ing the light switch . You can still control a ll func­
tions that are independent of the rain sensor
through the w indshield wiper lever.
Contact your author ized Audi dealer as soon as
possible to have the problem corrected.
; Adaptive dampers
Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select and adaptive damp­
ers

If the B symbol in the display comes on, there is
a ma lf u nction in the adaptive dampers . P lease go
to an author ized Audi de aler or qu alified work­
shop to have the ma lfunction repaired .

Applies to vehicles: with Audi drive select and sport differen ­
tial
Sport differ ential: Syst em fault!
There is a malfunction with the sport differential.
Drive to your authorized Aud i dea ler immediately
to have the malfunct ion corrected.
Sport differential: Overhe ating
The transmission tempe rature has increased s ig­
n ificant ly due to the sporty driv ing manne r. D rive
i n a less sporty manner until the temperature re­
turns to the normal range and the indicator light
switches of.
A WARNING
Contact your authorized A udi dealer or quali­
fied workshop if the sport differential is faulty
or ma lfunctioning. The repa ir must be per­
formed by trained personnel us ing the correct
oil in order to ensure safety .

II Ignition lock defective
There is a malfunction in the electronic ignition
lock . Please go to an authorized Audi dea ler or
other qualified workshop to have the malfu nction
repaired .

signals
Wheneve r yo u use the left B or the right Ill
turn s ignal , the ind ic a tor light blinks. When you
u se the emergency flashe rs, both indicator ligh ts
f lash.
If one of the tu rn signa l ligh t bulbs bu rn out, the
turn s ignal will b link t wice as fast as no rmal.

Central locking
General description
The power locking system locks or unlocks all
doors and the rear lid simultaneously.
You can lock and unlock the vehicle centrally. You have the following choices:
- Remote master key ¢

Automatic lo cking
The automat ic locking feature locks all the vehi­
cle doors and the rear lid when you drive faster
than 9 mph ( 15 km/h) .
The car is unlocked again once the ignition key is
removed . In addition, the vehicle can be unlocked
if the opening function in the power locki ng sys ­
tem sw itch or at one of the door levers is actuat­
ed. The A uto Lock funct io n can be tu rned on and
off in the rad io or MM I* ¢
page 36.
Addit ionally, in the event of a crash with airbag
deployment the doors are automatically un­
l ocked to allow access to the veh icle.
Selective unlocking
When you lock the vehicle, the power locking sys­
tem will lock the doors and the rear lid . When
unlocking, yo u can set in the rad io or MMI*
whether
only the d river 's doo r o r the entire vehi­
cle shou ld be un loc ked
¢ page 36.
Anti-theft alarm w arning system
If the anti-theft alarm warning system detects a
break-in into the vehicle, acoust ic and visual
warn ing s ignals a re triggered.
The anti-theft warning system is activated auto­
mat ically when you lock the vehicle. It is deact i­
vated when unlocking using the remote key, with the mechanical key, and w hen you switch o n the
i gnit ion .
Op ening and cl osing
The alarm also t urns off when the alarm cycle has
expi red.
Turn signals
When you unlock the veh icle, the turn s ignals
flash twice, when yo u lock it once. If they do not
flash, one of the doors, the l uggage compa rt­
ment lid or the hood is not locked or the ignition
is still switched on.
Unintentionally locking yourself out
In the following cases there safeguards to p re­
ven t you locking your remo te mas te r key in the
vehicle:
- The vehicle does not loc k w ith the power lock­
ing sw itch ¢
page 35 if the d river 's doo r is
open.
- On veh icles with co nvenience key*, if the most
re cent ly used master key is in the l uggage com­
pa rtment, the rear lid is a utomatically unlocked
aga in after it is closed.
Do not lock your veh icle w ith the remote master
key or conven ience key* until all doors and the
rea r lid are closed . In this way yo u avoid loc king
yoursel f out acc identally .
A WARNING
=
-When you leave the vehicle, always remove
the ignition key and take it with you. This
will prevent passengers (children, fo r exam­
ple) from accidentally being locked in the
veh icle should they accidentally press the
power locking sw itch in the front doors.
- Do not leave children ins ide the veh icle un­
supervised . In an emergency it would be im­
possible to open the doors from the outside
without the key.
(D Tips
- In the event of a crash wit h airbag dep loy­
ment all locked doors will be automatically
unlocked to give access to the vehicle occ u­
pants from the o utside.
- If the power locking system sho uld mal­
function, you can lock the driver's door us­ ing the mechan ica l key ¢

