comfortable steering.
A WARNING
Improper use of the Audi drive select can
cause collisions, other accidents and serious
personal injury.
Description
-
The follow ing systems are affected by drive se­
lect:
Engine and t ransm is sion
Depending on the mode, the engine and the
transmission respond quicker or in a more ba l­
anced manner to accelerator pedal movements.
In the sporty dynamic mode, the transmission
shifts at h igher RPMs.
Air suspe nsion
The adaptive air suspension/adaptive air suspen­
sion sport*
(Air suspension in the MMI) is an
electronically controlled air suspens ion and
damping system . They are adjusted depending
on the se lected dr iving mode, the driver's steer­
ing, b raking and acceleration input and the road
surface, vehicle speed and load. A spo rty setting
is gene rally used in veh icles with adaptive air sus­
pens ion sport*.
The vehicle clearance va ries depending on these­
lected mode and the speed .
The highway setting is activated automatically
when yo u drive above 75 mph (120 km/h) for
mo re than 30 seconds in the
au to or dynamic

mode. The ground clea rance is increased auto ­
matically if the speed drops below 44 mph (70
km/h) for more than 120 seconds.
Steering
The steering adapts in terms of steering effort
and steering rat ios. Indirect stee ring that moves
easily, like the steering in com fort mode, is best
suited to long drives on a highway. In contrast,
dynamic mode provides sporty, direct steering .
The following app lies to veh icles with dynamic
steering*: the steering ratio changes based on
vehicle speed in order to maintain optimum
steering effort for the dr iver at a ll times . This
sets the steering to be less sensitive at higher
speeds in order to provide improved vehicle con­
trol. At reduced speeds, however, steering is more d irect in order to keep t he steering effort as
min imal as possible whe n the dr iver is maneuve r­
i ng the vehicle. A t low and ave rage speeds, dy­
namic steeri ng addit ionally prov ides more re ­
spons ive steering performance.
Sport differential*
As a component of the all whee l dr ive sys tem
(quattro)
~ page 195, the Sport differe ntia l*
dist ributes t he d riving powe r to the rear axle de ­
pend ing on the s ituation. The distr ib ution of
power va ries depending on the selected mode,
from ba lanced (comfort) to agile (dynamic). The
goal is a high level of agility and ability to accel­
erate on curves. The vehicle is very responsive to
steering.
Cur ve light *
The curve light adapts to driving on curves . The
pivoting action and the lighting are also adapted
to the mode.
Adapt ive cruise control*
The behavio r whe n accelerating ca n be adjusted
from comfortable to sporty, depending on the
drive select mode. Adaptive cruise contro l also
responds to the driving behavior of the vehicle
ahead in a more conservative or sporty manner . ..,_

Engine sound *
The sou nd of the engine is adapted to the select­
ed mode and ranges from subt le to sporty.
(D Note
- Make sure there is enough cle arance above
and below t he vehicle when parking. The
height of the vehicle can change once it is
parked due to temperature f luctuations,
changes to the load conditions and changes
to the driving modes, which can affect clear­
ance.
- When transporting the vehicle on a car car­
rier, tra in, ship or by other means, only t ie
the vehicle down at the running surface of
the tires, which is the outer circumference.
Securing the vehicle at the axle compo­
nents, suspe ns ion struts or towing eyes is
not permitted be cause the press ure in the
air suspension struts can change dur ing
transport . The vehicle may not be secured
sufficiently if this happens .

- In some models, the maximum vehicle
speed can only be reached in the
auto and
dynamic modes.
- Se lecting the
d ynami c mode resu lts i n spor­
ty shifting characteristics. The S gear posi­
tion engages a utomatically.
- In vehicles that have dynamic steering*, op ­
erating noise is heard when starting or stop­ ping the engine. This does not indicate a
problem.
Audi driv e se lect
- In vehicles w ith sport differential*, the dy­
namic mode is deactivated when towing a
trailer .
Selecting the driving mode
You con choose between Comfort, Auto , Dynamic
and Individual .

