T o change gears,orwhen upshifting ordown-

T o ensure smooth gearchanges, besure tofully

shift lever. Ifthe clutch pedalisnot fully

cruise control system, perform thefollowing
procedures.

The cruise control allowsdriving ataspeed
between 25to89 MPH (40to144 km/h)
without keeping yourfootonthe accelerator
pedal.
T o turn onthe cruise control, pushtheMAIN
switch on.The CRUISE indicator lightwill
illuminate.
T o set cruising speed,accelerate thevehicle
to the desired speed,pushtheCOAST/SET
switch andrelease it.Take your footoffthe

accelerator pedal.Your vehicle willmaintain the
set speed.
. To pass another vehicle,depressthe
accelerator pedal.Whenyourelease the

on winding orhilly roads. Ifthis happens,
drive without thecruise control.
T o cancel thepreset speed, useone ofthe
following methods:
a) PushtheCANCEL switch.
b) Tap the brake pedal.
c) Turn theMAIN switch off.The CRUISE indicator
light willturn off.
. Ifyou depress thebrake pedalwhilepushing
the ACCEL/RES orCOAST/SET switchand
reset atthe cruising speed,thecruise
control willdisengage. Turn theMAIN switch
off once andthen turniton again.
. The cruise control willautomatically cancelif
the vehicle slowsmorethan8MPH (13
km/h) below thesetspeed.
. Ifyou move theshift lever tothe N(Neutral)
position (Continuously Variable Transmis-
sion models) ordepressing theclutch pedal
(Manual Transmission models),the cruise
control willbecanceled. T
o reset atafaster cruising speed,useone
of the following methods:
. Depress theaccelerator pedal.Whenthe
vehicle attainsthedesired speed,pushand
release theCOAST/SET switch.
. Push andhold theACCEL/RES switch.
When thevehicle attainsthedesired speed,
release theswitch.
. Push, thenquickly release theACCEL/RES
switch. Eachtimeyoudothis, thesetspeed
will increase byabout 1MPH (1.6km/h) .
T o reset ataslower cruising speed,useone
of the following methods:
. Lightly tapthebrake pedal. Whenthe
vehicle attainsthedesired speed,pushthe
COAST/SET switchandrelease it.
. Push andhold theCOAST/SET switch.
Release theswitch whenthevehicle slows
down tothe desired speed.
. Push, thenquickly release theCOAST/SET
switch. Eachtimeyoudothis, thesetspeed
will decrease byabout 1MPH (1.6km/h) .
T o resume thepreset speed, pushand
release theACCEL/RES switch.Thevehicle
will resume thelast setcruising speedwhenthe
vehicle speedisover 25MPH (40km/h) .

. Ifthe AWD mode switch isoperated while
making aturn, accelerating ordecelerating,
or ifthe ignition switchisturned offwhile in
the AWD-V orAWD mode, youmay feela
jolt. This isnormal.
. The oiltemperature ofpower trainparts will
increase ifthe vehicle iscontinuously
operated underconditions wherethediffer-
ence inrotation between thefront andrear
wheels islarge (wheel slip),such aswhen
driving thevehicle onrough roadsthrough
sand ormud orwhen freeing astuck vehicle.
In these cases, theAWD warning lightblinks
rapidly andtheAWD mode changes tothe
2WD mode toprotect thepower trainparts.
If you stop driving withtheengine idlingand
wait until thewarning lightstops blinking,
the AWD returns tothe AWD-V orAWD
mode.
. Brake distance inthe AWD mode isthe
same as2WD.
CAUTION
. Do not start theengine withthe