1. Switch the ignition on.
2. Press and ho ld both outer b uttons in the roof
headliner ~

turns off completely (after about 20 sec­
onds). This procedure clears the s tandard co­
des that were set at the factory and does
not
need to be repeated again to program the
other buttons .
3. Br iefly p ress the b utton o n the roof headliner
that you wou ld like to program .
4. Wa it until the LED @ begins to blink quickly .
Programming mode is active for 5 minutes .
5. Move in front of yo ur vehicle while holding
the original remote control for the system
t hat would like to program to a button in the
roof headliner.

7. Press and hold the remote control until the
turn signals on your vehicle blink . This may
take up to 30 seconds.

If the emergency flashers blink th ree t imes,
the programming was suc cessful.
If th e
emergency flashers only b lin k one t ime , the
5 minute time limit for t he p rogramming has
ended or the programm ing was not success­
fu l. Repeat the programming from the third
step, or try changing the distance to the radi­
ator grille.

9 . If the garage door or other system does not
op en using the buttons in the roof headliner
even though the programming was success­
ful , the system may use a ro lling code in­
s tead of a fixed code .

be programmed according to the instruct ions
above . Begin with the third s tep .
Era sing button prog ramm ing
The prog rammed buttons cannot be erased indi­
vidually . They must a ll be erased tog ether . Re­
program the buttons if necessary .
.. Switch the ignit io n on.
.. Press and hold both outer bu ttons in the roof
headliner until the LED @turns off comp lete ly
( after about 20 seconds).
Reprogramm ing the buttons
.. Switch the ignit io n on .
.. To reprogram an individual button, press and
hold the button unti l the LED @starts to flash
quickly (after about 10 seconds) . Release the
button immed iately. Programming mode is ac­
tive for 5 m inu tes.
.. Continue with the fifth step.
@ Tips
- Programming using the buttons in the roof
headliner is not possible with all Infotain­
ment systems . If this is the case, program
the buttons as descr ibed in version A
¢ page 45 .
- The required distance between the hand
transm itte r and the Homelink module in
the radiator grille~
fig. 41 depends o n the
system that you are prog ramming.
- Depending on the mode l of the system, you
may need to release the b utton o n the re­
mote contro l dur ing programm ing and
press it again. Hold each position yo u try for
a t least 15 seconds before trying another
posit ion . Keep the turn s ignals on your vehi­
cle in view when doing this .

When switched on
, adap tive ligh t ad ap ts to
curves in the roa d depending on the vehicle
speed and the steering ang le. Th is prov ides bet­
ter light ing th rough the curve. The system oper­
ates at speeds between approximately 6 mph (10 km/h) and 68 mph (110 km/h).
Static cornering light* (veh icles with adaptive
li ght) -the corne ring light switches on at speeds
up to approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) when a
ce rtain steering wheel angle is reached or when a
turn signal is act ivated . The area to the side of
the veh icle is illuminated better when turning .
T he adaptive light and the cornering light only
funct ion when the switc h is in the AUTO position
(automat ic head lights*) .
A WARNING
- Daytime r unning lights and au tomatic head­
lights* are o nly intended to ass ist the d river .
They do not relieve the d rive r of his res pon­
sibility to check t he headlights and to tur n
t hem on m anually accordi ng to the curren t
light and visibili ty cond itions. For example,
fog cannot be detected by the light sen­
sors*. So a lways switch on the headlights
io
unde r these weather conditions and when
driving in the dark .
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by ot her motorists. Always tur n on the
headlights so that yo u can see ahead a nd so
that others can s ee yo ur ca r from the back .
- Please obey all laws w hen us ing the lighting
sys tems described here.
(D Note
The rear fog lights* shou ld only be turned on
i n accordance with traffic regu lation, as the
lights are bright for following traff ic.

the windshield in this area in order to
prevent malfunctions or failures.
- Some exterior lighting functions can be ad­
justed

- When you remove your key from the igni­
tion while the vehicle's lights are turned on,
a buzzer sounds as long as the driver's door
is open.
- In cool or damp weather, the inside of the
headlights, turn signals and tail lights can
fog over due to the temperature difference
between the inside and outside. They will
clear shortly after switching them on. This does not affect the service life of the light­
ing .
- In the event of a light sensor malfunction,
the driver is notified in the instrument clus­
ter display

Turn signals and high beam lever
The lever operates the turn signals, the high
beams and the headlight flasher.

