X Open th edriver' sdoor.
X Close th efront-pa ssenger door ,the rear

X Chec kwhether th elocking knobs on the
front-passenger door and th erear doors
are still visible. Pres sthe locking knobs
down by han difnecessary.
X Close th edriver' sdoor.
X Take th eemergency key element out of the
key (Y page 97).
X Inser tthe emergency key element int othe
lock of th edriver' sdoor as far as it will go. X
Turn th eemergency key element clockwise
to position 1.
The door is unlocked.

The boot lid/tailgat eisequipped with an
automatic reversing feature. It reacts if asolid
object obstructs or restrict sthe boot lid/tail-
gat edurin gthe closin gprocedure .The boot
lid/tailgat eopen sagain automatically. The
automatic reversing function is only an aid
and is no tasubstitut efor your attentiveness
to th eboot lid/tailgat ewhile it is closing. G
WARNING
The reversing function does no treact:
R to soft, light and thin objects, e.g .small fin-
gers
R over th elast 8mmoft heclosin gpath
This mean sthatthe reversing feature cannot
prevent someon ebeingtrapped in these sit-
uations .Ther eisar isk of injury.
When closin gmakes ure that no body parts

WARNING
When the double locks are activated, the
doors can no longer be opened from the
inside .Peopl eint he vehicle can no longer get
out, e.g. in hazardous situations. There is a
risk of injury.
Therefore ,donot leave any peopl eunsuper-
vised in the vehicle ,particularly children, eld-
erly peopl eorpeopleinn eed of specia lassis-
tance. Do not activate the double lock when
peopl eare in the vehicle.
If the vehicle has been locked from the out-
side, the double lock function is activated as
standard. It is then not possible to open the
doors from inside the vehicle .You can deac-
tivate the double lock function by deactivat-
ing the interior motion sensor (Y page 91).
The doors can then be opened from the inside after the vehicle has been locked from the
outside.
The anti-theft alarm system is triggered if thedoor is opened from the inside .Switch off the
alarm (Y page 89).

WARNING
Parts of the body could become trapped dur-
ing automatic closing of the boot lid or tail- gate. Moreover, people, e.g. children, may be
standing in the closing area or may enter the
closing area during the closing process. There
is ar isk of injury.
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity of the closing area during the closing process.
Use one of the following options to stop the
closing process:
R press the Fbutton on the key
R pullorp ress the remote operating switch
on the driver's door
R press the closing or locking button on the
boot lid/tailgate
R pullt he handle on the boot lid/tailgate
! The boot lid/tailgate swings upwards and
to the rear when opened. Therefore ,make
sure that there is sufficient clearance
above and behind the boot lid/tailgate.

when the engine is started.
R IfaK EYLESS-GO key is withi nthe rear
detection range of KEYLESS-GO ,HANDS-
FREE ACCESS could be triggered .The boot
lid/tailgate could therefore open or close
unintentionally, e.g .ifyou:
- sitd ow nont he edge of the boot/edg eof
the luggage compartment
- set down or lift up an object behind the
vehicle
- polish the rea rofthe vehicle
Do not carry the KEYLESS-GO key about
your perso ninsuchs ituations. Yo ucan
thu savoid unintentionall yopening or clos-
ing the boot lid/tailgate.

too long, the boot lid/tailgate does not
open or close. Repeat the kicking move-
ment more quickl yifthiso ccurs.
Saloon: to cance lthe closing procedure:

R pull the handl eonthe outside of the boot lid
R press the closing button in the boot lid, or
R press the Fbutton on the key
If the closing procedur eofthe boot li dis
cancelled ,the boot li dopens agai nauto-
matically.
Estate: to stop the opening or closing proce-
dure:

tionary and unlocked. Limiting the opening angle of the tail-

openin gangle. The tailgate could otherwise
be damaged. Ideally, set the openin gangle
outside.
Activating You can limit the openin
gangle of the tail-
gate. This is possible in the top half of its
openin grange, up to approximately 20 cm