You can change the driv ing mode when the vehi­
cle is stationary or while driving . If traff ic per­
mits, afte r changing modes, briefly take your
foot off the accelerator pedal so that the recently
selected mode is also activated for the engine.
comfort -provides a comfort-oriented vehicle
setup and is suited for long drives on h ighways.
auto -provides an overall comfortable yet dy­
nam ic dr iving feel and is suited for every day use.
dynamic -gives the driver a sporty driving fee l
and is suited to a sporty driving style.

You can adjust the vehicle settings to your personal preferences.
"'Se lect : I CAR I function button > Set individual
cont rol button. You can now adjust the individ­
ual systems.

You can raise your vehicle temporarily, for exam­
p le to drive over a tall curb .
"' Se lect the following in the MMI :

Raise control button.
"'Wa it for the arrows in the display to stop blink­
ing and the vehicle to reach its fina l position.
Lowering the vehicle
"'T o lower the vehicle, select the following in the
MM I:
ICARI function button > Lower control
button.
"' Wait for the arrows in the display to stop blink­
ing and the vehicle to lower completely.

- Remember that your vehicle is not suitable
for driving offroad even when it is ra ised .
There is not enough ground clearance.
- If the vehicle is raised, it will lower auto­
matically when driving 62 mph (100 km/h)
or faster.
Driver messages
Air suspension: vehicle currently too low. Level
control running
Air suspension: vehicle currently too high. Level
control running
The driver message switches off when the level
control process is complete.

-Never place or install floor mats or other
floor coverings on top of already installed
floor mats. Additional floor mats and other
coverings will reduce the size of the pedal
area and interfere with the pedals .
- Always properly reinstall and secure floor
mats that have been taken out for cleaning.
- Always make sure that objects cannot fall
into the driver footwell while the vehicle is
moving . Objects can become trapped under
the brake pedal and accelerator pedal caus­ ing a loss of veh icle control.
Storing cargo correctly
Loading the luggage compartment
All luggage and other objects must be properly
stowed and secured in the luggage compart­
ment.
L oose items in the luggage compartment can
shift suddenly, changing vehicle handling charac­
teristics. Loose items can also increase the risk of
serious personal injury in a sudden vehicle ma­
neuver or in a collision.
.. Distribute the load evenly in the luggage com­
partment.
.. Always place and properly secure heavy items in
the luggage compartment as far forward as
possible.

A WARNING
Improperly stored luggage or other items can
fly through the vehicle causing serious per­
sonal injury in the event of hard braking or an
accident. To help reduce the risk of serious
personal injury:
- Always put objects, for example, luggage or
other heavy items in the luggage compart­
ment.
- Always secure objects in the luggage com­
partment using the tie-down hooks and
suitable straps .
Driving safety
A WARNING
Heavy loads will influence the way your vehi­
cle handles. To help reduce the risk of a loss
of control lead ing to serious personal injury:
- Always keep in m ind when transporting
heavy objects, that a change in the center of
gravity can also cause changes in vehicle handling:
- Always distribute the load as evenly as
possible .
- Place heavy objects as far forward in the
luggage compartment as possible.
- Never exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating
or the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating specified
on the safety compliance sticker on the left
door jamb. Exceeding permissible weight
standards can cause the vehicle to slide and handle differently.
- Please observe information on safe driving
¢page 129.
A WARNING
To help prevent poisonous exhaust gas from
being drawn into the vehicle, always keep the
rear lid closed while driving .
- Never transport objects larger than those
f itting completely into the luggage area be­
cause the rear lid cannot be fully closed.
- If you absolutely must drive with the rear lid open, observe the following notes to reduce
the risk of poisoning:
- Close all windows,
- Close the power roof,
- Open all air outlets in the instrument pan-
el,
- Switch off the air recirculation
,
- Set the fresh air fan to the highest speed .
A WARNING
Always make sure that the doors, all win­
dows, the power roof and the rear lid are se­
curely closed and locked to reduce the r isk of
in jury when the vehicle is not being used.
- After closing the rear lid, always make sure
that it is properly closed and locked.