WARNING

Adjusting exterior lighting
The functions are selected in the radio or MMI* .

vehicle equipment, the function can be switched on and off or the length of time the lights remain

W hen the light swi tch is in the A UTO ~ page 48
position, the sw itch-on po int of the lights can be
cha nged in the automatic driving light function.
Daytime running lights
USA models :
You can switch the daytime r unning
lights
on and off .
Canada models: The funct ion cannot be tu rned
off .
It is activated automatically each t ime the ig­
n ition is switched on.
Tra vel mode*
The headlight beam is asymmetrical. This pro­
vides stronger illumination on the side of the
road on which you are driving.
If you are driving
in a cou ntry that dr ives on the opposite side of
the road from you r own country, this will cause
g lar e fo r oncom ing dr ive rs . To p revent glare:
- Travel mode must be selected in veh icles w ith
Xenon headlights* .
- In vehicles with halogen headlights, certain
areas of the headlight lenses must be cove red
with waterproof adhesive covers that prev ent
l ight from passing through. For more informa­
tion, ple ase see you r auth orized Audi dea le r or
a uthorized repair fa ci lity .
When travel mode is ac tiva ted, a disp lay in

l y if you a re in an accident where the airbag has
deployed .
@ Tips
You should turn on the emergency flashers
when:
-you are the last vehicle standi ng in a traffic
jam so that any other vehicles com ing can
see yo u, or when
- yo ur ve hicle has broken down or yo u are in
an eme rge ncy sit uat ion, or w hen
-your vehicle is be ing towed by a tow tru ck or
if yo u are towing another vehicle behin d
you.

Driving
oil pressure must first build up in the hy­
draulic valve adjusters. This is normal and not a cause for concern.
- If you leave the vehicle with the ignition
switched on, the ignition will switch off af­
ter a certain period of time. Please note that
electrical equipment such as exterior lights
will switch off as well when that happens .
Switching engine off
Applies to veh icles: w ith conven ience key

er to the P or N position.

Steering lock
The steering locks when you turn the engine off
using the
I START E NGINE STOP ! button and
open the driver's door. The locked steering helps
prevent vehicle theft.
Emergency off
If necessary, the engine can be switched off with
the selector lever in the R or D/S positions . The
engine stops if you press and hold the
I STAR T ENGIN E STOPI button at speeds below
6 mph (10 km/h) and press the brake pedal.
A WARNING
-Never turn off the engine before the vehicle
has come to a complete stop. The full func­
tion of the brake booster and the power
steering is not guaranteed. You must use
more force to turn or brake if necessary. Be­
cause you cannot steer and brake as you
usually would, this could lead to crashes
and serious injuries.
- For safety reasons, you should always park
your vehicle with the selector lever in P.
Otherwise, the vehicle could inadvertently
roll away .
- The radiator fan can continue to run for up
to 10 minutes even after you have turned
off the engine and removed the ignition key.
The radiator fan can also turn on again if the

engine coolant heats up because of intense
sunlight or heat build-up in the engine com­
partment.
- Always take the key with you whenever you
leave your vehicle . Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat ­
ed. This can lead to serious injury.
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period, heat builds up in the en­
gine compartment after the engine is switch ­
ed off - there is a risk of damaging the engine .
Allow the engine to run at idle for about two
minutes before switching it off.
Driver messages
Ignition is on
This message appears and a warning tone sounds
if you open the driver's door when the ignition is
switched on .
No key identified
This message appears when the
I STAR T ENGINE ST OP ! button is pressed if there
is no master key inside the vehicle or if the sys­
tem does not recogni ze it. For example, the mas­
ter key cannot be recognized if it is covered by an
object (e .g . aluminum brief case) which
screens
the radio signal. Electronic devices such as cell
phones can also interfere with the radio signal.
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal to start the engine in a vehicle with
an automatic transmission.
Press clutch pedal to start engine
This message appears if you do not press the
clutch pedal to start the engine in a vehicle with
a manual transmission.
Shift to N or P to start engine
This message appears when attempting to start
the engine if the selector lever for the automatic
transmission is not in the P or N position . The .,_
